‘Banning Novak Djokovic from entering certain countries is…’, says physician

Novak Djokovic’s participation in the US Open 2022 is still uncertain. A few days ago, the CDC equated vaccinated and unvaccinated in terms of internal treatment, but the rules at the border have not been changed for the time being.

The former world number 1 has experienced a turbulent season due to his choice not to get vaccinated against the Coronavirus. In addition to not having been able to defend the title at the Australian Open at the beginning of the year, the Serbian champion had ended up at the center of an absurd soap opera.

For the same reason, the 35-year-old from Belgrade also had to miss the Masters 1000 in Indian Wells and Miami in the spring. Nole lifted a very disappointing season by triumphing at Wimbledon for the seventh time in his career and equaling Pete Sampras.

The ‘Djoker’ has thus hoisted himself to 21 Majors, taking him to just one distance behind Rafael Nadal in the all-time ranking. Through his Twitter profile, the well-known British oncologist Karol Sikora broke a spear in favor of Djokovic.

Sikora on Nole Djokovic

The newest member to show support for the 21-time Grand Slam champion is British physician and oncologist Karol Sikora. According to him, it’s Novak Djokovic’s choice whether he wants to get the vaccine or not.

Sikora suggests that banning players for not getting an inefficient vaccine is “wrong.” “Novak Djokovic made a decision not to get vaccinated – his choice. Sadly, we know that the vaccine doesn’t prevent the virus from spreading in any significant way.

Banning him, and others, from entering certain countries based on that decision is wrong. I hope that he plays,” Sikora tweeted. According to recent news, the US government will loosen up a few restrictions regarding quarantine and maintaining social distance.

This could be great news for Novak Djokovic and his chances of playing at the US Open at the end of this month. Now, Djokovic has to play the waiting game to see if there’s a rule change regarding his participation. Earlier, he posted a video on his Instagram, where he was practicing hard on the tennis court.

Also, he wrote an optimistic message in the caption, about not giving up on his dream of playing at this year’s US Open. On the other hand, even if Djokovic plays in the US Open, he still lacks match practice, as he won’t play any singles matches before the tournament.
