For all golf aficionados it is the Open Championship: the 150th edition of a tournament that has made history, which is now the last Major of the year and which, in this occasion, he returns to the Temple par excellence, that of the Old Course of St.

Andrews.

The Open, schedule

The amount of opponents that Collin Morikawa will have to beat to reconfirm himself as champion will be immense, especially in the most iconic place that golf has ever known. There will be the return of Tiger Woods, who has won twice on this path; his ambitions for victory are scarce, while those of giving emotions to the present public are important.

Italy will be represented by three men. There is Francesco Molinari, who made the history of our country in Carnoustie in 2018, there is Guido Migliozzi and there is also Filippo Celli, winner of the European Amateur. The 2022 Open Championship will be held Thursday through Sunday in St.

Andrews. THE OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP 2022: PROGRAM
THURSDAY 14 JULY
7:30 am – First lap FRIDAY 15 JULY
7:30 am – Second round SATURDAY 16 JULY
9:00 am – Third lap SUNDAY 17 JULY
9:00 am – Fourth round The Claret Jug, whose official name is Golf Champion Trophy, is the silver cup that is awarded to the winner of the Open Championship, and on the base of which are engraved the names of all the winners of the previous editions and of that current.

The award presented to the winner of the first editions, until 1872, was the Challenge Belt, a Moroccan leather belt adorned with a silver buckle and various emblems; the belt had to be returned by the reigning champion at the next edition of the tournament, but if a player had won it three consecutive times, he would have become the owner: this happened when, in 1870, Tom Morris Jr.

won his third Consecutive Open. In 1872 it was decided to abandon the belt in favor of a new trophy, the current Golf Champion Trophy, which was awarded starting from the 1873 edition and which had to be returned in view of the next edition of the tournament; it was also decided that the winner of each edition, starting as early as that of 1872, would receive a medal, the Gold Medal, which he would keep forever and the cost of which would be deducted from his cash prize.

As of the 1928 edition, Open winners receive only one copy of the Claret Jug, while the original is kept at the Royal and Ancient Golf Club.
