Unusual off-schedule for Lorenzo Gagli, engaged in Germany in the first round of the Porsche European Open, a tournament of the DP World Tour. The Florentine was disqualified for a lightness achieved by his caddy.

Lorenzo Gagli, history

The caddy has in fact used a greenbook (ie the specific green mapping) that is outdated and with more information and details than those allowed by 2022.

Authorized greenbooks can only show significant levels, slopes and edges. On the competitive side, he certainly did not disappoint in the first round of the Porsche European Open. In the lead, with 67 (-5) shots, are the Swedish Lagergren and the Chinese Li.

Behind them, third with 68 (-4), is the Dutch Wil Besseling. But in Hamburg, at the Green Eagle Golf Courses (par 72), there is also the performance of Andrea Pavan. The Italian is fourth with 69 (-3) alongside six other players.

Four birdies and a bogey for the Roman, the best of the seven blues in the race. Lorenzo Gagli was born in Bagno a Ripoli (FI) on October 14, 1985, he grew up golfing at the Circolo Golf Ugolino in Florence. As an amateur he defends the blue colors for many years and is part of the boys team that prevails in the 2003 European Championship.

He wins the Juniores tricolor (2006) and medal amateurs (2006). He turned pro at the end of 2006 after trying the European Tour Qualifying School route, stopping at Stage 1. In 2019 he inaugurates the ‘card’ for the European Tour by participating in the races that kick off the season ahead of the calendar year, so at the end of 2018.

After a good 20th place in the Hong Kong Open, he then finds three cuts. It is the foretaste of a fluctuating season that peaks in the excellent second place at the Omega European Masters in September after the playoffs. A bitter taste remains in his mouth, but the excellent performance guarantees him to keep the ‘card’ for 2020.

The other placings: 14th Scottish Open, 27th Indian Open, 32nd Open de France, 40th Scandinavian Invitation, 44th Saudi International, 47th Belgian Knockout, 55th Irish Open, 69th Andalucia Masters, 75th British Masters, Between November and December disputes the first two races on the 2020 circuit, finishing 26th in the Mauritius Open and 42nd in the Alfred Dunhill Championship.

He takes part in the National Open Championship with eighth position. Orders of merit: Race to Dubai (Eurotour): 104th with 494.3 points: Italian: 8th with 341.822.86 points. World Ranking at the end of the year: 370th. The Tuscan’s departure in the 2020 season was beautiful, but while he is in full growth in condition, after having obtained 10th place in the Oman Open and 12th in the Qatar Masters, here is the interruption due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Previously he was ranked 26th in the Mauritius Open, 42nd in the Alfred Dunhill Championship, 43rd in the Dubai Desert Classic and 56th in the Saudi International with just one cut in the Abu Dhabi Championship.
