A leader is separating from the pack in the NASCAR Cup Series standings.
Kyle Larson enters Sunday’s Federated Auto Parts 400 on pole position, while current points leader Chase Elliott starts from 23rd. Elliott, though, holds a somewhat commanding lead over the field, with 847 points entering today’s race: His four wins and eight top-five finishes have helped push him above second place, where Ryan Blaney (728 points) currently sits.
Larson, currently in fifth place, has some short history on the short track at Richmond. Earlier in the year, he finished fifth in the 2022 Toyota Owners 400 at the Richmond, and he finished sixth in the 2021 edition of the Federated Auto Parts 400. That history could bode well for another top finish, to keep him in the championship hunt.

Rick Allen will reprise his role as lap-by-lap broadcaster, while Cup Series veterans Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Jeff Burton will offer occasional musings from the booth. They’ll be joined by Daytona 500-winning crew chief Steve Letarte to round off the coverage.

Starting lineup for Richmond race
Larson has a decent record at Richmond Raceway, with seven top-10 finishes in his career at the 0.75-mile track, including a victory in 2017.
Larson finished fifth in last year’s race, a solid showing considering he started 21st.
