President-elect John Dramani Mahama has pledged to rectify the shortcomings of the outgoing Akufo-Addo administration and steer Ghana towards transparency and fiscal discipline.

In his New Year address for 2025, Mahama emphasized his commitment to tackling corruption and curbing excessive government spending. He assured Ghanaians of his resolve to restore integrity and effectiveness in governance.

As Ghanaians prepare for his swearing-in on January 7, Mahama’s assurances have sparked hope for reforms and a renewed focus on addressing the nation’s challenges.

“We will work tirelessly to correct the outgoing administration’s many wrongs, tackle corruption with dogged determination, and reduce excessive government expenditures. Each citizen’s voice will be heard, and together, we will build a Ghana that reflects our collective hopes and dreams—the Ghana we all want and voted convincingly for.

“Together, let us embrace positivity and hope. Let us stand united in the belief that we can reset our economy, restore dignity and integrity and renew our collective commitment to building the Ghana we want—a Ghana of opportunities, equity, and shared success.”

The President-elect reaffirmed his commitment to establishing a streamlined and effective government that is attuned to the aspirations of Ghanaians.

He underscored his administration’s dedication to accountability and inclusivity, aiming to create a governance framework that embodies the collective hopes and ambitions of all citizens.

He pledged to support and empower businesses.

“To business owners and entrepreneurs, I want to assure you that my administration will support your efforts to create jobs and wealth. We are committed to removing barriers, simplifying processes, and providing the necessary resources to empower you to build and expand your businesses.”

Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Samuel Aboabire, has praised the performance of Black Stars head coach Otto Addo. Since his return, Addo has faced multiple criticisms over Ghana’s poor performances.

For the first time in two decades, Ghana failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). Despite this, Aboabire holds a different opinion, believing the former Borussia Dortmund assistant coach has worked his magic to improve the team’s overall play.

In an interview with Onua TV, the Executive Council member stated that the Ghana team’s main issue is their inability to score goals.

“Otto Addo is doing well as the Black Stars coach; it’s just that goal-scoring has been the team’s problem,” he told Onua TV.

In March 2024, the GFA announced the appointment of Otto Addo as the head coach of the Black Stars, marking his second coming as head coach of Ghana.

He was tasked to lead Ghana to the 2025 AFCON and the 2026 World Cup. However, Ghana managed only three points during the 2025 AFCON qualifiers, drawing three matches and losing three. They finished at the bottom of their group, marking a disappointing campaign.

Kpohega (VR,) Jan 1, GNA-The Chiefs and people of Kpohega in the Akatsi South Municipality of the Volta Region have celebrated their 45th ‘Norvisileza’ festival to foster development of the community.  

The festival, a significant cultural event, was marked with series of traditional dances, music, and rituals to climax the celebration.   

It began with a grand procession through the streets of Kpohega, led by the chiefs and elders, which was followed by a traditional dance performance by the community’s youth group.  

Togbi Agordor III, Dufia of Kpohega, expressed gratitude to the people for the hard work and dedication to preserving the cultural heritage of the area.  

“This festival is a celebration of our rich cultural heritage and the resilience of our people, I am proud to see our community come together to showcase our traditions and customs once again to inculcate this into the younger generation,” he said.  

Torgbi Agordor said the festival displayed the traditional crafts and artifacts, including beautifully woven baskets, intricately carved wooden masks, and colorful textiles and other cultural troupes.  

The celebration of the ‘Kpohega Norvisileza’ festival was a testament to the community’s commitment to preserving their cultural heritage, he said.  

Mr Samuel Adzorlolo, who chaired the function, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said festivals were celebrated to give communities the development projects needed to uplift their living standards.  

He charged the youth and elders to be united to address pressing challenges, which include renovation of the basic school building, provision of electricity, water, and rehabilitation of the poor road network.  

Mr Adzorlolo appealed to philanthropists, individuals, companies and the government to assist in addressing the challenges to alleviate the plight of the people.  

The festival was on the theme: “Unity and Strength -The role of citizens in community building and development.”

Takoradi, Jan. 1, GNA — Mr Joseph Bentum, the Presiding Elder of the Church of Pentecost, Salem Assembly, Takoradi, has asked Christians to hold unto their faith in God because He has better plans for them in the new year.  

“It is a brand-new year, and we may encounter all manner of challenges, but God will be with us and fight for us,” he said. 

In his 31^st December sermon, titled: “Immanuel, God With Us”, Elder Bentum assured the congregation of God’s presence in their lives throughout the new year.  

“If you believe that God is with you, you have no reason to fear anything that may come your way in 2025, because He has given us the assurance that He will always be with us even in times of troubles,” he added.  

“The God of Joseph is our fortress. There may be turbulence and trying times, situations that may weigh you down but our God who is with us, will make a way.” 

Elder Bentum asked Christians to pray and seek God’s help in difficult situations, and trust in Him to deliver unto them all their heart desires.  

“The Bible says by strength no man shall prevail, except only trusting in the Lord. Lean not on your own understanding and strength, and walk in the light of his word as children of the Lord.”  

“Be open and obey his direction, and He will take us to our desired end in 2025 because He knows the end from the beginning.” 

The watch night service was spiced with songs of thanksgivings, praises and worship to the Lord for a successful 2024 and the opportunity to witness the new year.
