The Colorado Rapids have brought back Scottish player Sam Nicholson.
The winger returns as a free agent, on a two-and-a-half-year contract with an additional option year after previously spending three seasons with the club from 2018 to 2020.
“We’re delighted to welcome Sam back to the club,” Pádraig Smith, Colorado’s executive vice president and general manager, said in a release.
“Sam is an incredibly talented and versatile attacker with exceptional pace and someone our team and coaching staff are very familiar with from his time with the club.
“We’re excited to welcome him back at this key juncture in the season and look forward to seeing him continue his career in Burgundy.”
Nicholson makes his move back to Major League Soccer after featuring for the Bristol Rovers in England’s fourth tier for the last two seasons, where he managed 14 goals and eight assists in 75 appearances across all competitions.
During his previous stint with Colorado, the winger managed four goals and six assists in 48 appearances. His addition comes as a necessary boost for the Rapids, as they dwindle in 10th with 18 points in 14 games and a record of 5W-3D-6L.
After a brief break during the June international window, the Rapids return to action on Sunday against Eastern Conference leaders and reigning MLS champions New York City FC.
It might not be an easy task for the Western side, but the Rapids must quickly turn around their season to work towards a playoff spot.
