Russia’s Daria Kasatkina calls for peace, answers whether she’s been affected by war

Russian tennis star Daria Kasatkina reveals she hasn’t been affected by the war but admits her only wish is to see the war end. On February 24, Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Nearly five full months have passed and it doesn’t seem like the war will be ending anytime soon.

“For the war to end. There hasn’t been a single day since February 24 (when Russia invaded Ukraine) that I haven’t read some news or haven’t thought of for the day to pass by,” Kasatkina said during a conversation with blogger Vitya Kravchenko.

Kasatkina wasn’t allowed to compete at Wimbledon only because of her nationality but noted that’s nothing compared to what some others have been going through because of the war. “Really I have no connection with it (the war).

I haven’t been affected, thank God, barely minimum, Wimbledon and all that. But people who have relatives in Ukraine, especially when you start talking about Russia. I can’t imagine what they are going through. It’s full-blown nightmare.

Without a thought, I would do anything I can (to end it), but unfortunately (I can’t).”

Kasatkina comes out as gay

During the same conversation, Kasatkina came out as gay and revealed she has a girlfriend. “Yes, [I currently have a girlfriend],” Kasatkina admitted.

Kasatkina is 25 and she is at peace after coming out as gay. “Living in the closet is impossible. Not for the long run, no. It is too hard. It is pointless, you will be completely focused on that until you choose to come out.

Of course, it is up to you to decide how to do it and how much you tell,” Kasatkina said. “Living in peace with yourself is the only thing that matters, and f— everyone else.” Meanwhile, Kasatkina suffered a surprise three-set defeat to Katerina Siniakova in the first round of this week’s WTA clay event in Hamburg.
