By Ken Hissner: The Pandemic has postponed a lot of world title matches, but who has risen above that and been the most active of all the world champions?
Among the heavyweight champions, Tyson “The Gypsy King” has one match, while Oleksandr Usyk is having his first this weekend in the Anthony “AJ” Joshua rematch.
Among the cruiserweight, WBC champion Ilunga Junior Makabu, IBF champion Jai Opetaia and Lawrence “The Sauce” Okolie have each made one defense.
Among the light heavyweights, WBA champion Dmitrii Bivol and WBC, WBO, and IBF champion Artur Beterbiev have each made one defense.
Super Middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez has had one fight and one scheduled in September.
IBF and WBA Middleweight champion Gennadiy “GGG” Golovkin has made a unified win and finally, the long-awaited rematch in September with Saul “Canelo” Alvarez.
WBC champion Jermall “Hit Man” Charlo hasn’t fought in over a year. WBO champion Demetrius “Boo Boo” Andrade last defense was in November of 2021. Both talk about moving up in weight but no activity.
WBA, WBC, WBO, and IBF Super Welterweight champion Jermell “Iron Man” Charlo made one defense.
IBF, WBA, and WBC Welterweight champion Errol “The Truth” Spence, Jr. made one defense and hopefully will be in a unification match with WBO champion Terence “Bud” Crawford this fall whole he hasn’t fought since November of 2021.
IBF and WBO Super Lightweight champion Josh “The Tartan Tornado” Taylor gave up the WBC and WBA titles after defending all four in his one match and is looking for a rematch with Jack ‘El Gato’ Catterall, whom he defeated in that one.
WBC Lightweight champion Devin “The Dream” Haney added the WBA, WBO, and IBF titles by defeating George “Ferocious” Kambosos, Jr. in June and is scheduled for their rematch in October.
WBA Lightweight champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis defended his piece of the WBA title once this year.
WBA Super Featherweight champion Roger “The Kid” Gutierrez will be in his first fight this year, defending his title this weekend against Hector “El Androide” Luis Garcia.
WBC and WBO Super Featherweight champion Shakur Stevenson will be having his second defense this year in September against 3-time Olympian Robson “Nino” Conceicao.
IBF Super Featherweight champion Joe Cordina won the title in June, defeating Kenichi Ogawa in his lone fight.
WBC Featherweight champion Rey Vargas won the title in July in his lone bout of the year.
IBF Featherweight champion Josh “The Leeds Warrior” Warrington had one title defense this year.
WBO Featherweight champion Emanuel “Vaquero” Navarrete will be defending his title in his first fight of the year this weekend against Eduardo “El Gemelo” Baez.
WBA and IBF Super Bantamweight champion Murodjon “MJ” Mkhmadeliev had one title defense this year. WBC and WBO Super Bantamweight champion Stephen “Cool Boy Steph” Fulton had one title defense.
WBA, WBC, and IBF Bantamweight champion Naoya “Monster” Inoue made his one defense in June.
WBA and WBC Super Flyweight champion Juan “El Gallo” Francisco Estrada will be having his first bout in a title defense in September against Argi Cortes.
WBC Super Flyweight champion Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez Franco has made two title defenses, with a third scheduled in September against Israel “Jiga” Gonzalez.
IBF Super Flyweight champion Fernando “Pumita” Daniel Martinez had one title defense this year.
WBO Super Flyweight champion Kazuto Ioka had one lone defense.
WBA Flyweight champion Artem Dalakian hasn’t fought since November of 2021.
WBC Flyweight champion Julio “El Rey” Cesar Martinez lost in his lone fight this year in moving up to Super Flyweight.
IBF Flyweight champion Sunny “Showtime” Edwards made his lone defense in March.
WBO Flyweight champion Junto Nakatani made his lone defense in April.
WBA Super Light Flyweight champion Hiroto Kyoguchi made his lone defense in June.
WBC Light Flyweight champion Kenahiro Teraji had his lone defense in March.
WBO Light Flyweight champion Jonathan Gonzalez made his lone defense in June.
WBA Super Minimum champion Thammanoon Niyomtrong made his lone defense in July.
WBC Minimum champion Panya Pradabsri made his lone defense in March and is scheduled end of August to defend against Norihito Tanaka.
IBF Minimum champion Daniel “Cejitas” Valladares won his title in July in his lone bout.
WBO Minimum champion Masataka Taniguchi made his lone defense in April.
