Former Mamelodi Sundowns defender Matthew Booth believes his old club is poised to secure an unprecedented ninth consecutive PSL title, dismissing concerns over their quiet transfer window and player speculation.

Speaking exclusively to Showmax Premier League ahead of the Betway Premiership kickoff, Booth highlighted Sundowns’ “class of their own” status after a dominant 4-0 MTN8 quarter-final win against Richards Bay.

“Pirates, Stellenbosch, and Sekhukhune are strong challengers,” Booth acknowledged, “but Sundowns’ squad depth remains unmatched.” He noted the Club World Cup experience bolstered an already “well-travelled” team, predicting the champions could win the league by 5–10 points despite “confusion around two key players’ mental state.” While left-back Bradley Basadien’s signing drew praise, Booth flagged right-back as a concern if Khuliso Mudau departs, leaving Zuko Mdunyelwa as the only specialist.

Orlando Pirates emerge as Sundowns’ primary threat, with Booth labeling their attack “on par” with the champions. This Saturday’s league opener against Chippa United precedes a critical MTN8 semi-final clash with Pirates a match Booth sees as a potential title preview. “Pirates had recent MTN8 success against Downs; revenge will be front of mind,” he stated.

Sundowns’ ability to integrate replacements quickly mitigates transfer speculation risks. “Losing a player isn’t disastrous,” Booth emphasized. “Their staff assimilate newcomers faster than rivals.” As the pursuit of history begins, Booth’s verdict is unequivocal: “Absolutely” to a ninth crown.

Michael Abbiw, National President of CIMG Michael Abbiw, National President of CIMG

The Chartered Institute of Marketing, Ghana (CIMG) has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of military personnel public officials on August 6, 2025. The incident, which occurred during an anti-galamsey operation, has plunged the nation into mourning.

In a solemn statement issued Thursday August 7, 2025, CIMG conveyed its condolences to the bereaved families, the President of the Republic, the Government of Ghana, and the Ghana Armed Forces.

“We extend our deepest and heartfelt condolences to the families of the bereaved, especially their spouses and children. We pray for God’s divine strength and comfort to surround them during this profoundly difficult time,” Michael Abbiw, National President of CIMG said.

The Institute praised the fallen soldiers as “heroic servants of the nation,” acknowledging their critical mission to combat illegal small-scale mining.

“Even in this moment of national mourning, we must celebrate their virtues and devotion to the ideals of integrity, service, and the progress of Ghana,” Abbiw added.

CIMG also commended the efforts of the emergency response teams, military personnel, and all those involved in the recovery and dignified transfer of the deceased.

“Their commitment to duty, even in the face of overwhelming emotion, is deeply appreciated,” the statement read.

As the country reels from the loss, the Institute urged the media to uphold ethical standards in their reportage.

“We join the call for journalists across media platforms, both traditional and digital, to exercise ethical judgment, sensitivity, and circumspection in their coverage. Let us honour the memory of the departed by treating this tragedy with dignity and respect,” Abbiw emphasised.

Reflecting on the broader mission the officers were pursuing, curbing illegal mining and promoting environmental sustainability, CIMG reaffirmed its own dedication to national development.

“In their honour, CIMG reaffirms its commitment to supporting initiatives that promote safety, transparency, and sustainability in public policy and national development,” Abbiw noted.

He further stated that the Institute stands ready to contribute its expertise in integrated marketing communications to national campaigns aimed at behavioural change.

“As we grieve, may this moment of sorrow also inspire collective action and renewed national pride. Let us build a safer, more united, and resilient Ghana in their memory,” the CIMG president said.

Ghanaians don’t have the power to stop Kurt Okraku’s third term, only Congress can

GFA president, Kurt Okraku GFA president, Kurt Okraku

General Manager for Accra Great Olympics, Eric Alagidede has said that Ghanaians do not have the power to stop the third term ambitions of Ghana Football Association president, Kurt Okraku.

According to him, only Congress made up of football administrators can stop Kurt Okraku’s third term bid because Ghanaians who are a critical component in the football ecosystem don’t have voting rights to make any decision.

In an interview on Asempa FM on Thursday August 7, 2025, Eric Alagidede stated that, the general public doesn’t have the mandate to vote and can only express their opinions with their voice.

“Yes we will listen to the opinions of other people who are interested in the good of football, but ultimately it’s the votes that counts and makes the difference not the voice”.

“So members of Congress will decide on whether they want the GFA president to go for a third term or not because they are the ones who spend their monies to finance the activities of the clubs in Ghana,” he said.

This development comes after FIFA approved GFA’s proposal to extend the presidential term to three terms with okraku reportedly likely to run again.

The proposed amendment will be decided by 124 eligible Congress members at the upcoming meeting, scheduled to take place at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram on August 12, 2025.

Tsatsu Tsikata Cancels 50-Year Celebration Amid National Tragedy

Tsatsu Tsikata

RENOWNED LEGAL luminary Tsatsu Tsikata has called off a planned three-day celebration ( August 6th-8th) to mark his 50 years in legal practice following the devastating helicopter crash that claimed the lives of two Ministers of State and six others.

The highly anticipated event, which was set to honor Mr. Tsikata’s five-decade journey as one of Ghana’s foremost legal minds, has been shelved out of respect for the national tragedy.

As tributes pour in nationwide, Mr. Tsikata’s decision reflects a solemn recognition of the collective pain being endured.

The country was thrown into mourning yesterday after a Ghana Armed Forces helicopter crashed in a forest near Adansi Brofoyedu in the Ashanti Region, claiming eight lives, including two serving ministers and other prominent figures. The helicopter, a Ghana Air Force Z9 aircraft, had departed Accra at 9:12 a.m. en route to Obuasi, where President John Mahama was scheduled to launch a Community Mining Programme.

Chief of Staff Julius Debrah confirmed the deaths of Minister for Defence Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah and Minister for Environment, Science, and Technology Alhaji Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, among others, including Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna, Dr. Samuel Sarpong, and Mr. Samuel Aboagye.

Ghanaians Unite in Grief, Press for Transparent Probe following Military Helicopter Crash

0

A profound quiet has settled over Ghana, but it’s a silence that speaks volumes. One day after the tragic military helicopter crash, a declared three-day period of national mourning begins, a powerful pause in the rhythm of a nation. President John Mahama’s suspension of official duties and the flying of national flags at half-mast are not just formalities; they are the solemn signals of a country grappling with an immense and shared loss.

This tragedy has stripped away the ordinary, forcing the nation to look inward and focus on the irreversible human cost. The swift and deeply personal response from the government, with Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang leading delegations to personally visit and inform the bereaved families, underscores a commitment to empathy over bureaucracy. This is not just a government reacting; it is a community grieving.

The Unifying Power of Sorrow

In the face of loss, the usual political fault lines have miraculously softened. Statements from across the political spectrum show a rare and powerful unity that transcends partisan divides. Former President John Agyekum Kufuor expressed his “deep sorrow” and described the deaths as a “national loss,” a sentiment echoed by Parliament through Speaker Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, who shared “profound sadness.”

These words are more than typical political rhetoric; they are a poignant reminder that a shared tragedy can bind a nation together in ways no policy or campaign ever could. This collective grief is a powerful force for good. The sense of loss is not confined to Ghana’s borders; it is a global sorrow. Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu extended heartfelt condolences, affirming that the victims “died in the line of patriotic duty,” a testament to their unwavering commitment.

But in this age of instant news and digital noise, even grief has its challenges. The Ministry of Communication’s urgent plea to the public to stop circulating graphic crash footage on social media, urging for “empathy and respect for the deceased,” highlights a crucial point: mourning requires dignity, not spectacle. This plea is a necessary intervention, a call to a higher standard of humanity in the digital age. As one Ghanaian social media user poignantly wrote, “Let’s not make their final moments a morbid headline. Let’s remember their lives, not their deaths.”

A Legacy of Service and Sacrifice

The heart of this tragedy is the loss of dedicated public servants whose lives were a testament to their commitment to Ghana. Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, the Defence Minister, and Dr. Alhaji Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, the Environment Minister, were not just names on a list; they were individuals with a history of profound public service. The victims also included a vice-chair of the ruling party, a national security coordinator, a former Member of Parliament, and three Ghana Air Force crew members. Their deaths leave not just voids in leadership but gaping holes in the hearts of their families and the nation.

Dr. Boamah, a medical doctor by training, was known for his thoughtful and intellectual approach to governance. He was set to release a book on former President John Atta Mills, a project that revealed a more personal, reflective side to his public life. Dr. Mohammed was a fierce and unwavering fighter against the scourge of illegal mining, known as “galamsey.” The helicopter was reportedly on its way to an event to tackle this very issue, making their final mission a powerful, heartbreaking testament to their commitment. “They were on their way to serve, to protect our land,” a colleague lamented, “and they paid the ultimate price.”

The Ghana Armed Forces paid a moving tribute to the fallen crew, stating, “You served our nation and the colours gallantly. Rest In Peace!” It is a sentiment that encapsulates the profound respect and sorrow felt by a nation for those who make the ultimate sacrifice. “Our fallen heroes were the best of us,” read a widely shared social media post from a retired military officer, “and their legacy is etched in the sky they once flew through.”

The Call for a Transparent Investigation

The real test for Ghana begins when the three days of mourning end. The initial unity is a powerful start, but the question now is how the nation will move forward. Will this shared experience lead to sustained political maturity? Can it foster a new era of cooperation and national purpose? The government’s call for a united front is more than a statement; it is a challenge.

From a political and international perspective, this tragedy is a significant blow. The loss of a Defence Minister is particularly poignant in a West African region grappling with instability, military coups, and the creeping threat of Islamist insurgencies from neighboring countries like Burkina Faso. Dr. Omane Boamah was a key figure in Ghana’s security architecture, and his death creates a vacuum that must be filled quickly and decisively to maintain Ghana’s reputation as a democratic anchor in a volatile sub-region. The international community, which views Ghana as a crucial partner in regional stability, will be watching closely to see how this transition is managed.

The investigation into the crash must be transparent, thorough, and unwavering. The public demands answers. “We need to know what happened, not for blame, but to ensure it never happens again,” said a leading aviation expert on a national radio show. “The lessons from this tragedy must be learned and implemented.” The families of the deceased deserve closure, and the nation deserves a renewed commitment to safety.

The government’s decision to request assistance from international aviation experts, including from the aircraft’s manufacturers, is a crucial step towards ensuring an impartial and credible inquiry. This move not only instills confidence at home but also aligns with international best practices for military aviation incidents, demonstrating Ghana’s commitment to accountability. The opposition must also be included in this process, as their full participation is key to a truly national, rather than partisan, consensus on the path forward.

From Tragedy to Transformation

The memory of the fallen demands no less than a future built on the principles they served: unity, integrity, and a relentless commitment to the public good. The path ahead is not about moving on from this tragedy, but about carrying its weight, allowing it to transform a nation from a state of mourning into one of meaningful, unified action. As a nation, Ghana must honour the past while working together to rebuild, making their sacrifice the foundation for a stronger, more united future.

Ghanaian Medical Students in Cuba in Crisis

A group of Ghanaian medical students stranded in Cuba has issued a desperate appeal to their government and international media, revealing they have not received their essential stipends for 16 months.

Trapped by Cuba’s economic crisis and strict immigration policies, the students describe being unable to afford food, soap, sanitary supplies, or medical care while prohibited from seeking employment.

“We are expected to study, survive, and succeed without any means to sustain ourselves,” one student shared, highlighting the irony of their plight.

With Cuba facing severe unemployment even among its own citizens the Ghanaian cohort relies on loans from foreign peers to avoid starvation, accumulating debts that force some to hide before classes to evade creditors.

The relentless financial strain has severely impacted their mental health and academic performance, undermining their dream of returning home to serve as doctors.

Despite repeated assurances from Ghanaian authorities that stipends would arrive “soon,” no funds have materialized since payments stopped in early 2024.

“We feel forgotten and abandoned,” the students wrote, emphasizing they seek only the “bare minimum to survive,” not luxury.

Their studies, funded by Ghana’s government, are now jeopardized by neglect, leaving them voiceless in a system that promised them a future.

Six dead in Kenya medical small plane crash, official says

Six people have been killed after a light aircraft crashed in Kenya's capitol Six people have been killed after a light aircraft crashed in Kenya’s capitol

Six people have been killed after a light aircraft belonging to a medical charity crashed in Kenya’s capital, Nairobi, according to a local official.

Charity AMREF Flying Doctors said the Cessna plane took off from Wilson airport on Thursday afternoon and was en route to Hargeisa in Somalia when it crashed and burst into flames at a residential building in Nairobi’s Githurai area.

Kiambu County Commissioner Henry Wafula said six people on the plane were killed, including doctors, nurses, and the pilot, as well as two people on the ground, while two others were seriously injured.

Investigators have been dispatched to the scene of the crash to establish its cause.

The plane lost both radio and radar contact with air traffic control just three minutes after takeoff, the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority said.

There were four crew and AMREF staff on board, the charity said.

“At this time, we are cooperating fully with relevant aviation authorities and emergency response teams to establish the facts surrounding the situation,” AMREF CEO Stephen Gitau said in a statement.

The Kenya Defence Forces and the National Police Service have been deployed to the scene to conduct search and recovery operations.

Patricia Kombo, an eyewitness, told the BBC that she was in a cab with her friends heading to Githurai when they heard a loud bang and a red flash ahead of them.

“Before I could take my phone to record, the flash was gone, and smoke was billowing. We then heard people screaming and running, and so we ended our trip.

“We then discovered it was a plane crash and saw the sunken hole the crash had created in the ground,” she said.

In a separate incident, a train and a bus collided at a railway crossing near Naivasha town, central Kenya, killing at least four people, according to Reuters news agency, citing a Red Cross worker.

The Kenya Pipeline Company, whose bus was involved in the incident, said it was carrying staff finishing their morning shift at one of its training centres and that all injured staff had been taken to the hospital for treatment.

The Graceful First Daughter of Daddy Lumba

0

In the wake of the nation’s mourning for the legendary Charles Kwadwo Fosuh, known to the world as Daddy Lumba, a new name quietly but powerfully entered the public consciousness—Denise Lady Ama Saah Fosuh.

The poised and eloquent speaker who moved hearts during the national candlelight vigil on Saturday, August 2, 2025, is not just one of the late music icon’s children. She is his firstborn daughter and his only child by his former fiancée, Maame Ahimah, a UK-based wealth management advisor.

Denise stood alongside her siblings—Calvin, Ciara, and Charlyn—as they honoured their father’s legacy with heartfelt tributes. One of the most poignant moments of the evening was Calvin’s outro: “Yɛda mo ase b3br33”—”We thank you deeply”—a phrase that resonated across the crowd and into the hearts of fans.

This appearance not only brought Denise into the public spotlight but also stirred deep interest and admiration, especially for how she embodied the values and quiet charisma of her parents. Indeed, as the saying goes, “The seed we sow often bears the fruit of its origin.”

So, who is Denise Fosuh?
Educated in the United Kingdom, Denise holds a Law degree from the University of Bristol and a Master’s in Entrepreneurship, Management, and Innovation from the University of Bath. Professionally, she is a high achiever who has carved out an impressive career as a legal professional, senior investment associate, and Director at Bravo Multimedia Ltd. Her CV includes roles at global financial titans such as J.P. Morgan, PwC, KPMG, and Deloitte—a testament to her brilliance and versatility.

Though she currently resides abroad, Denise remains deeply connected to her Ghanaian roots. She visits home frequently and maintains strong family ties, a quiet demonstration of her deep respect for culture and heritage.

Her grace under the weight of loss, her dignified presence at the vigil, and her thoughtful words have touched many. In a moment of national reflection, Denise Lady Ama Saah Fosuh emerged as not only a loving daughter but also a symbol of the enduring legacy of Daddy Lumba—one built not just through music, but through the lives and values of those he leaves behind.

As the world continues to mourn the loss of a legend, many are only now beginning to discover the remarkable story of his first daughter—the woman who stood tall, spoke softly, and reminded us that legacy is not only in the songs we sing, but in the lives we raise.

The Government of Ghana has declared a three-day national mourning period to honour the memory of those who lost their lives in the recent military helicopter crash.

The period of mourning begins Thursday, August 7, and will end on Saturday, August 9. It is intended as a time for collective reflection and remembrance of the eight individuals who perished in the tragic incident.

A statement from the presidency indicated that the mourning will commence with a public tribute ceremony at the Ceremonial Garden, located in front of the Jubilee House. Beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, the event will include a candle-lighting and flower-laying service.

Members of the public, together with friends and family of the deceased, are invited to take part in what the presidency described as a solemn act of national remembrance.

The tribute activities will continue into Friday, August 8, offering additional space for citizens across the country to participate in the nation’s collective grief.

A plane belonging to an air ambulance service provider crashed in a residential area just outside Kenya’s capital on Thursday, August 7, killing at least six people, according to a local official and the aircraft’s owner.

AMREF Flying Doctors said that the mid-size jet, a Cessna Citation XLS, took off from an airport in Nairobi and was heading to the territory of Somaliland when it crashed.

Pope Leo XIV mourns victims of Ghana Helicopter crash

0

Pope Leo XIV has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic deaths of ministers, government officials, and military crew members who perished in a helicopter crash in Ghana on Wednesday, August 6.

The Holy Father’s condolences were conveyed in a telegram post signed by Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, and addressed to Bishop Matthew K. Gyamfi of the Sunyani Diocese, who also serves as President of the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference. The Holy See Press Office released the message on the evening of Thursday, August 7.

“His Holiness Pope Leo XIV sends his condolences upon the deaths of the ministers, government officials, and all who perished in the military helicopter crash.”

“Entrusting the souls of the deceased to the mercy of Almighty God, and with prayers for those who mourn their loss, especially their families, the Holy Father assures the nation of his spiritual closeness at this difficult time.”

The crash, which occurred in a heavily forested area of the Adansi Akrofuom District in the Ashanti Region, claimed all eight lives on board. The aircraft was transporting Ghana’s Minister of Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah; Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed; as well as Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Samuel Aboagye, a former parliamentary candidate; and NDC Vice Chairman Samuel Sarpong.

The crew members were Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

They were en route to Obuasi to participate in an official assignment focused on combating illegal mining. The helicopter reportedly went off radar before crashing, leaving no survivors.

In response to the tragedy, the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference issued a statement mourning the national loss and extending condolences to President John Dramani Mahama, Parliament, the families of the victims, and the entire country.

“We ask all Ghanaians to pray for them. We are shocked to lose such brilliant minds all at once.”

The bishops described the deceased as “men of proven commitment, servants of the state, politicians, technocrats, and gallant officers of the Ghana Armed Forces who gave their lives in the service of the Republic, its institutions, and the people.”

“Their sudden and untimely passing is not only a blow to their families and friends, but also a great loss for the nation,” the statement added.

President Mahama has since declared three days of national mourning, as investigations into the cause of the crash continue.

Sarkodie has paid tribute to the late Murtala Mohammed Sarkodie has paid tribute to the late Murtala Mohammed

While Ghana mourns the tragic military helicopter crash that claimed eight lives on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie has paid tribute to the late Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, one of the victims of the crash.

In a post shared on X on August 7, 2025, Sarkodie reflected on how he had previously distanced himself from politics due to the negative perception many Ghanaians hold about politicians.

However, Sarkodie noted that it was only after the tragedy that he discovered a powerful video of the late minister.

“I find it difficult to connect with any politician because of the general perception that most of them have created among the public. It’s sad that it took such a tragic incident for me to come across this footage of Hon. Murtala Mohammed. May his soul rest in peace. This message is powerful and deserves to be shared,” Sarkodie wrote.

The video, which has since gone viral, shows Dr Murtala Mohammed passionately addressing fellow politicians at a public gathering, warning against corruption.

“If you take any money which belongs to the state, you will answer to the people on the Day of Judgement… One of the major challenges confronting us in this country is corruption,” he was heard saying in the video.

This was confirmed by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, on Thursday, August 7, 2025, a day after the tragic incident.

In a post on Facebook, he wrote, “Black box has been found,” a development that has been met with both relief and anxiety.

The black box, which comprises the Flight Data Recorder (FDR) and the Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR), will play a crucial role in determining the cause of the accident.

In every aviation accident, the black box is considered the most critical piece of equipment, as it provides investigators with vital clues about what transpired in the final moments before the crash.

It is regarded as the most valuable tool in air crash investigations due to its role in collecting data that can improve aviation safety protocols and help prevent similar tragedies in the future.

Dr Edward Omane Boamah was among the victims of the Z-9 helicopter crash, which involved a Ghana Armed Forces aircraft.

The crash also claimed the life of the Minister for Environment, Science, and Technology, Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed.

Other victims include the Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna; former Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Samuel Sarpong; and Samuel Aboagye, a former parliamentary candidate.

Members of the helicopter’s crew who perished are Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Malin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

The helicopter crashed on August 6, 2025, while en route to Obuasi to participate in a government mission related to illegal mining (galamsey) as part of ongoing national efforts to curb the menace.

The tragic military helicopter crash occurred on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, near Sikaman in the Adansi Akrofuom area of the Ashanti Region.

The aircraft involved was a Ghana Air Force Z-9 helicopter, which had taken off from the Air Force Base in Accra en route to a Forward Operating Base in the Western Region.

Hours later, emergency teams discovered the wreckage deep within a forested area, with all eight persons on board, comprising three crew members and five passengers, confirmed dead.

The impact and subsequent fire left the remains badly charred, making immediate identification difficult.

The Ghana Armed Forces, in coordination with other state agencies, has launched an internal investigation into the cause of the crash.

GAF mourns helicopter crash victims, urges respectful media coverage

Accra, Aug. 7, GNA – The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) is mourning the loss of Defence Minister Dr Edward Omane Boamah, and seven other government officials, and military personnel who died in a helicopter crash on August 6, 2025.

Naval Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director-General of the Public Relations Department of the GAF, told the Ghana News Agency in an exclusive interview that the tragedy had left personnel visibly shaken.

“In fact, it is the most tragic day within the Ghana Armed Forces. With my over 26 years’ experience, I’ve never seen something like this in the Armed Forces where you see personnel visibly shaken,” she said.

Naval Captain Arhin described the aftermath as extremely difficult for soldiers, emphasising the close-knit nature of the military.

“It’s a very, a very difficult time for the soldiers because the Armed Forces is like a family,” she said.

Naval Captain Arhin called the incident a national disaster and warned that recovery would take time.

“…It’s a national disaster and a tragedy that would take a long time for us to overcome. Apart from those who died in the crash, we have their wives. Some of them are also upset. Some of them live with us in the barracks. And so, it’s a very devastating blow to the Armed Forces,” she added.

Naval Captain Arhin criticised the manner in which some media outlets reported the incident, describing it as insensitive.

“We are disappointed at some of the major media houses and the way they have carried this particular incident.  I am sure that we would have all loved that if any of the personnel on board were our relatives…we would have loved that somebody came to our house to inform us before seeing it in the media,” she said.

She condemned the circulation of graphic images and speculative reporting.

“Yes, they are trying to inform us, but the way it went was a bit disappointing, especially those who were showing charred bodies, others who were drawing their own conclusions and muddying the waters instead of we giving respect to the departed, which is a key cultural belief of Ghanaians irrespective of where we come from. We respect and we honour the dead, and that is what we had expected,” she added.

Naval Captain Arhin urged the public to show restraint in their discussions and media sharing.

“We appeal to the general public to be minded about the discussions and the yes, and the coverage. We also appeal to those sharing the videos of the charred bodies to please try and delete it. They should put themselves in the states of the family members of these people,” she said.

She called on all Ghanaians to treat the incident as a national loss and honour the memory of the deceased.

In an interview on Hitz FM and shared on social media on August 6th, 2025, Ablekuma-based up-and-rising artiste Hunnyboy disclosed how attempts to get in touch with Shatta Wale, six months after releasing his song, proved futile.

Hunnyboy said he wasn’t using Tiktok then because he only had a few followers, “I only had 200 followers on Tiktok back then, and my posts were not going far so I stopped using it” but that particular day his friend encouraged him to post his video anyway, which he did and captioned it “imagine Shatta Wale on this ” without giving it much thought.

The artiste said he woke up the next day, however, with a comment under his post from Shatta Wale. His excitement was further expanded when Shatta Wale asked him to contact his PRO, Sammy Flex, so they could get some work done.

Hunnyboy further explained that getting in touch with Sammy Flex wasn’t easy because he (Sammy Flex) was busy, and he (Hunnyboy) couldn’t.

The artiste recounts that Shatta Wale himself later contacted him to send the beat. And not long after that, Shatta reordered his verse onto the beat and sent it back to him on his (Shatta Wale) personal WhatsApp number. It didn’t end there; Shatta also made himself available for the music video.

Hunnyboy said the song “winning” was a manifestation, “I wrote and recorded winning even when I had nothing going on, it’s one thing to say you’re winning when you have something going on, and it’s another thing when there’s nothing but you still believe you’re winning. That was the kind of situation to which I wrote winning”.

The artiste believes he manifested and it became a reality, and now he has thousands of followers on TikTok.

Villarreal break silence on Partey’s rape allegations after announcing his transfer

Villarreal CF have officially signed Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey on a free transfer, but the move has sparked backlash due to the player’s ongoing legal troubles in the United Kingdom.

The Spanish club confirmed Partey’s arrival on Thursday, August 7, 2025, stating the 32-year-old will join the squad at their training ground on Thursday ahead of the 2025/26 season.

In their official statement, Villarreal praised Partey’s qualities, describing him as a “complete midfielder” with “great stamina and exceptional physical attributes.”

The club highlighted his past success with Arsenal, Atlético Madrid, and the Ghana national team, where he has earned over 50 caps.

BREAKING: Villarreal announce the signing of Thomas Partey

However, the announcement also addressed the legal storm surrounding Partey. The former Arsenal man is currently facing five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault in the UK, related to alleged incidents between 2021 and 2022.

He has denied all charges and is expected to appear in court later this year.

“Due to the law in England in relation to ongoing proceedings, the club is unable to comment further,” the club stated, but reiterated their respect for the principle of presumption of innocence.

Despite the legal uncertainty, Villarreal’s decision to proceed with the signing has drawn heavy criticism from sections of their fanbase.

Hundreds have voiced outrage online, with petitions circulating demanding the club reverse the transfer.

Many have labelled the move as “a stain on the club” and accused the management of placing sporting success above ethics.

Villarreal concluded their statement by reaffirming their commitment to diversity and the condemnation of “all acts of violence in all its forms, including gender-based violence.”

Villarreal Supporters Group President calls for Partey’s move to be ‘suspended’

Partey joins after a five-year stint with Arsenal, where he made 167 appearances, won the 2023/24 Community Shield, and helped the Gunners to multiple top-four finishes.

Zambia dismisses US health warning after toxic spill in copper mining area

0

he US claims that the spill caused dangerous pollution in the area he US claims that the spill caused dangerous pollution in the area

The Zambian government has dismissed claims of dangerous pollution in the Copperbelt mining region, following safety concerns raised by the US embassy.

On Wednesday, the US embassy issued a health alert, ordering the immediate withdrawal of its personnel in Kitwe town and nearby areas due to concerns of “widespread contamination of water and soil” linked to a February spill at the Sino-Metals mine.

The spill happened when a tailings dam, used to store toxic waste and heavy metals, collapsed into the Kafue River, a key drinking water source, following heavy rain.

The US embassy said there was new information that showed “the extent of hazardous and carcinogenic substances”.

It warned that beyond the “contaminated water and soil, contaminants from the spilled mine tailings may also become airborne, posing a health threat if inhaled”.

Zambia’s government spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa hit back, saying the “laboratory results show that PH levels have returned to normal” in the area and the water was safe to drink.

Mweetwa said there were no longer any serious implications for public health, water safety, agriculture or the environment.

“There is, therefore, absolutely no need to press the ‘panic button’ today to alarm the nation and the international community.”

Sino-Metals Leach Zambia mine is a subsidiary of China Nonferrous Metal Mining Group, which is owned by the Chinese government.

The BBC has asked Sino-Metals for comment.

At the time of the spill, Sino-Metals pledged to compensate the affected communities and restore the environment.

The spill affected aquatic life as well as farmers who use the water to irrigate their crops.

Green Economy Minister Mike Mposha said the government had been proactive since February and was continuing to update the public, while affected communities have been compensated.

Minister of Water Development Collins Nzovu said the government has been constantly testing the water, and that it met World Health Organization standards.

Opposition Green Party leader Peter Sinkamba said the US embassy’s health alert was part of geopolitics.

He wondered why it had taken the embassy since February to issue the alert, while accusing it of keeping quiet on the lead poisoning in central Zambia that partly traces its roots to Western mining giants.

Centre for Environment Justice executive director Maggie Mapalo Mwape told the BBC the pollution was a national disaster that demands immediate and concrete action to mitigate its effects and prevent future occurrences.

She called for decisive action to address this environmental crisis and protect the rights and wellbeing of Zambian citizens.

Spotlight on China’s Z-9 Helicopter after Ghana tragedy

0

The tragic crash of a Ghana Air Force Z-9 helicopter in the Ashanti Region on August 6, 2025 — which claimed the lives of eight individuals, including Minister for Defence Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Minister for Environment Alhaji Dr. Murtala Muhammed — has cast renewed scrutiny on the safety record of the Chinese-manufactured aircraft.

Built by the Harbin Aircraft Industry Group, the Z-9 is a multi-role utility helicopter developed from the French-designed Eurocopter Dauphin.

While widely adopted by China’s military and exported to various countries across Africa and Asia, the helicopter has been the subject of persistent concerns over safety, structural reliability, and maintenance challenges.

A Pattern of Crashes Across Africa

The Ghana tragedy is not an isolated incident. In recent years, several African nations operating the Z-9 have experienced serious — and sometimes fatal — accidents involving the aircraft:

Zambia (2013): A newly delivered Z-9 crashed shortly after arrival, killing a major and injuring another officer.

Cameroon (2014): One of the country’s four Z-9 helicopters crashed within six months of procurement. Another went down during a patrol mission.

Mali (2019): The last operational Z-9 in the country’s fleet was destroyed in a crash, ending its short deployment.

Gabon (2011): A Z-9 involved in a VIP transport mission crashed, prompting a quiet review of the entire fleet.

These repeated incidents highlight a troubling pattern, especially among countries that use the Z-9 for critical roles such as troop transport, search-and-rescue, and anti-poaching operations.

Pakistan Navy Also Raised Alarm

Concerns about the Z-9 extend beyond Africa. The Pakistan Navy has publicly criticized the Z-9EC — a naval variant — citing numerous mechanical and operational failures, including:

Tail rotor blade failures, causing the aircraft to swing dangerously during flight.

Corrosion of main rotor blades due to exposure to seawater, reducing their operational lifespan drastically.

Landing gear issues, with faulty brake valves leading to multiple tire bursts during landings.

Despite establishing a dedicated maintenance facility, Pakistani authorities reported that many problems persisted, primarily due to substandard Chinese spare parts, according to internal reviews and regional defense sources.

A Worrying Future for Air Safety?

While the Z-9 remains in service in several countries, including Ghana, recent developments raise fresh questions about the reliability of Chinese-supplied military hardware in high-risk missions.

Aviation experts point to three key issues undermining safety: weak after-sales support, poor-quality spare parts, and inadequate training for pilots and maintenance crews. These deficiencies, they say, have contributed to the helicopter’s elevated risk profile, especially in Africa.

As Ghana launches a formal investigation into the August 6 crash, the tragedy may serve as a turning point — prompting governments across the continent to re-evaluate procurement standards for critical military and emergency aviation assets.

Akwatia by-election talks on hold, we’re mourning – Tanko Computer

0

The Deputy Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Rashid Tanko-Computer, has announced that all discussions regarding the upcoming Akwatia by-election have been suspended in the wake of the tragic military helicopter crash that occurred on Wednesday, August 6.

The accident claimed the lives of several high-ranking government and party officials, including the NDC’s Director of Elections and Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s Citiuation Room on Thursday, August 7, Tanko described Dr. Boamah as the backbone of the party’s electoral machinery, praising his leadership and strategic insight that helped secure victories in challenging constituencies.

“He was the engine of our directorate. In fact, even after he was made Defence Minister, he was still working as the Director of Elections. For us to win Ablekuma North, he showed us all the strategies to be executed,” he said.

Tanko recounted that he was in direct communication with Dr. Boamah just hours before the fatal crash, working together on plans for the Akwatia by-election.

“As of the morning of yesterday at 7:45 am, he was still working as the Director of Elections, and we discussed the strategy to use for the Akwatia by-election, only for us to lose him in the next couple of hours,” he recounted with emotion.

He went on to laud Dr. Boamah’s remarkable intellect and versatility, describing him as a rare talent who excelled not only in politics but also in medicine, writing, and electoral strategy.

Tanko emphasized the profound impact of the tragedy on the NDC, revealing that the party is currently in mourning and unable to proceed with any electoral plans until further notice.

“Currently, we are devastated by his death and that of the other National Officers. We are devastated. For now, nobody has the nerve to talk about Akwatia. We are mourning our gallant officers. After that, a decision will be taken at the national level. Akwatia is not on the table as of now,” he stated.

Expensive equipment goes missing at Chelsea’s training grounds

0

Chelsea have reported a theft case to the Police after £30,000 worth of high-tech camera equipments used in training disappeared from their Cobham headquarters.

According to The Sun, the club called Police over the missing equipment’s.

While it is not currently known whether the equipment had simply been mislaid, the incident has been deemed suspicious enough for the police to involved.

Chelsea, like many top clubs, relies heavily on video analysis to enhance their players’ tactical awareness. They use footage from training sessions and games to help players understand their performance, identify areas for improvement, and develop their skills.

This approach is a key part of their coaching and development process, allowing them to fine-tune their strategy and gain a competitive edge.

It has also proven beneficial for physical preparation before games.

Chelsea declined to comment on the timing and circumstances of the discovery, but more details could come to light once all staff members return from holidays.

Chris Eubank Jr , Conor Benn Set For Explosive Rematch In November

0

Chris Eubank Jr , Conor Benn

British boxing fans can look forward to another showdown between fierce rivals Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn, with the highly anticipated rematch confirmed for 15 November at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The pair first clashed in April at the same venue in a thrilling middleweight contest that saw Eubank claim a unanimous decision victory, winning 116-112 on all three judges’ scorecards. Despite no title being at stake, the fight captured massive attention as it came 35 years after their legendary fathers, Chris Eubank Sr and Nigel Benn, first met in the ring.

After the April bout, fans immediately called for a rematch, and a September 20 date was initially agreed upon. However, the fight fell through amid concerns that Eubank would not be ready in time.

Now, organisers Ring Magazine, owned by Saudi boxing powerbroker Turki Alalshikh, have announced that the rematch will go ahead in November. Benn’s promoter, Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing, confirmed the news via Instagram. Eubank and his team have yet to comment publicly.

The road to this rematch has been far from smooth. At one point, Hearn declared the fight “dead” after doubts emerged about Eubank’s readiness. But with Alalshikh stepping in to revive negotiations, the blockbuster bout is back on the calendar.

Their first encounter delivered plenty of drama—from a WWE-style entrance by Chris Eubank Sr to the sight of a weight-drained Eubank doing just enough to keep the smaller Benn at bay. Whether the sequel can replicate that magic remains to be seen, but boxing fans will have their answer this November in London.

Black Box of crashed Military helicopter recovered – Amoakohene confirms

0

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has confirmed the recovery of the black box from the Ghana Armed Forces Z-9 helicopter that crashed in the Adansi Akrofuom District on Wednesday, August 6, claiming the lives of several high-ranking government and military officials.

In a Facebook post on Thursday, August 7, Dr. Amoakohene announced the progress, indicating that a team of investigators had successfully located the black box at the crash site, a vital step toward unravelling the cause of the tragic incident.

The team, made up of officers from the Ghana Air Force and other military units, embarked on the mission earlier Thursday morning. They were joined by residents and the Assembly Member for the area, who guided them through the forested terrain to the remote crash location.

The crash, described as one of the most devastating air tragedies in recent Ghanaian history, resulted in the death of the Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, and the Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed.

Other persons who also perished in the crash included Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Samuel Aboagye, a former Parliamentary Candidate; and Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the NDC. The three crew members, Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah, also died.

Initial reports indicate the helicopter was en route to Obuasi when it went off radar, prompting a swift response and search mission by military and local authorities.

The recovery of the black box is expected to provide crucial data to investigators, who are working against the clock to piece together the chain of events leading to the fatal crash.

Meanwhile, Samples of the remains of the eight individuals who perished have been flown to South Africa for DNA analysis to aid in their identification.

Ghana Midfielder Thomas Partey Joins Villarreal Amid Pending Rape Trial

Thomas Partey
Thomas Partey

Ghanaian international Thomas Partey has signed a two-year contract with La Liga side Villarreal CF, departing Arsenal FC effective immediately.

The Spanish club announced the transfer on social media Wednesday, confirming the 32-year-old midfielder will join training at their Sports City complex on August 8.

Villarreal’s statement acknowledged the ongoing legal proceedings against Partey, who faces five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault allegedly occurring between 2021 and 2022. The midfielder appeared in a UK court on August 5 where he was granted conditional bail; his next hearing is scheduled for September 2.

Partey’s move concludes a five-year tenure at Arsenal, where he made 99 appearances after joining from Atlético Madrid in 2020. Villarreal, known as the “Yellow Submarine,” finished eighth in La Liga last season and will integrate Partey into their midfield ahead of their 2025-26 campaign opener.

The transfer has drawn scrutiny due to the unresolved criminal case. UK authorities confirm the investigation remains active, though Partey maintains his innocence. Football governance regulations permit transfers during ongoing legal proceedings unless disciplinary sanctions are imposed by federations.

Sudan military destroyed UAE plane carrying Colombian mercenaries: State TV

Sudan’s air force has destroyed a UAE aircraft carrying Colombian mercenaries as it was landing at an airport in Darfur controlled by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), army-aligned state TV reported.

The attack late on Wednesday killed at least 40 people, the state broadcaster reported.

The airport has recently come under repeated air strikes by the Sudanese army, which has been at war with the RSF since April 2023.

A military source, speaking to the AFP news agency on condition of anonymity, said the Emirati plane “was bombed and completely destroyed” at Darfur’s Nyala airport.

There was no immediate comment from the RSF.

AFP quoted an Emirati official denouncing what he considered false allegations that the Sudanese army had destroyed the plane.

Colombia’s President Gustavo Petro said his government was trying to find out how many Colombians died in the attack.

“We will see if we can bring their bodies back,” he wrote on X.

State TV said the aircraft had taken off from an airbase in the Gulf, carrying dozens of foreign fighters and military equipment intended for the RSF, which controls nearly all of Darfur.

The army, led by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, has long accused the United Arab Emirates of supplying advanced weaponry, including drones, to the RSF via Nyala Airport.

Abu Dhabi has denied the accusations.

Satellite images released by Yale University’s Humanitarian Research Lab have shown multiple Chinese-made long-range drones at the airport of the South Darfur state capital.

On Monday, Sudan’s army-aligned government accused the UAE of recruiting and funding Colombian mercenaries to fight for the RSF, claiming it has documents proving that.

Reports of Colombian fighters in Darfur date back to late 2024 and have been confirmed by United Nations experts.

Colombia seeks to ban mercenaries

This week, the Joint Forces – a pro-army coalition in Darfur – reported more than 80 Colombian mercenaries fighting on the RSF’s side in el-Fasher, the last Darfur state capital still under army control.

The army also released video footage it said was of “foreign mercenaries believed to be from Colombia”, which could not be independently verified.

In December, Sudan said Colombia’s Foreign Ministry had expressed regret “for the participation of some of its citizens in the war”.

Colombian mercenaries, many former soldiers and guerrillas, have appeared in other global conflicts and were previously hired by the UAE for operations in Yemen and the Gulf.

In his post on Wednesday, Petro said he was moving to ban mercenary activity, calling it “a trade in men turned into commodities to kill”.

As fighting continues, thousands of families trapped in the besieged city of el-Fasher are at “risk of starvation”, the UN’s World Food Programme (WFP) has warned.

An outbreak of cholera in the North Darfur state, of which el-Fasher is the capital, has further added to the misery.

Sudan’s war, now in its third year, has killed tens of thousands, displaced 13 million, and plunged the nation into the world’s worst hunger and displacement crisis.

NCA gives MultiChoice Ghana 30 days to respond to suspension notice

0

The National Communications Authority (NCA) has officially notified Multichoice Ghana Limited of its intention to suspend the company’s authorisation to operate its Subscription Management Service for Satellite Television Broadcasting (Pay TV Direct-to-Home Bouquet).

This regulatory move is being carried out upon the directive of the Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George.

The development follows a standoff between Multichoice Ghana and the Minister, who has accused the company, operators of DStv, of imposing unfair and exorbitant subscription fees on Ghanaians.

He reiterated his resolve to take regulatory action against the company, describing the pricing model as exploitative and insensitive to the country’s economic conditions.

In a statement issued on Sunday, August 3, Multichoice Ghana described the Minister’s directive to the NCA as “regrettable,” stating that further reductions in subscription fees were not feasible under current market conditions.

However, the Minister rejected the company’s explanation, arguing that its position fails to reflect the economic hardships currently faced by the average Ghanaian consumer.

In a statement issued on Thursday, August 7, the NCA said the regulatory action is being taken under Section 13 of the Electronic Communications Act, 2008 (Act 775), citing concerns over Multichoice Ghana’s pricing model, which it described as “inimical to the public interest.”

As required by law, Multichoice Ghana has been given a 30-day window to respond. During this period, the company may submit its views, take remedial action, or file a written statement of objections regarding the planned suspension.

“By this notice, Multichoice Ghana has thirty (30) days within which the company may present its views, or provide remedial action, and submit a written statement of its objections to the suspension of the authorisation,” the statement said.

The move marks a significant development in the regulation of pay-TV services in Ghana, as the NCA reinforces its mandate to ensure fair and transparent practices in the communications sector.

Further updates are expected upon the conclusion of the 30-day response period.

The Minister’s reaffirmation comes amid rising public dissatisfaction over DStv’s pricing model in Ghana — concerns that have prompted calls for intervention from various stakeholders, including the Minority in Parliament.

While the Minority has urged a diplomatic approach, encouraging engagement between the Ministry, MultiChoice Ghana, and the National Communications Authority (NCA), the Minister has insisted that the process of regulatory enforcement will proceed.
