Joe Joyce thinks he’ll KO Deontay Wilder

By Charles Brun: Joe Joyce believes he can knock out former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder after his lastest stoppage win over journeyman Christian Hammer last Saturday night in London, England.

Joyce’s fourth-round knockout win over the 34-year-old second-tier fighter Hammer (27-10, 17 KOs) has him believing he’ll KO Wilder. He also thinks he’s ready for WBC champion Tyson Fury, Oleksandr Usyk & Anthony Joshua.

If the Wilder-Joyce fight comes off, boxing fans will make a mountain of money betting on Wilder because he’s got the perfect opponent to knock cold.

If you were to create the ideal opponent in a laboratory for Wilder to destroy with one of his big right hands, Joyce would be the guy you came up with.

It’ll be interesting if Wilder (42-2-1, 41 KOs) calls Joyce’s bluff and accepts his challenge because this guy is there to be hit by him.

Joyce looked like a wooden version of Dominic Breazeale last Saturday night with his win over Hammer, who was recently beaten by Frank Sanchez, Hughie Fury, Tony Yoka & Luis Ortiz.

Joyce’s promoter has done him no favors by matching him against nothing but cannon fodder his entire career because it’s planted ideas into his head that he can actually fight.

“Wilder’s an amazing finisher, yeah. But that’s a fight there, too, as well,” said Joe Joyce to Fight Hub TV. “Like, you could see what Fury did to him in the second fight; I could probably do something like that and ‘Juggernaut’ him like that. But yeah, you always have to watch out for the equalizer.”

This is what happens when you get a promoter that feeds a fighter nothing but stiffs. They start believing they can walk on water and have delusions of grandeur.

Joyce’s opposition has been so utterly bad since he turned professional, and it’s hard not to see this guy as a product of hype.

Joe Joyce’s best opponents as a pro:

  • Christian Hammer – 34
  • Bryant Jennings – 37
  • Carlos Takam – 41
  • Alexander Ustinov – 45
  • Daniel Dubois
  • Joe Hands – 39
  • Bermane Stiverne – 43

It would be fun to see what Wilder could do to Joyce. Would Joyce’s stiff chin be able to handle Deontay’s right hand without him crumbling?

“Well, everyone’s talking about Wilder now. I mean not Wilder, freakin’ (Dillian) Whyte. Dillian Whyte, if he wants it,” said Joyce.

Whyte would be an exciting fight for Joyce if it could be made, but that’s not likely to happen. If Joyce’s promoter wants to give Whyte a crazy offer, he might do it, but I can’t see that happening.
