Kerala Blasters FC make Apostolos Giannou their first foreign signing of the summer

Indian Super League (ISL) side, Kerala Blasters FC have confirmed the signing of Greek-Australian International striker, Apostolos Giannou from A-League Club Macarthur FC, with the striker penning a one-year deal with the club.

Giannou, who becomes Kerala Blasters first foreign signing ahead of the upcoming ISL season was born in Greece but moved to Australia at a young age and played for youth teams at the Victorian Institute of Sport and South Melbourne, before making his professional debut with the Oakleigh Cannons.

The 32-year-old is most famous for his stint Chinese Club Guangzhou City FC – who he joined for a record transfer fee in 2016. After 2 prolific seasons in Asia, Giannou signed for Cyprus side AEK Larnaca and later moved to OFI Crete FC in Greece. Before signing with the Blasters, Giannou signed with A-League side Macarthur FC where he made 21 appearances and scored 3 goals for the club.

The striker has also represented Australia at the international stage, making 12 appearances for the Socceroos, while also playing one game for the Greek national team.
