Pam Shriver predicts Cori Gauff

American tennis legend Pam Shriver thinks Cori Gauff is here to stay and she will be a great player for many years in the future. Gauff, who turned 18 this past March, is one of the most talented players on the WTA Tour and she reached her maiden Grand Slam final at Roland Garros.

“Her slow and steady progression and the team that she has around her,” Shriver said, per Tennishead. “I do think she has the goods to stick around at the top, and to embrace these big moments”. In her maiden Grand Slam semifinal, Gauff was near flawless as she ousted Martina Trevisan 6-3 6-1.

“Look how she handled her first Major semi-final,” Shriver added. “Ok it was Martina Trevisan. But let me tell you, [she] is a hell of a player on a clay court. There were some moments in that straight sets match that tested Coco, and she stepped up.

I just think this is going to make her believe even more”.

Shriver: Gauff and Iga Swiatek could form the best rivalry

In the French Open final, Gauff took on top-ranked Swiatek. Unfortunately for Gauff, she didn’t impress in her maiden Grand Slam final as Swiatek claimed a 6-1 6-3 win.

Speaking about the future of the women’s game, Shriver thinks Gauff and Swiatek could form the next big-time rivalry. “I definitely think this is the best chance at the best rivalry for the next year or two,” Shriver said of Gauff and Swiatek.

“But I think there will be others that will bloom before our eyes”. After reaching the French Open final, Gauff said it was her dream to play Swiatek in a Grand Slam final. “I’m really happy to play her specifically, because I always wanted to play her in a final, and I knew it was going to happen eventually, even in juniors that it was going to happen, just from the way our games were both projecting. I just didn’t think it would happen so soon,” Gauff told WTA insider.
