Rising American Maxime Cressy is not lacking any confidence in himself as he believes he has what it takes to be ranked at the top spot on the ATP rankings list. Cressy, 25, lifted his first ATP title last week in Newport and now he is enjoying a career-high ranking of number 33 in the world.

Cressy has improving his ranking since the start of the season as he broke into the top-100 for the first time in January. Cressy is happy about his new career-high ranking but he is not satisfied yet as he believes he can be enjoying a far better ranking.

“Regardless of the ups and downs, my ranking has just skyrocketed really fast in the past two years,” Cressy told the ATP website. “Considering all the failures that I’ve had, it’s been kind of crazy, because I definitely feel like I’ve fallen down a lot.

But I rose back up quickly, I never gave up and I stayed resilient. Being just outside the Top 30 that quickly is a huge indication [to me] that I have what it takes to be world number one. I don’t think that belief is ever going to change”.

Cressy won his first ATP title in Newport

In the Newport final, home favorite Cressy edged out Alexander Bublik 2-6 6-3 7-6 (3). Cressy found himself in an uncomfortable spot after Bublik took a 6-2 3-0 lead but the American was able to recover and win the title.

“It’s an incredible feeling to win my first title, I never thought I would win it this way,” Cressy said after winning the title. “I played my first ATP tournament here, and it’s always an incredible atmosphere.

There were a lot of ups and downs today but I’m very proud of myself for fighting through it.” Cressy is not playing this week as he is expected to return to action during the upcoming North American hard court swing.
