Four years after the last time and after a news story Thorbjorn Olesen returns to success and wins the British Masters. This is also an important race for the Italians: in 2020 Renato Paratore won in what remains the last Italian victory on the European circuit to date.

The Dane at Sutton Coldfield, with a total of 278 (66 70 69 73, -10) strokes, celebrates his sixth title on the DP World Tour thanks to a great race finale. Leading the way in the first and third rounds, Thorbjorn Olesen started the fourth with a bogey on the first hole.

Then he found a birdie on the third. Then, he lost ground again with four other bogeys. But when everything seemed over, Olesen found the strength to react by marking an eagle at 17 and a birdie at 18. For the 32-year-old from Fureso it is the end of a nightmare.

After a 2018 to remember, with the success at the Italian Open and the triumph in the Ryder Cup in Paris, Olesen had to deal with very heavy suspicions. Accused of assault against a woman on a flight from Nashville to London, he was found not guilty by Aldersgate House Nightingale Court in December 2021.

For a long time without sponsors, also suspended from the DP World Tour, which fell practically from grace, Thorbjorn Olesen can turn pages with his success at the British Masters. On the course of The Belfry (par 72), he overtook the Swede Sebastian Soderberg, second with 279 (-9).

He then in front of the Scots Connor Syme and Richie Ramsay, third (280, -8) like the South African Justin Walters. He did not go beyond 36th place with 286 (68 74 72 72, -2), Edoardo Molinari. The Turinese, in the last round, finished in 72 (par), with two birdies and as many bogeys.

Jacob Thorbjørn Olesen is a Danish professional golfer who plays on the European Tour, where he has won six times including the 2016 Turkish Airlines Open and the 2018 Italian Open. He has also won two important pairs events, representing Denmark, the 2016 World Cup of Golf with Søren Kjeldsen and the 2017 GolfSixes with Lucas Bjerregaard.
