Felix Auger-Aliassime took a moment to show his grattitude to the Montreal community and added he is looking forward to returning to his hometown in two years. Auger-Aliassime, who was born in Montreal, reached the Montreal Masters quarterfinal last week.

Auger-Aliassime was hoping to have a dream week in Montreal and capture his first Masters title there. Unfortunately for Auger-Aliassime, he didn’t have a fairytale run as he exited the event following a 6-1 6-2 quarterfinal loss to Casper Ruud.

The National Bank Open is held one year in Montreal and the other in Toronto. “Thank you, Montreal. I experienced a whole range of intense emotions this week. And that’s the beauty of playing at home in front of the Quebec public.

Even if the victory was not there yesterday, I will keep good memories of this last week because I know that is is only a postponement. Thank you all again for your unconditional support. I can’t wait to see you again in two years.

Until then, the adventure continues,” Auger-Aliassime said in a message posted on his Twitter.

Auger-Aliassime was visibly disappointed after a Montreal exit

Auger-Aliassime clinched two straight-set wins in his opening two matches in Montreal.

Then, he suffered a brutal loss to Ruud in the quarterfinal. After the match, Auger-Aliassime admitted it was a disappointing end to his Montreal run but vowed to learn from the defeat. “Every time I try to learn from every match, win or lose,” he said.

“I will see what I can learn from this match today. The important thing is to know how I will be able to bounce back next week. I’m still giving myself some time in the next days to unwind and start working again. This is not usual for me, after playing two good matches, to lose the way I did today, especially at a tournament like this one.”

Auger-Aliassime is now the seventh-seeded player at this week’s Cincinnati Masters and he has a first round bye at the tournament.
