Thomas Tuchel promised full control of transfers by Chelsea

An insight into how Chelsea will buy and sell players under their new ownership has been provided on Tuesday.

As 101 have previously covered, new owner Todd Boehly is ready to hand Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel £200m to spend this summer after his takeover was finally sealed by the Government, the Premier League and Europe.

Now, the Telegraph have reported that Boehly has promised Tuchel that he can take the lead on Chelsea’s transfer business in a shift designed to move closer to the Manchester City and Liverpool models.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has previously shipped out big names such as Joe Hart and Yaya Toure, whilst Jurgen Klopp was allowed to sell Christian Benteke just a year after Liverpool spent over £30m on him.

And if we are to see similar moves being made by Tuchel, that could also well spell the end of Romelu Lukaku’s second, very disappointing stint at Chelsea.

Previously, Chelsea have worked with Tuchel and his predecessors to identify and pursue mutually beneficial targets with the club having a greater say over sales.

Now though, the focus this summer is expected to be on delivering Tuchel’s recommendations, with Boehly himself involved in transfer discussions:

As for director Marina Granovskaia, who had previously had a big say on transfer dealings at the Bridge, the Telegraph report that her long-term future is up in the air amid suggestions that Atletico Madrid’s sporting director Andrea Berta could be of interest to Chelsea’s new owners.
