RC Lens received OM on the 22nd day of Ligue 1. The Marseillais, third at kick-off, had the opportunity to become runner-up to PSG again and therefore pass Nice. And the start of the game clearly confirmed the good intentions of Olympians. The first opportunity at the start of the match was for Seko Fofana and RC Lens. But the Ivorian midfielder saw Saliba intervene magnificently twice (5th). Subsequently, Jorge Sampaoli’s men played their football with impressive mastery. Valentin Rongier did not go far from the goal, but his shot on the bar then touched the post after a rebound on the head of Farinez (28th). By dint of pushing, OM ended up opening the scoring. After a penalty obtained by Guendouzi, Dimitri Payet undertook to shoot it without shaking (1-0, 34th).

A goal which had the merit of immediately reacting to the Lensois. Launched in depth, Florian Sotoca appeared alone against Pau Lopez but saw his shot being repelled by the Spanish goalkeeper (37th). In the second half, the Sang et Or pushed to get back into the game, but they always came up against either a good Marseille defense or a Pau Lopez who was still very vigilant on his line (64th, 79th). And OM ended up taking the break thanks to… Bakambu. The last Marseille recruit only needed one ball to find the net a few seconds after coming into play (2-0, 77th). At the end of one of their best games this season, OM offered themselves a precious victory (the fifth in a row away from home). The Olympians take second place in the standings and are ahead of Nice by one point. Lens is in 7th place.
