Citi Open—Washington, DC, U.S.A.

Australian Nick Kyrgios captured his second career Citi Open title in Washington, D.C. on Sunday, defeating speed Japanese star Yoshihito Nishioka 64, 6-3

Needing one hour and 21 minutes to seal his victory, Kyrgios struck 12 aces, won 88 percent of his first serve points and broke serve on three occasions.

Recently reaching the Wimbledon final in a losing effort to Novak Djokovic, Kyrgios last won a title in Washington in 2019.

Improving to 4-0 against Nishioka in lifetime meetings, Kyrgios will be ranked No. 37 on Monday. The fan-favourite will next see action at the National Bank Open in Montreal.

Nishioka, who was aiming to win his second career title, dismissed top seed Andrey Rublev, Karen Khachanov, and recent Atlanta winner Alex de Minaur earlier in the event.

Nishioka will be ranked No. 54 in the world when the latest world rankings are released.
