Top seed Daria Kasatkina booked a place in the quarter-finals of the Bad Homburg Open on Tuesday. Kasatkina came through against Jule Niemeier 6-1, 3-6, 6-1 in an hour and 43 minutes. Kasatkina’s level dipped in the second set and it was the only set in which she lost her serve.

The set saw both players exchange breaks twice before the German wildcard broke Kasatkina’s serve for the third time to level the match. In the deciding set, Kasatkina saved all six break points she faced while breaking Niemeier’s serve twice to take the win.

Not much separated the two players in terms of first-serve points won – Kasatkina won 64% to Niemeier’s 63.9%. But where the higher-ranked player won 48% of her second-serve points, Niemeier finished with 32%.
