Iga Swiatek has given her wide availability to a wonderful initiative to help Ukraine, still grappling with the war against Russia: the idea comes from the United 24 foundation, whose ambassadors are tennis player Elina Svitolina and footballer Andriy Shevchenko.
Her solidarity with the Ukrainian people was repeated several times, including during the award ceremony at the Roland Garros 2022. Now the next step she wants to take is to take the court for the country, in a charity exhibition match.
According to current rumors of the event, the number one in the WTA world ranking will challenge the former Slam finalist Agnieszka Radwanska, who retired last 2018, in an exhibition match. The Pole got a final at Wimbledon, two semifinals at the Australian Open and the second place in the WTA Ranking.
According to Eurosport, the match will take place on June 23 in Krakow, although Swiatek’s communication team has stated that all plans for this project have not yet been completed, latest details and news expected in the coming days.
Wimbledon is the next goal
The winner of six consecutive titles on the WTA Tour announced in the past few hours through her Twitter account that she has been canceled from the WTA 500 in Berlin: “Due to a recurring pain that I have felt in my shoulder for days, unfortunately I have to inform you of the forfeit from the German tournament.
I’m sorry I can’t play there. I will focus on recovery and rest, with the aim of being ready for Wimbledon.” The next goal will therefore be the third Grand Slam of the season: “When it starts, I will concentrate only on overcoming the first few games.
I’m not going to think about the winning streak, it doesn’t help me. Now I have more time for myself and I want to rest as much as possible. I don’t want to force myself to be motivated, I want to relax and not think about competition.
My head has had enough, because I have been thinking about the competition so many days that now I have to stop for a while.”
