Sports Infrastructure Development Consultant, Remi Olukoya has described the newly renovated Elegbata Stadium Complex in Lagos Island as a boost to the profile of Lagos State as sports capital of Nigeria and destination for global tourism in Africa.

The complex renovated by the Axxela Group was commissioned last week by the Lagos State government through the state sports commission.

A leading consultant at Pecksgrey Group stated that the facility has a measure of proper maintenance put in place, adding that the gesture by Axxela signifies possibilities that abound between public and private partnership.

“We are so much happy that we are part of the success story. Gaslink, a subsidiary of Axxela Group engaged our firm for complete redevelopment of the Elegbata Sports ground. The sports field was in a state of comatose and there was need for us to redesign and make it a bigger pitch.

“The changing rooms as well other facilities were renovated and upgraded. There is also a section of this playground that is meant for future development. In all of these, we’ve been able to implement in line with the plans and every stakeholders are very much happy and excited,” Olukoya said.

Olukoya, who stated that the facility would attract social and economic growth, urged the newly elected Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwa-Olu to build more of such facilities in the state.

“We cannot but look forward to partner with the private sector and the state government to do more of this.

“I want to give kudos to the Lagos State government under the leadership of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, who will be handing over to the incoming government of Babajide Sanwo-Olu. We hope that this kind of development will continue in our society,” he stated.
