BMW Championship 2022, schedule

The tournament, which takes place at the Wilmington Country Club in Wilmington, Delaware, will begin this Thursday, August 18, and will conclude on Sunday, August 21.

The BMW Championship is a men’s golf tournament that takes place in the Midwest of the United States as the third date of the PGA Tour playoffs. The prize pool as of 2011 is 8 million dollars, one of the highest in the circuit.

The origin of the tournament dates back to the Western Open (Open of the West), organized by the Western Golf Association since 1899, which attracted prominent British golfers. It was played mainly on golf courses in the Midwest, although it also took place in California, Utah, Arizona and Tennessee in some editions.

From 1962 it was held only in clubs near Chicago, visiting Butler from 1974 to 1990, and Cog Hill from 1991 to 2006. For the 2007 season, the Western Open became the BMW Championship, and has since been held in September as part of the playoffs.

The list of competitors is restricted to the 70 golfers who lead the standings. Its headquarters have been Cog Hill in four editions, and Bellerive (St. Louis), Crooked Stick (Indianapolis) and Conway Farms (Chicago) once each.

Since 2007, the BMW Championship has been broadcast in the United States on the NBC television network. The BMW Championship (or BMW Championship, formerly known as the Western Open) is a professional golf tournament established in 1899.

It is the third oldest continuously running competition in golf history after the British Open (1860) and the American Open (1895). At the start of 2007, the tournament was renamed the BMW Championship and became part of the FedEx Cup. This tournament is not open to amateurs.
