Jannik Sinner suffered a devastating Wimbledon defeat to Novak Djokovic and after the match he knew exactly what was the moment when everything changed on the court. Sinner competed extremely well against Novak Djokovic but the six-time Wimbledon champion recovered from two sets down to beat the Italian 5-7 2-6 6-3 6-2 6-2.

After going up by two sets on Djokovic, Sinner failed to sustain the same level of play at the start of the third set and that’s when he felt everything changed. Djokovic broke Sinner to love in the fourth game of the third set to open a 3-1 lead and then held on to his serve the rest of the set to send the match into a fourth set.

Then, Djokovic broke Sinner twice in each of the next two sets to complete a big five-set comeback. “In the third set, when I was serving and was Love-15, I hit an easy forehand in the net, Love-30. Then after he played a good point.

Instead of being 15-30 I was Love-40, and then he broke me. From that point he was playing better,” Sinner said, per Giorgio Spalluto.

Sinner on his injury

Late in the fourth set, Sinner slipped on the grass and it looked scary for a moment.

Fortunately, Sinner was able to get up on his own and a major injury was avoided. Sinner was fortunate to avoid a serious injury but he couldn’t find an answer for Djokovic, who was firing from all cylinders. Reflecting on the scary moment, Sinner said he knew after a few points that he was okay.

“I twisted my ankle, the left one. In the beginning I felt pain. I was a bit scared in that point, but after, when I made the first steps, I felt it was okay. Then I was a little bit careful the first two points. The most important thing: my body feels good,” Sinner explained.
