Liverpool transfer round-up: Brozovic on radar as young prospect leaves on loan

Liverpool got their business done early and, although Jurgen Klopp hinted at some more deals, it seems like the majority of the ins and outs are done.

The Reds have bought in Darwin Nunez for a club-record fee whilst Fabio Carvalho and Calvin Ramsay are also new faces at Anfield. Sadio Mane has been the notable departure whilst the likes of Divock Origi have also left.

Klopp is dealing with injuries to certain personnel and that is behind his potential desire to dip back into the market. He said: “We cannot solve a problem we have for four weeks with a transfer for a full year. That makes at the moment no sense to us. But the transfer window is still open and we will see. But the plans are not to go in that direction.”

Here are the latest rumours from Merseyside.

Clarkson leaves on loan

Leighton Clarkson has headed out on loan for the season, joining Scottish Premiership side Aberdeen.

The 20-year-old has come through the Liverpool academy but has only made three appearance for the first team, such is their competition for places, with his debut coming in the Champions League against FC Midtjylland in December 2020.

Clarkson was on loan at Blackburn Rovers last term and has gone out temporarily once again to further his experience. Aberdeen boos Jim Goodwin said: “We’re very grateful to Liverpool for their assistance in making this loan possible and hope they will see Aberdeen as a suitable club for some of their young prospects to continue their development in the future.”

Brozovic on radar

Liverpool are among the clubs ‘keeping tabs’ on Inter Milan midfielder Marcelo Brozovic, according to reports in Italy.

CalcioMercato understands that the Reds are prepared to offer a swap dealing involving either Roberto Firminio or Naby Keita as they look to lure the 29-year-old to Anfield. The Croatian signed a new deal at the San Siro earlier this year, tying him down until 2026.

It means Inter are in no need to sell and have made that clear, despite the mounting interest. Barcelona, Manchester United and Tottenham are also among those keen.

Reina backs Nunez-Mane moves

Reds legend Pepe Reina believes the departure of Sadio Mane and the arrival of Darwin Nunez is a good move for his former club.

The Senegal star left and was replaced by the club-record signing, who Reina has backed to offer a different dimension.

“Darwin and Mane are two great players of a certain stature,” he told The Sun. “Let’s find out what Darwin can bring to the squad with the help of his teammates, but this swap makes sense and it can be a great thing for the club.

“Liverpool have a great variety of players but they needed someone who can hold up the ball and play one-two passes. And thanks to Darwin they are perfect in attack.”
