The Women’s Caucus of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 8th Parliament is advocating for the continuation of Patricia Appiagyei’s leadership role in the 9th Parliament.
According to Ghana Web on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, The call was made by Lydia Seyram Alhassan, the Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West, who praised Appiagyei’s contributions to maintaining unity within the party during the tumultuous period of the 8th Parliament.
In a video shared by GH One TV on December 31, 2024, Alhassan expressed her admiration for Appiagyei’s leadership skills, particularly in bridging divides between the two major parties.
Alhassan emphasized, “She was able to bring the two parties together during this difficult 8th Parliament that we had.”
She further added that Appiagyei’s leadership had been crucial in maintaining harmony and pushing through critical parliamentary work.
The Women’s Caucus believes that Appiagyei’s leadership should continue into the 9th Parliament, reinforcing the need for stability and progress.
“Mama Pat is our woman, and she should be chosen as the leader in Parliament,” Alhassan said, revealing the broad support for Appiagyei within the caucus.
Appiagyei, who became the Deputy Majority Leader in February 2024 following the promotion of Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has proven to be a steady figure during challenging times in Parliament.
The Women’s Caucus now hopes her leadership will carry on, ensuring continued cohesion and effective governance for the NPP in the coming term.
