Indian football state associations have reportedly claimed that they had no other option but to seek the intervention of the Supreme Court after the Committee of Administrators (CoA) ignored their objections while preparing the All India Football Federation’s (AIFF) final draft constitution.
35 state associations, who have also raised over 20 objections to the draft, lodged an ‘intervention application’ with the apex court, also informing world governing body FIFA of their grievances. What has further strengthened their claim is that the marketing partners of AIFF, Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL) too have filed a lawsuit with the Supreme Court.
The state FAs will get a good result from the Supreme Court. It is my firm belief. I hope football continues in our country … a few people cannot change its course,” a state official told News9.

“The Supreme Court has its own way of functioning. But we believe in the judiciary system. On hearing our intervention, I am hopeful the court will be convinced by our reasoning. We feel we will be protected by the Supreme Court. And we are hopeful that the Court will help Indian football avoid a ban,” another state official said.
There are a number of clauses which the state associations are not happy about and it will be interesting to see how this is resolved, considering that India are potentially facing a ban from FIFA if this issue is not sorted out soon.
