Daddy Lumba already wrote his own tribute; we don’t need new songs

Presidential Adviser on Diaspora Affairs at the Presidency, Kofi Okyere Darko popularly referred to as KOD, has urged musicians and industry stakeholders not to create tribute songs for the late Highlife legend, Daddy Lumba.

In a Facebook post, KOD explained that paying tribute to the music legend through new songs would be extremely difficult and unnecessary.

According to him, Daddy Lumba had already told his story through his own music while he was alive.

“Creating a tribute song for Daddy Lumba won’t be easy and should not be encouraged…he already wrote his own while he was still with us. His music said it all long before we ever had to say goodbye,” KOD wrote.

Many people within the music space have suggested that the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) should lead efforts to produce tribute songs in his honour, a practice that has become common when music legends pass away.

However, KOD disagrees with this approach, particularly in the case of Daddy Lumba, who left behind a rich catalog of songs that have defined generations of Ghanaian music.

In response to KOD’s post, media personality Lexis Bill shared similar sentiments, warning against remixing any of Lumba’s classics.

“I agree. Makra Mo put an end to his journey and that’s enough. And we don’t need anybody remixing any of his iconic tracks. None of his songs should be sampled in our generation,” Lexis Bill commented.

Three suspects have been remanded, one granted GH¢50,000 bail Three suspects have been remanded, one granted GH¢50,000 bail

The Awutu Bereku District Court, presided over by Her Ladyship Armah Adomako Kwarkye, has remanded three suspects into police custody in connection with the murder of a 65-year-old security man at Gomoa Akoti in the Central Region.

A fourth suspect, Nabil Mohammed, a phone dealer at Kasoa, was granted bail in the sum of GH¢50,000 with two sureties.

According to a report by adomonline.com on August 5, 2025, the suspects, Samuel Larbie, a 28-year-old businessman, and Wisdom Sosu, a 32-year-old mechanic, among others, were arrested by the Gomoa Ojobi District Police Command after allegedly travelling from Fetteh Kakraba to Gomoa Akoti to commit the crime.

The prosecution stated that the suspects tied the victim’s legs, knees, and head before suffocating him to death.

They allegedly stole the victim’s Infinix Smart 8 mobile phone, valued at GH¢1,800, along with copper coils and other components from two ECG transformers worth GH¢250,000.

Investigations revealed that the stolen phone was sold to Nabil Mohammed, whose arrest led to the identification and apprehension of the other suspects.

The stolen electrical components were reportedly sold to another individual in Accra.

Nabil is expected to reappear in court on August 18, 2025.

Following the court proceedings, the deceased’s brother, Peter Dankwa, commended the police for their swift action and urged them to ensure the arrest of all remaining suspects to guarantee justice.

Ghanaians demand lower DStv prices over unfair differences across countries

0

Ghanaians are increasingly raising concerns over DStv’s pricing, calling for reductions in subscription fees following reports that users in countries like Nigeria enjoy lower rates.

In a recent Vox Pop conducted by GhanaWeb, many expressed frustration over the perceived unfairness and questioned why some African countries have seen up to 30% reductions in DStv charges, while Ghanaians are facing a 15% increase.

“I think DStv should reduce the price because what’s the reason for other countries benefiting from a 30% reduction while Ghana is being hit with a 15% increase? We are all African countries, so whatever someone else is enjoying, we should enjoy too,” a subscriber told GhanaWeb.

Another subscriber pointed out that with the recent drop in the dollar exchange rate, prices should have been adjusted downward rather than increased.

“If the dollar rate is down, then it has to be reduced,” another subscriber said.

Others complained that the shows and channels offered in Ghana are not the same as in other countries, even though Ghanaians sometimes pay more.

While a few called for significant reductions, others believed that even a small cut would help ease the financial burden on subscribers.

Many believe it’s time for MultiChoice Ghana to review its pricing structure and address what they see as unfair treatment compared to other African countries.

Rio Ferdinand believes Madueke (R) has better prospect than Kudus (L) Rio Ferdinand believes Madueke (R) has better prospect than Kudus (L)

Legendary English footballer, Rio Ferdinand, has said that Mohammed Kudus and Noni Madueke have similar playing qualities.

According to him, although both players are skillful, he believes the former Chelsea winger has more exposure in the Premier League compared to the Ghanaian attacker.

Ferdinand asserted that with Madueke’s current performance, he will become a great player in the future compared to the Tottenham Hotspur attacker.

Speaking on the Rio Presents podcast, the former Manchester United defender noted that Madueke’s signing will strengthen Arsenal’s squad ahead of the 2025/2026 season.

“Potential-wise, I don’t think there’s a massive difference. I think age is a big thing. The number of games Madueke has played compared to Kudus makes a big difference. He hasn’t had the same exposure in the Premier League. I think Madueke has got a ceiling, and he can go places. I think he’s a great addition,” Ferdinand said.

Meanwhile, Madueke’s move to Arsenal was protested by some fans who believe the player doesn’t deserve to be signed, considering his inconsistent performances, while Kudus’ move to Tottenham Hotspur has been hailed by Spurs fans and some pundits.

EOCO seizes Lamborghini from Shatta Wale in FBI-backed asset recovery operation

0

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has confirmed the seizure of a luxury Lamborghini Urus SUV from popular Ghanaian musician Shatta Wale.

The vehicle is said to be linked to convicted Ghanaian-American fraudster Nana Kwabena Amuah, also known as Philip Osei Tutu.

The high-end vehicle, which was in the possession of Ghanaian dancehall artist Shatta Wale at the time of the seizure, was reportedly acquired using proceeds from Amuah’s multi-million-dollar romance and business email compromise schemes in the United States.

In a statement, EOCO revealed that the confiscation followed a formal request from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the United States Department of Justice, who had identified the vehicle as an asset purchased with fraudulently acquired funds.

EOCO said Shatta Wale, who was present when its officials visited his residence, initially resisted efforts to take the vehicle.

However, he later complied and voluntarily handed over the keys after learning the true nature of the matter.

EOCO’s statement clarifies that the agency acted within its legal mandate under Ghana’s Proceeds of Crime Act.

The car was among several properties flagged in the US judgment that sentenced Amuah to 64 months in prison and ordered him to pay over $4 million in restitution to his victims.

“The vehicle has been duly secured and will be handed over to the United States authorities in accordance with the judgement issued by the US District Court,” EOCO said in its release.

EOCO has reiterated its commitment to assisting international law enforcement efforts and urged the public to cooperate in similar cases as the country strengthens its asset recovery and anti-money laundering framework.

Adom-Otchere’s detention was unfair and unjust – Titus Glover

0

Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus Glover ,Greater Accra Regional Minister

Former Deputy Transport Minister and Member of Parliament for Tema East, Titus Nii Kwartei Glover, has criticised the circumstances surrounding the detention of former Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) Board Chairman, Paul Adom-Otchere, describing the development as “unfair and unjust.”

Speaking on Adom FM’s morning show, , Mr Glover questioned why Adom-Otchere was the only individual targeted in the ongoing investigation into a revenue assurance contract between GACL and a private firm.

“There is no money missing; they only mentioned a revenue shortfall. Why did they decide to pick only the board chairman?” he asked.

The outspoken MP also raised concerns about the bail conditions imposed by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), alleging that the process is now being weaponised.

“It looks like some institutions of state, including the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), are now using bail as a weapon to suppress people,” he asserted.

According to him, the stringent bail conditions were politically motivated.

“Just because some people don’t like his broadcast and analysis, they want to suppress him. It’s unfair and unjust,” he added.

Mr Adom-Otchere was invited by the OSP over alleged irregularities in the awarding of a contract that reportedly lacked full board approval during his tenure. He was released from custody on August 2, 2025, after initially failing to meet the bail conditions.

ETI posts $398m profit before tax in first half

0

Ecobank Group has reported a profit before tax of $398 million for the first half of 2025, marking a 23 per cent increase from the same period last year.

The rise in earnings was driven by stronger revenue and improved operating efficiency across its regional and business segments.

In a statement, the Pan-African bank said net revenue grew by 12 per cent year-on-year to $1.1 billion, while its cost-to-income ratio improved to 49.1 per cent, the best it has seen in over a decade.

Customer deposits also grew by $3.4 billion during the period, reaching $23.9 billion, with a large share of these in low-cost current and savings accounts.

The Chief Executive Officer of Ecobank Group, Jeremy Awori, disclosed that the Group’s financial performance for the first half of 2025 demonstrated resilience in the face of macroeconomic uncertainties.

“This showcases the advantages provided by the Group’s diversified business model and the effectiveness of our Growth, Transformation and Returns (GTR) strategy,” he said

Growth

The Corporate and Investment Banking division recorded a strong performance, with profit before tax rising 44 per cent to $323 million.

According to the Group, this was supported by better asset and liability management and increasing client demand for trade finance and foreign exchange services.

The Consumer and Commercial Banking division also contributed to overall growth, delivering a 10 per cent rise in profit before tax to $216 million.

The performance was boosted by steady growth in the small and medium-sized enterprises segment, as well as in services for high-value individual clients.

Ecobank’s regional results showed broad-based improvements.

Francophone West Africa posted a 12 per cent increase in profit before tax to $176 million, while Anglophone West Africa delivered $175 million, up 19 per cent, a rise attributed to Ghana’s positive performance.

Digital drive

In the last six months, Ecobank has stepped up investments in its digital infrastructure and customer experience platforms.

A major development in this area is the Group’s partnership with Google Cloud, aimed at improving data architecture, enhancing security and driving payment innovation across the continent.

The bank also said it had rolled out hundreds of new ATMs and invested in technology for loan management, transaction banking and wealth management.

These are expected to improve service delivery and reach more customers in underserved areas.

“As the Group approaches its 40th anniversary, we remain committed to delivering world-class financial services, deepening inclusion and unlocking long-term value for customers, partners, shareholders and communities across Africa,” he said.

Strategy

Ecobank said it would continue to pursue its GTR strategy to drive performance in the second half of the year.

The Group remains focused on innovation, operational excellence and regional integration to support long-term growth across Africa.

Management emphasised that the Group’s diversified presence in over 30 African countries positions it well to weather economic shocks and benefit from new opportunities in trade, technology and financial inclusion.

“We are building for the future by investing in systems, people and platforms that create value across the ecosystem,” he said.

EOCO seizes Lamborghini from Shatta Wale in joint operation with FBI

0

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has confirmed conducting a search and seizure operation at the Trassaco Valley Phase 1 residence of Ghanaian dancehall artiste Charles Nii Armah Mensah, popularly known as Shatta Wale.

The operation, carried out in June 2025 by EOCO’s Surveillance and Asset Recovery Unit (SARU), followed a 2023 request from the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Department of Justice (DOJ).

The request was part of an ongoing international investigation into financial crimes.

During the operation, EOCO seized a 2019 Lamborghini Urus linked to criminal proceeds belonging to Nana Kwabena Amuah, a Ghanaian currently serving an 86-month sentence in the U.S. for multiple financial offences.

According to both Ghanaian and U.S. authorities, the luxury vehicle was acquired with funds from Amuah’s criminal activities and had been traced to Shatta Wale.

EOCO stated that the operation was carried out lawfully and without incident. Officers were described as professional and civil throughout the exercise.

Shatta Wale reportedly appealed to the officers to keep the seizure out of the public domain, citing concerns that the vehicle was central to his brand and public image. He was, however, allowed to voluntarily hand over the vehicle, which is now in EOCO custody.

EOCO further clarified that it is standard protocol for SARU officers to be armed during such operations for security reasons.

A formal Mutual Legal Assistance (MLA) request is expected from the FBI and DOJ to the Government of Ghana, seeking the repatriation of the Lamborghini as part of efforts to recover a $4.7 million restitution imposed on Amuah.

EOCO also revealed that Shatta Wale and a former senior officer of Ghana’s National Signals Bureau (NSB) have been named persons of interest in the matter. Both are expected to be invited to assist with the ongoing investigation.

The agency added that the final investigative report may be shared with U.S. authorities in line with international cooperation protocols.

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has confirmed claims by Ghanaian dancehall artiste Charles Nii Armah Mensah, popularly known as Shatta Wale, that officers raided his home.

In a statement released on August 5, 2025, the agency said the raid followed a joint investigation with the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the United States Department of Justice.

According to EOCO, a search was conducted at Shatta Wale’s residence in Trassaco Valley, Accra, in June 2025, leading to the discovery and seizure of a 2019 Lamborghini Urus.

“The operation, which was undertaken by the Surveillance and Asset Recovery Unit (SARU) of EOCO, led to the discovery and seizure of a 2019 Lamborghini Urus, which the FBI and the Justice Department have tied to the proceeds of the criminal enterprise of one Nana Kwabena Amuah, who is currently serving an 86-month sentence for several financial crimes in the U.S.

“The car was seized from one Charles Nii Armah, aka Shatta Wale. The officers were professional and civil, and the search and seizure occurred without incident,” the statement said.

EOCO further stated that Shatta Wale had “begged” the officials to keep the seizure private, fearing that public attention could damage his image.

He was permitted to drive and personally surrender the vehicle.

“Nii Armah had pleaded with officers that he did not want the seizure to be made public because the vehicle was a big part of his brand and that if his supporters saw the vehicle being driven away in the company of EOCO, it would destroy his brand.

“Nii Armah was allowed to surrender the vehicle himself, which is currently in the possession of EOCO,” the statement added.

The agency also noted that it is in the process of sending a formal Mutual Legal Assistance request to U.S. authorities to advance the investigation.

ICH monthly traffic surges past 1 billion minutes – Afriwave Telecom

Afriwave Telecom Ghana Limited has paid a courtesy call on the Vice President, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang extending its congratulations on her assumption of office and using the occasion to discuss key developments and challenges within Ghana’s telecommunications sector.

During the meeting, the Afriwave team briefed the Vice President on the operations and impact of the Interconnect Clearinghouse (ICH), which the company manages under license from the National Communications Authority (NCA).

Afriwave highlighted the ICH’s crucial role in ensuring seamless connectivity among all Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) in Ghana by enabling interconnection between their networks.

According to Afriwave’s Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Francis Poku, the ICH has significantly improved efficiency in the sector by managing billing data, reconciliation processes, and dispute resolution across networks.

Poku noted that all MNOs and licensed International Wholesale Carriers (IWCs) are linked through the ICH platform, helping streamline operations and reduce inconsistencies.

He said the national interconnect traffic has grown considerably from an average of 800 million minutes per month in 2016 to over 1 billion minutes per month as of the second quarter of 2025.

One key issue raised was the sharp decline in foreign exchange inflows from IWCs, which have dropped from about $20 million to under $1 million over the past five years.

Poku attributed this to pricing constraints imposed by MNOs and the growing popularity of internet-based calls such as WhatsApp, which bypass traditional voice networks.

He appealed to the Vice President for government intervention to help address financial and policy bottlenecks that threaten the sustainability of the ICH and Afriwave’s operations as a wholly Ghanaian-owned company.

In her response, Vice President Professor Opoku-Agyemang acknowledged the concerns raised and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting local businesses.

She assured Afriwave of the government’s intention to introduce policies that will enhance the growth of indigenous companies and enable regional expansion.

Afriwave Telecom Ghana Limited is the sole operator of Ghana’s Interconnect Clearinghouse, a centralised platform that facilitates interconnection between network providers and helps ensure transparency and accountability in the telecom ecosystem.

‘You will not enjoy that four-year deal’

0

Osimhen is a player of Galatasaray Osimhen is a player of Galatasaray

A Nigerian pastor has stirred online debate after issuing a spiritual warning to Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen following his record-breaking move to Galatasaray.

In a viral video, the pastor is seen cautioning the 26-year-old striker against his new adventure in Turkey, claiming the move is destined to fail.

“Osimhen, that four-year deal is failed. That four-year deal, you will not enjoy. Better have a rethink. Who give you that advice, Osimhen?,” he said.

The prophecy comes weeks after Galatasaray officially announced the permanent signing of Osimhen from Napoli in July 2025.

The Turkish champions paid a staggering €75 million for the Nigerian international, making him the most expensive incoming transfer in Turkish football history.

The deal smashed the previous Turkish record, set in 2024 when Fenerbahce signed Morocco’s Youssef En-Nesyri from Sevilla for €20 million.

Osimhen initially joined Galatasaray on loan for the 2024/25 season, after guiding Napoli to the Serie A title in the 2023/24 season.

His performances in Istanbul impressed the club enough to trigger a long-term commitment. He has now signed a four-year deal, with Napoli entitled to 10% of any future sale.

Despite the excitement among Galatasaray and Nigerian fans, the pastor’s comments have introduced an unsettling twist.

On social media, reactions have been mixed, some mocking the preacher, while others fear there could be more to his words.

Osimhen has yet to publicly respond to the prophecy.

GACL not liable for $64m Evatex contract termination – Amable

0

A financial lawyer, Jonathan Amable, says the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) cannot be held liable for terminating its contract with Evatex Logistics Limited.

His comments come in the wake of threats by Evatex to sue GACL for $64.6 million over the termination. The company has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the GACL to withdraw the termination notice or face legal action.

Under the terms of the contract, Evatex was entitled to 15% of any revenue it uncovered through its auditing services. However, GACL maintains that the company has not generated any revenue in the four months since it began operations.

Evatex insists it has invested $64.6 million in the contract and is demanding that GACL reverse the termination notice or risk a court battle to enforce its rights.

Jonathan Amable, Managing Partner at LNF Legal Advisors, shared his legal perspective on the issue.

“I’ve seen the letter from the Evatex lawyers; I think it is instructive that they did not call any provision within the contract to back their claim for damages,” he stated.

“If you compare that to the conduct of the GACL, you could see that they relied on clause 7(A), and unless there’s any other provision which will detract from the ability of the GACL to rely on clause (7A).”

Amable further explained, “Clause 7(A) gives them a perfect legal window to terminate simply by providing notice, and there will not be any liabilities even if certain monies have been invested.”

NIA-GRA feud needless and unhealthy – Importers and Exporters

0

The Executive Secretary of the Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana, Sampson Asaki Awingobit, has expressed deep concern over the ongoing standoff between the National Identification Authority (NIA) and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), describing it as “needless” and damaging to the economy.

The NIA recently disconnected the GRA from its Identity Verification Service (IVS) platform due to the latter’s failure to settle a debt of nearly GH₵376 million.

This decision has disrupted key processes within the import and export sector, as the Ghana Card — issued by the NIA — is now central to verifying the identities of importers and exporters.

Speaking on Citi Eyewitness News on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, Mr. Asaki said the fallout between the two state institutions is costing the country significant revenue and causing frustration within the business community.

“This is not a situation where a government agency is dealing with a private agency — these are two state institutions under the Ministries of Interior and Finance,” he noted. “I want to believe that these two ministries are in communication and working to resolve this issue.”

He warned that the disconnection is having direct consequences on import and export activities, as delays in verification mean goods cannot be cleared on time, which could lead to port congestion, demurrage fees, and overall losses to the state.

“This is a needless fight, unhealthy, and should not be entertained in this dispensation. I want to call on the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of the Interior to quickly summon their CEOs to resolve this,” he urged.

The NIA’s IVS system is critical for identity verification across government services, especially those linked to revenue mobilisation and trade.

Treat health as investment, not cost

0

President John Dramani Mahama has urged Ghana’s Ministry of Health and financial policymakers to shift their perspective on health from being a cost to a vital economic investment.

Speaking at the 2025 Africa Health Sovereignty Summit on Tuesday, August 5, President Mahama emphasised that investing in health is fundamental to achieving sustainable national development.

He argued that health should no longer be viewed as a drain on the economy but rather as a powerful engine of productivity and a pillar for inclusive growth.

“We are not merely reacting to emergencies; we are building systems that create jobs, reduce inequalities, and uphold the dignity of every Ghanaian, no matter where you are,” he stated. “Health is wealth, and we must reframe the economies of wellbeing.”

He further urged economists to revise how national accounts are calculated, advocating for the recognition of health as a productivity multiplier rather than a consumption expense.

According to him, such a shift is essential for mobilising long-term funding and fostering innovation within health systems.

The summit brought together health experts, policymakers, and development partners to explore ways of strengthening Africa’s health sovereignty and ensuring that investments in health translate into broader socio-economic transformation.

Organized labour DEMAND over 50% salary increase: negotiations end August 31st

0

Reliable information reaching Ghana Education News (GEN) indicates that organized labour representatives have suggested a 50% salary increase. The on going negotiations between Organized Labour and the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) is expected to be completed by the end of August.

However, the (FWSC) has called on organized labour to soften their stands and beat down their demand for at least 50% increase in wages and salaries for public sector workers.

NCD Alliance hails MahamaCares; urges safeguards against ‘unhealthy’ industries

0

The Ghana NCD Alliance, a coalition of civil society organisations and individuals living with non-communicable diseases, has warmly welcomed the recent passage of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, popularly known as ‘MahamaCares’.

In a statement issued today, August 5, the alliance commended the government’s “bold and timely intervention” but also raised critical concerns, calling for a comprehensive framework to limit the involvement of industries whose products contribute to NCDs.

The Ghana Medical Trust Fund Bill was passed by Parliament on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, and subsequently assented into law by President John Dramani Mahama.

The President’s personal donation of his six months’ salary as seed funding was hailed by the alliance as a “testament of the government’s commitment” and a “profound understanding of the urgency of the NCDs crisis”.

“We receive this bold and timely intervention with profound gratitude and renewed hope,” the statement read.

“Transforming from a party campaign manifesto promise to its official launch and the successful passage of the Trust Fund in Parliament… is a testament of the government commitment to reducing the catastrophic out-of-pocket expenses people living with NCDs and families face daily just to access treatment and care.”

The alliance noted that for too long, Ghanaians, especially the poor and vulnerable, have struggled with inadequate access to essential NCD services and limited financial protection.

The Ghana NCD Alliance also praised the appointment of Madam Obuobia Darko-Opoku as the administrator of the Fund, describing her role as a “pivotal responsibility that offers an opportunity to build a robust and sustainable mechanism for NCD care in Ghana.”

They urged her to adopt a multisectoral approach, collaborating with various ministries, agencies, civil society groups, and professional associations.

While expressing gratitude, the alliance raised two critical concerns regarding the new law:

  1. Limited Stakeholder Engagement: The alliance noted with concern the “limited stakeholder engagement” that preceded the fund’s passage. Citing the World Health Organization’s (WHO) framework, they stressed that “it is essential that patients, caregivers, civil society, and professional bodies are meaningfully engaged in every step, from policy formulation through to implementation and monitoring.”
  2. Risk of Industry Infiltration: The second and most significant concern was the open-ended provision in Clause 3 of the Bill for funding sources. The alliance warned that without “explicit safeguards, the Fund risks infiltration by industries whose products—such as tobacco, alcohol, and sugar-sweetened beverages—are known contributors to NCDs.”

The alliance stressed that allowing contributions from these “unhealthy commodity industries” would “create dangerous public health contradictions, legitimise these industries’ role in national health policy, undermine excise tax policies, and could also erode public trust in the Fund.”

Recommendations for a Sustainable Fund:

To ensure the fund’s sustainability and independence, the Ghana NCD Alliance proposed several recommendations:

  • Ring-fencing Excise Taxes: At least 50% of the excise tax revenues on products like tobacco, alcohol, and sugary drinks should be “ring-fenced to support the Funds.”
  • Increased Excise Taxes: The alliance called on the Ministry of Finance and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) to increase excise tax rates on these harmful products and to reject any industry lobbying for tax reductions.
  • Decentralization: They urged the government to strengthen the decentralization measures in the Act to ensure the fund “reaches those who really require the financial protection and support” in rural and underserved communities.
  • Comprehensive Care: The fund, they stated, must guarantee equitable access to NCD diagnostics, treatment, and care, and should integrate “psychosocial support systems and mental health services,” which are often neglected.

The alliance concluded by affirming Ghana’s exemplary leadership in the global response to NCDs, citing its active role in various international forums and its own national policies.

They believe the new Ghana Medical Trust Fund further cements the country’s position as a beacon in Africa and beyond, serving as a statement of Ghana’s commitment to achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3.4, which aims to reduce premature deaths from NCDs by one-third by 2030.

‘I’m not credited enough for Afrobeats, but my vision is bigger’

Fuse ODG is a UK-based Ghanaian music superstar play videoFuse ODG is a UK-based Ghanaian music superstar

UK-based Ghanaian music superstar Fuse ODG has opened up about whether he feels bothered by the lack of recognition for his immense contributions to the global Afrobeats movement.

In an exclusive interview with NY DJ on Y102.5FM, the musician, who recently released the Spirit of New Africa album in an honest and reflective response, admitted that, on a human level, the lack of due credit can be frustrating.

“A thousand percent. As a human being, everybody will be bothered that you’re not being recognized for the hard work and the foundation you put in place for everything to work,” he said.

However, he was quick to point out that his mission goes far beyond personal accolades.

“As someone who knows that he has a bigger purpose than what other human beings will say, you just have to get on with it because we are not done yet. Eventually, you’ll see who the real contributor is,” he added.

The multiple MOBO Award-winning artiste emphasized the importance of telling the African story truthfully and intentionally, revealing that he and his team are already taking deliberate steps to ensure history reflects his role accurately.

“Sometimes the biggest contributors don’t get their credit, but for me, the bigger purpose is that we want to take over the world with our music and also for the world to understand how powerful Africans are through the music,” he explained.

Fuse ODG, who played a pivotal role in popularizing Afrobeats internationally in the early 2010s, acknowledged that while he has been “one of the main contributors as to why Afrobeats is where it is today”, the credit has not matched his input.

Still, he remains unfazed, viewing the journey as a long-term mission rather than a quick race for recognition.

“It’s a marathon. Eventually, the world will get to know. You can’t get lost in a short-term false narrative. You have to focus on what your mission is,” he concluded.

Fuse ODG’s resilience and focus on the bigger picture highlight a broader truth in the entertainment industry, sometimes, the most significant contributors work quietly, allowing their impact to speak louder than any accolades.

Since the release of his debut album, Fuse ODG has been deliberate in telling the African story. His new album, Spirit of New Africa, is no different, with tracks such as 54 Countries, Sundiata and many others.

According to Fuse ODG, the purpose of the new album is for Africans to reclaim who they are.

“The main purpose of this new album is for us to reclaim who we are. Through the music, I want to remind our people how powerful we are. If we know how powerful we are, we will be able to use our energies to rebuild our countries,” he added.

Dr Johnson Asiama, Bank of Ghana Governor Dr Johnson Asiama, Bank of Ghana Governor

The Bank of Ghana has officially inaugurated the Bank of Ghana Chair in Finance and Economics at the University of Ghana, as part of efforts toward deepening collaboration between academia and economic policymaking.

Speaking at the inaugural event on August 5, 2025, Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Johnson Asiama, described the initiative as a strategic investment in Ghana’s “intellectual sovereignty and policy future.”

“The ability to share ideas with academia is not a luxury, it is a necessity. Because policy without intellect is blind, and theory without policy is sterile,” Dr Asiama said.

He added that the Chair would support cutting-edge research in areas such as inflation, exchange rate management, digital finance, and the regulation of virtual assets, challenges central to Ghana’s current monetary landscape.

Themed “From Cowries to Crypto,” the Governor’s speech traced Ghana’s monetary evolution and called for forward-looking financial policy in the digital era.

He cited Ghana’s leadership in piloting the e-Cedi and the forthcoming regulation of virtual asset providers as proof of the central bank’s commitment to innovation grounded in stability.

“Our job, as regulators, academics, and citizens, is to shape that evolution with wisdom… and ensure that the Ghana Cedi, whether in coin, note, or code, remains a symbol of national confidence,” he noted.

Dr Asiama also announced the launch of the Governor’s Future Leaders Fellowship, a new programme to identify and mentor high-performing economics and finance graduates for global training and national service.

The Chair is expected to be held by Professor Yegandi Imhotep Paul Alagidede, and will serve as a hub for scholarship, student mentorship, and policy development.

The Governor urged students not to “sit on the sidelines of national discourse,” but to actively engage in shaping Ghana’s economic transformation.

“A Betrayal of Public Trust’ – Former Minister Demands Forensic Audit into $30M Salaga Road Scandal

0

A former Deputy Upper West Regional Minister, Abu Kansangbata, has added his voice to the growing calls for a forensic audit into the $30 million Salaga Road contract signed during the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo administration as per reports from Ghana Web.

In a scathing statement, Kansangbata condemned the government for what he described as systemic corruption and mismanagement of public funds.

He questioned how a government could mishandle such a significant sum without following proper procurement procedures.

“This isn’t just poor governance; it’s a betrayal of the public trust,” he remarked, accusing institutions within the road sector of negligence and impunity.

Kansangbata also stressed the urgent need for reforms in governance, calling for sanctions against any public officials—whether political appointees, civil servants, or technical advisors who are found guilty of wrongdoing.

His concerns align with those of the current Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwame Agbodza, who called the $30 million contract “shocking and unjustifiable.”

Agbodza further alleged that the deal was driven by “deliberate negligence and personal interest, not national priority.”

He also emphasized that no amount of political maneuvering would stop the pursuit of justice for the taxpayers.

Civil society groups have rallied behind the call for a thorough audit, with many expressing concern over the lack of proper engineering oversight in the project.

Issues like missing drainage systems in the design have raised alarm among experts.

Kansangbata warned that failing to hold those responsible accountable would only erode public trust in democratic governance.

Richard Briandt installed as Asafoatse Dzahene IV of Osu

0

Richard Briandt, an IT professional and techpreneur, has been installed as Asafoatse Dzahene IV and inducted to the Osu Stool Council.

He is now known as Asafoatse Boni Nii Dzahene IV, representing the historic Briandt Family of Osu Blogodo in the Greater Accra Region.

The ceremony took place July 19, 2025, at Osu, in the presence of family elders and members of the Osu Stool Council.

Speaking after his enstoolment, Asafoatse Dzahene IV expressed commitment to fostering unity and serving the interest of the youth in the community.

“It is a deep honour to take up this mantle…I step into this role with humility, pride in my ancestry, and an unshakable belief that our traditions can power our future. I am here to serve—with culture in one hand, and innovation in the other,” he stated.

In his new role as Dzahene, Mr Briandt intends to lead youth empowerment efforts and other community-focused initiatives in his locality.

He is committed to supporting the Osu and Ga-Dangme community by promoting education and technology as powerful tools for progress.

His initial focus includes empowering young people with relevant digital skills to access global opportunities and improve employability and also aims to support efforts to document Ga-Dangme stories, language, and traditions using accessible technology.

By blending education with cultural pride, Dzahene IV believes the community can build a resilient and future-ready identity rooted in both heritage and innovation.

In addition to creating platforms for inclusive economic development, he plans to support boxing and football, revive traditional performances, and other cultural programmes to inspire pride and attract cultural tourism.

“This title or position is not just about carrying a sword—it is to carry a story, a duty, and a vision…I intend to write a new chapter, one where our youth have the skills to lead, the heritage to stand tall, and the opportunities to thrive,” he added.

Asafoatse Dzahene, is explained as a revered title in the Osu chieftaincy structure, symbolising both military and civic leadership within the Asafo (traditional military) system.

Mr. Briandt now joins a distinguished line of Asafoatsemei since the 1800s in his family who have defended and led the community with integrity and foresight.

Richard Briandt, is a former winner of the World Youth Summit Award for innovations in maternal health in Austria in 2011, and in 2014, he was named one of the Top 100 Innovators by Startup Chile, Latin America’s leading entrepreneurship accelerator.

The installation of Asafoatse Dzahene IV reawakens a lineage that dates back to the early 1700s, when Danish merchant, Ambiorn Christensen Brandt, settled on the Gold Coast and married into Ga royalty.

Over time, his descendants became known as the Briandt Family of Osu Blorgodo, custodians of the “Dzahene” title.

Notable predecessors include Dzahene I, Akwetey Blofo (Wilhelm Douglass Akwetey Briandt), a distinguished leader and the original bearer of the sacred ‘Tsi’ (sword of office).

Others are Dzahene II, Captain William Douglas Briandt, and Dzahene III, Edgar Briandt, who restored the lineage after years of caretaker stewardship.

Over the years, several respected individuals from within the broader family circle were asked to serve in caretaker roles, while a direct successor from the Briandt male line was being prepared.

The family’s broader legacy includes figures like Rev. Adolf Briandt, composer of Hymn 192 in the Presbyterian Hymnal; E.C. Briandt, first captain of Ghana’s Black Stars; and Julius Caesar Briandt, a 19th-century merchant and leader during the Ga resistance.

COPEC threatens legal action over 20% transport fare hike directive

0

The Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC) has threatened to take legal action against the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC) if it proceeds with the planned 20% increase in public transport fares on Friday, August 8, 2025.

COPEC argues that the fare adjustment lacks justification and could trigger arbitrary directives from other economic unions if not stopped. The group says it is closely monitoring the situation and may head to court to stop what it describes as an “unjustified burden” on Ghanaians.

Speaking on Citi Eyewitness News on Tuesday, August 5, COPEC’s Executive Secretary, Duncan Amoah, slammed the GRTCC for what he called a failure to consider the current economic mood of the country.

“We will be watching the scene by Friday, and if this pushes through, we will intervene in court because there is no justification for their directive,” he warned.

He also noted that even the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), a major operator, has distanced itself from the decision.

“The GRTCC is not reading the mood of the country. People are hoping for a decline in the general cost of goods and services. If this move is allowed to stand, every other economic body or union will also begin issuing directives to their membership,” he said.

The fare increase, announced by the Road Transport Operators, is expected to affect shared taxis, intra-city transport (trotro), long-distance services, and haulage vehicles.

The GRTCC has justified the move on three grounds: the failure of goods and services to respond to a previous 15% fare reduction in May, the recent GH¢1.00 per litre fuel levy leading to an 8% fuel price increase, and rising vehicle maintenance costs due to poor road conditions.

Adeleke travels to US for Davido’s wedding

0

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has travelled to the United States to attend the wedding ceremony of his nephew and music star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido.

Recall, Davido confirmed that he and his wife, Chioma Avril Rowland, will have their white wedding in Miami, Florida, in August 2025.

He made the announcement during an interview on The Breakfast Club, aired on Tuesday, April 8, 2025.

The governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, confirmed Adeleke’s trip in a statement issued on Tuesday, in response to concerns raised by the opposition All Progressives Congress over the governor’s whereabouts.

“Governor Adeleke left Nigeria for the United States via the family’s private jet a few days ago for the wedding of the global music icon, his beloved nephew, David Adeleke.

“His Excellency is extending an invitation to the opposition party to attend the event and share in the joy of the occasion with the Adeleke family.

“Those unable to attend may join virtually,” Rasheed stated.

He noted that Adeleke had not taken any official vacation since assuming office in November 2022 and said the current trip would be short.

“Additionally, from the November 2022 date, the governor has not gone on official vacation.

“For this current trip, the Governor has again chosen to make it a short one to continually attend to crucial state functions.

“Meanwhile, the Governor is in constant communication with his deputy, Prince Kola Adewusi, who is supervising activities of the government,” Rasheed added.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Osun APC had accused Adeleke of leaving the state without informing residents or formally transmitting power to his deputy. The party described the governor’s absence as “abnormal.”

In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Kola Olabisi, the party said, “The question being asked in hushed tones in some public places, inside commercial buses and by motorcycle riders and their passengers in the state, is where could be the whereabouts of their governor for this long.

“As the governor of all and sundry, we as a party need to know the whereabouts of the governor and who has been holding fort for him during his absence from the state since two weeks ago.

“Did the governor duly transmit power to his deputy who is constitutionally covered to temporarily step into the shoes of his principal in his absence?”

“A Gentleman Would’ve Been Behind Bars Till Now’

0

Titus Glover, former Greater Accra Regional Minister, has called on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to hold regular press briefings as a way of keeping the government accountable as per reports from Ghana Web.

In a recent interview, Glover emphasized the importance of the opposition engaging directly with Ghanaians through such platforms.

“It is our right, our constitutional duty to explain things to Ghanaians so they understand,” Glover remarked, revealing the responsibility of political leaders to ensure transparency and informed public discourse.

His comments come amid concerns over the treatment of officials from the previous government by state security agencies.

Glover highlighted specific cases where he believes more lenient approaches could have been taken, especially regarding bail conditions.

He pointed to an instance where a gentleman was required to provide landed property as part of his bail, suggesting that such stringent conditions were unnecessary.

“They asked a gentleman to bring landed properties. So, if he didn’t have it, he would’ve been behind bars till now,” he lamented.

This, according to Glover, reflects a broader issue of fairness in the judicial system that needs urgent attention.

He believes that the NPP, as a major political force, should take the initiative in ensuring that issues like these are brought to the forefront, through consistent communication with the public.

Why Ghana must remodify stadiums for long-term value

0

President John Dramani Mahama’s recent call for the construction of new sports stadiums across the six newly created regions and other underserved areas is, on the surface, a welcome policy.

It promises inclusivity and the expansion of Ghana’s sports infrastructure footprint. However, as promising as this vision is, it must be pursued with a strategic, value-driven lens — one that prioritises remodification of existing stadiums over cosmetic refurbishments, and insists on infrastructure that aligns with international best practices.

Lessons from the past: Ghost centres and forgotten dreams

Under the previous administration, a collaboration between the National Youth Authority and the National Sports Authority led to the construction of ten sports resource centres in towns such as Ho, Wa, Axim, Dormaa, Dunkwa-on-Offin, Kaneshie, Navrongo, Yendi and Nyinahin. These centres were intended to become hubs for sports development, counselling and entrepreneurship.

Today, however, many of these projects are either underutilised, incomplete, or abandoned altogether. The question remains: What has become of these centres and the promise they held? In their current state, these facilities have neither stimulated local economies nor developed sustainable sporting ecosystems.

If new infrastructure is to be meaningful, we must first conduct a surgical review and overhaul of our existing facilities.

Refurbishment vs Remodification: Business case for transformation

Ghana’s sports infrastructure cannot be globally competitive if we continue to apply surface-level fixes to deeply rooted structural and operational challenges. While refurbishment may offer short-term political wins, remodification is the only viable long-term investment. Here’s why:

1. Outdated structural designs

Most Ghanaian stadiums were built decades ago, based on now-obsolete engineering and architectural standards.

They fall short on basic requirements like emergency exits, roofing, seating layout, and drainage systems. As a 2021 FIFA report put it: “Several stadiums in Africa… require holistic redesigns to align with modern codes.”

2. Non-compliance with international standards

Ghana’s stadiums are not equipped with the facilities required by global sporting bodies such as CAF, FIFA, or the IOC. Key gaps include:

Inaccessible design for persons with disabilities Poor athlete and media zones Substandard medical and anti-doping areas

Weak security infrastructure

CAF’s 2023 report is clear: “Facilities that do not meet international regulations are ineligible to host global or continental tournaments.”

3. Technological Obsolescence

Modern stadiums are becoming digital hubs. Ghana’s facilities lag behind in offering:

Smart ticketing systems

High-speed Wi-Fi

LED scoreboards and VAR installations

A 2022 PwC Sports Outlook noted: “Without foundational upgrades, African stadiums will struggle to keep pace with global fan engagement trends.”

4. Sub-par fan experience

Today’s fans expect more than just a seat. Poor visibility, limited food and restroom facilities, uncomfortable seating, and congested walkways hurt the fan experience. A 2022 Deloitte report said: “Modern fans demand a holistic, immersive experience.”

5. Lack of commercial spaces

Globally, stadiums have evolved into year-round commercial assets, offering:

Hotels

Retail outlets

Event spaces

Fitness centres

Ghana’s stadiums are idle for most of the year, unable to monetise beyond match days. A 2023 KPMG advisory warned: “A stadium that cannot operate 365 days a year is a liability.”

6. No alignment with sustainability goals

Modern facilities incorporate green designs such as solar power, water recycling, and eco-friendly materials. Ghanaian stadiums are yet to make such transitions — putting us out of sync with global ESG trends.

7. Poor Emergency and Crowd Management

Many local stadiums lack:

Clearly marked evacuation routes

Fire suppression systems

Real-time crowd monitoring tools

In the age of heightened safety concerns, this is a glaring risk.

8. Limited Revenue Diversification

Remodified stadiums can be reconfigured to host concerts, exhibitions, conferences, and community events — unlocking new revenue streams. As per EY’s 2021 Sports Facilities Report: “Remodification allows for increased monetisation through diverse programming.”

Road ahead: Sustainability, Profitability and Prestige

Ghana has an opportunity to make a bold, forward-thinking investment — not just in sport, but in infrastructure that fuels local economies, creates jobs, and builds national pride. The remodification of our stadiums is not a luxury; it is a strategic necessity.

When done right, it could position Ghana as a preferred destination for continental and global sporting events, while ensuring that the facilities serve communities economically and socially throughout the year.

As the government prepares to add new stadiums, let us not forget to fix what is broken — and transform what we already have into engines of opportunity, not relics of missed potential.

Education Minister assures swift repairs after fire at Oyoko Methodist SHS

0

The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has pledged to ensure the speedy restoration and repair of the housemaster’s bungalow that was gutted by fire on Monday, August 4, at Oyoko Methodist Senior High School in the New Juaben North Municipality of the Eastern Region.

The fire, which began in the apartment of the housemaster adjoining the boys’ dormitory block, did not significantly affect the dormitories and caused no harm to students or other occupants of the bungalow.
As part of efforts to maintain calm on campus, the school’s Guidance and Counselling Unit engaged all students on Tuesday morning before academic activities commenced.
While in Koforidua for a meeting, the Education Minister, accompanied by the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, the Chief Director, his Special Advisor, and the Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Awatey, visited the school to inspect the extent of damage and assure students and staff of the government’s support.

Briefing the media after an engagement with the school’s management on Tuesday, August 5, the Eastern Regional Director of Education, Ivy Asantewaa Owusu, said the Minister has promised to restore all items lost in the fire to enable the affected housemaster, who is currently taking temporary shelter with the school’s Reverend Minister, to return and resume his duties.
“The authorities have assured the school that in no time, they will fix the place for the housemaster and also make sure that everything he has lost will be provided so he can continue with his work,” she stated.

She further called for calm and assured parents of their wards’ safety as management continues to liaise with the Ghana National Fire Service, which has begun investigations into the cause of the fire.

“Don’t Associate Manhyia with Personal Deals” – Palace Responds to Adom-Otchere Allegations

0

The Manhyia Palace has strongly refuted claims that it had any involvement in the recent release of media personality Paul Adom-Otchere from the custody of the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) as reported by Ghana Web.

The allegations surfaced after Adom-Otchere’s brief detention in connection with a controversial revenue assurance contract awarded during his tenure as Board Chairman of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL). Speculation suggested that the palace intervened to facilitate his release.

In an interview with Opemsuo Radio, an official from the palace, referred to only as “Prof,” clarified that any official statement on the matter would only come from specific palace authorities.

“As you know, Manhyia has a process for handling such matters. Any official communication must come from the Chief of Staff, the Otumfuo’s secretaries, or through the linguist,” he stated.

This response follows Adom-Otchere’s own remarks upon his release, where he thanked various individuals and institutions, including the palace.

He had implied that Manhyia had intervened by criticizing the original bail conditions and supporting his release.

Adom-Otchere was detained on July 31, 2025, over the GACL contract, which allegedly lacked proper procurement procedures.

The OSP has confirmed that investigations are ongoing into the matter.

Adom-Otchere was released the following day after revised bail conditions were approved, following a dispute over the initial bail terms, including the requirement for landed property as surety, which he argued he did not possess.

Ministry of Health to host Ghana Vaccine Manufacturing Forum

0

The Ministry of Health has announced that it will host the Ghana Vaccine Manufacturing Forum on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City in Accra.

According to a press statement issued on August 4, the forum is being organised in collaboration with the National Vaccine Institute (NVI) and the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC).

It will focus on mobilising sustainable financing to support vaccine development and manufacturing in Ghana.

The statement said the theme for the forum is “Mobilising Sustainable Financing to Accelerate Vaccine Development and Manufacturing in Ghana: The Role of Financing Institutions and Development Partners.”

The Ministry disclosed that the Special Guest of Honour will be His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, while the Minister for Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, will serve as the Guest of Honour.

The statement highlighted that the forum will bring together government agencies, financial institutions, investors, pharmaceutical manufacturers, development partners, and research institutions to explore innovative financing strategies to advance Ghana’s vaccine production goals.

It added that although Ghana has made progress in health regulation, research, and local pharmaceutical manufacturing, access to financing remains a major challenge.

The forum aims to attract investment to bridge the estimated US$2.5 billion funding gap required to establish a complete vaccine manufacturing ecosystem.

The Ministry noted that development partners such as GIZ and the World Bank have been supporting Ghana’s self-sufficiency drive in pharmaceutical and vaccine manufacturing since 2021.

It also mentioned that GIZ, on behalf of the German Development Ministry and the European Union, is implementing a programme called PharmaVax Ghana, which aligns with the goals of the National Vaccine Institute.

The statement further revealed that local pharmaceutical firms like Atlantic Lifesciences Ltd and DEK Vaccines Ltd have signed agreements with global partners for technology transfer and vaccine fill-and-finish operations in Ghana.

Key objectives of the forum, as outlined in the statement, include: facilitating dialogue among public and private sector stakeholders; exploring blended financing and Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs); identifying policy and regulatory measures to attract long-term investments; and generating concrete proposals and partnerships to support vaccine self-sufficiency.

The Ministry stated that the event will be held in a hybrid format to allow broad participation from both local and international stakeholders.

It concluded by encouraging all relevant stakeholders and development partners to take part in the discussions and help secure the financial resources needed to protect lives, drive innovation, and build a stronger, more resilient Ghana.

Kwabena Agyei Agyepong is the former General Secretary of the NPP Kwabena Agyei Agyepong is the former General Secretary of the NPP

Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, is set to take a significant step in his bid for the party’s 2028 presidential flagbearership as a group of passionate supporters prepare to pick up his nomination forms on his behalf on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

Sources close to the campaign have gathered that a group of committed volunteers has independently resolved to not only pick up the forms but also pay the initial GH¢100,000 nomination fee.

The volunteers, who prefer to remain anonymous for now, said that their decision stems from a firm belief that Ing. Agyepong is the only aspirant with the moral authority and vision to restore the dignity and soul of the NPP.

“This is our own small way of demonstrating trust and belief in a man whose integrity is beyond question,” one of them said. “We see in Ing. Kwabena Agyepong a leader who can bring honesty, discipline, and unity back to the NPP.”

Known for his principled stance and long-standing service to the party, Agyepong has been vocal about the need for a renewal of values within the NPP.

He has consistently advocated for humility, patriotism, and responsible leadership as essential pillars for national transformation.

Agyepong, who previously served as press secretary to President John Agyekum Kufuor and later as NPP general secretary, is widely respected for his unyielding commitment to party ideals and nation-building.

Political watchers say his entry into the race could significantly alter the dynamics of the upcoming contest, especially among grassroots delegates who are yearning for a shift from the status quo.

The picking of nomination forms by his supporters marks the beginning of what promises to be an engaging and potentially redefining campaign within the NPP.

Oppong Nkrumah criticises government over recent cocoa price adjustment

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah is Ofoase/Ayirebi MP and Ranking Member of Parliament's Economy Committee Kojo Oppong Nkrumah is Ofoase/Ayirebi MP and Ranking Member of Parliament’s Economy Committee

Member of Parliament for Ofoase/Ayirebi and Ranking Member on Parliament’s Economy Committee, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has accused the government of deceiving cocoa farmers with its recent announcement of a new producer price.

Speaking on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News on August 4, 2025, Oppong Nkrumah questioned the real benefit of the announced increase, arguing that the actual increment to farmers is minimal.

According to him, when converted into Ghana cedis, the rise amounts to just GH¢28 per bag, moving from GH¢3,100 to GH¢3,228.

Government recently announced a 62.58% increase in the dollar value of cocoa, raising it from $3,100 to $5,040 per tonne for the 2025/2026 season.

The pricing, approved by the Producer Price Review Committee (PPRC) chaired by Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, takes effect Thursday, August 7.

However, Oppong Nkrumah insisted that farmers are more concerned with the price per bag than global trade metrics.

“The cocoa farmer is not interested in the FOB price they came to quote. The farmer is only interested in the price of a bag of cocoa,” he said.

He further accused the ruling NDC government of breaking its own promises made while in opposition, reminding Ghanaians that the same party had once pledged to pay GH¢6,000 per tonne.

“If they had actually pegged the price at GH¢6,000 as promised, then today they would be announcing a reduction from GH¢6,000 to GH¢3,228. Does anybody believe this? That is hogwash,” he stated.

He described the situation as a scam, accusing authorities of manipulating figures to create a false sense of progress, while farmers see no meaningful improvement on the ground.

The six charges against Thomas Partey

0

Thomas Partey has been accused of rape Thomas Partey has been accused of rape

Thomas Partey appeared before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, where prosecutors formally presented six serious charges against him, including five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault involving three different women.

Partey, who is 32 years old, gave his name, date of birth, and address during the brief hearing but made no comment regarding the charges.

The former Arsenal and current Black Stars player was granted conditional bail ahead of a full hearing scheduled for September 2, 2025, at the Old Bailey in London.

Reading out the charges in court, prosecutor Jocelyn Ledward KC detailed a timeline of alleged incidents spanning from 2021 to 2022.

The first charge relates to an alleged anal rape involving Complainant 1, said to have occurred between April and May 2021.

According to the prosecution, the complainant and Partey were engaging in consensual vaginal intercourse when he allegedly penetrated her anus without her consent.

The matter was reported to police in February 2022, with Partey arrested and questioned in July that year.

A second charge involving the same complainant refers to a series of alleged anal rapes between April and June 2021.

The prosecution claims Partey assaulted her in this manner on at least four occasions without consent.

He later attended a voluntary interview regarding this allegation in November 2024.

The third and fourth charges involve a second woman. In December 2021, Partey is accused of vaginally raping Complainant 2 after she explicitly told him she did not want to have sex.

Despite her refusal, he is alleged to have proceeded with non-consensual intercourse. She reported the matter to police in February 2025, and Partey was interviewed in March of the same year.

In a separate incident with the same woman, the fourth charge alleges that in February 2022, Partey requested anal sex, which the woman declined.

Prosecutors claim he then penetrated her anally without her consent. This was reported in September 2022, though the charge was not addressed during Partey’s voluntary interview in March 2025.

The fifth charge relates to an incident that allegedly occurred in Marbella, Spain, in June 2022.

The prosecution alleges that Partey raped Complainant 2 vaginally during that trip. He was interviewed by police about this in July 2022.

The final charge involves Complainant 3 and is classified as sexual assault. In February 2022, the woman visited Partey at his residence.

It is alleged that he lay on top of her, attempted to kiss her, and touched her body over her clothes without consent.

The complainant reportedly attempted to push him off and he eventually stopped. Partey later took part in a voluntary interview in February 2023.

Following the reading of the charges, the court imposed bail conditions including a ban on contacting any of the complainants, a requirement to inform authorities of any change of address, and prior disclosure of any plans to travel.

Ayisha Modi claimed to be on the trip and witnessed the unfortunate incident.

The controversial self-styled music executive also claimed that Daddy Lumba performed traditional marital rites with Odo Broni, contrary to reports that they never officially married.

According to Captain Smart, he has never witnessed any ceremony involving Daddy Lumba and Odo Broni. He also established that he had never been to London with Daddy Lumba.

“I have never sat in a plane with Lumba to London or anywhere before. It’s a lie,” Captain Smart clarified.

Bernard Bediako begins campaign in Akwatia ahead of by-election

0

The Parliamentary Candidate-elect  for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the upcoming Akwatia Constituency by-election, Bernard Bediako Baidoo Esq., has officially launched his campaign ahead of the September 2 polls.

Mr. Baidoo, joined by constituency party leadership, including the Constituency Chairman and members of the Council of Elders, began his campaign with a courtesy visit to the residence of former Member of Parliament for the area, Henry Boakye Yiadom, popularly known as Okoyo. The move was part of efforts to reconcile differences, unify the party base, and court support from Okoyo and his followers.

According to party leadership, although Sunday’s primaries were a constitutionally mandated democratic process that allowed delegates to elect their preferred candidate, there may be a few aggrieved supporters who wished their candidates had won. As a result, the party is swiftly initiating reconciliation and strategic planning to ensure unity and boost its chances of reclaiming the seat from the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Former MP, Henry Boakye Yiadom, who had earlier pledged in an interview with Citi News to support whoever emerged victorious in the primaries, welcomed the NDC candidate and reiterated his commitment to working with all party faithful to help wrestle the seat from the NPP.

Citi News has also confirmed that efforts are underway to reach out to the other contender, Rasmus Koneh Ali, popularly known as Asanka Poyooyo and his supporters. Both Asanka Poyooyo and Okoyo are expected to play key leadership roles in the campaign of Bernard Bediako Baidoo Esq. as he prepares to face the NPP’s Solomon Kwame Asumadu on September 2, 2025.

‘Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu’s Attacks On Agyapong Linked To Vice-Presidential Hopes’ – Owusu Bempah

0

Ernest Owusu Bempah, Deputy National Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has sharply criticized former Suame MP, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, calling him the “worst legislator” in the party’s history as reported by Ghana Web.

Bempah, a known supporter of NPP flagbearer hopeful Kennedy Agyapong, made these comments in response to Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu’s recent remarks about “fancy talkers” within the party.

The former Majority Leader and Minister for Parliamentary Affairs had advised NPP delegates not to be swayed by rhetoric, which some have interpreted as a veiled jab at Agyapong.

Although Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu later clarified on JoyNews’ PM Express that his comments were not directed at Agyapong, the latter’s camp has since taken issue with the statement.

On Kumasi-based Oyerepa TV, Bempah claimed that Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu’s attacks on Agyapong stemmed from an alleged promise of the vice-presidential slot.

He also criticized Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu’s lack of grassroots support, asserting, “He has no popularity at the grassroots level of the party.”

Bempah further pointed out the NPP’s near loss of the Suame seat in 2016, emphasizing that it was the intervention of the NDC and Alban Bagbin that helped secure the victory.

Bempah contended that Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu had not contributed significantly to his constituency, adding, “If he’s even passing, nobody in the NPP would recognize him.”

GRA donates medical equipment to improve healthcare delivery in Aplaku

0

By Stanley Senya

Accra, Aug. 5, GNA – The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has donated medical equipment and supplies to Aplaku medical centre as part of its 2025 Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative aimed at improving healthcare delivery in under-resourced communities.

The donation, presented by the Accra West Area and Accra Collection of the GRA, includes a wide range of hospital and sanitation items such as a hospital bed, wheelchairs, stretchers, air conditioners, assorted medicines, digital thermometers, and hygiene products.

In total, 23 different items were donated, including 30 plastic chairs, 10 mattresses, medical tools like stethoscopes and oximeters, and large quantities of detergents and tissue supplies.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Mrs. Anna Marian Atua, Accra West Area Director of GRA, emphasized the importance of public health to national development.

She explained that the GRA’s focus on healthcare stemmed from its understanding that a healthy population was essential for economic productivity and, by extension, tax compliance.

“Because we collect taxes, we need people to be healthy and economically active in to contribute to national revenue,” she said.

“This year, our CSR efforts were directed at a deprived health facility, and after visiting Aplaku, we saw that the community hospital was in urgent need of support,” she added.

According to the Director, the initiative was made possible through the combined efforts of GRA management, staff, and the Customs Division, who all contributed towards purchasing the donated items.

The donation also featured products tailored to support the hospital’s maternity and emergency services, as well as general sanitation and infection control.

The director reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to community development beyond revenue collection.

“We are here not just as tax administrators, but as partners in national growth. This is our small way of ensuring that the people of Aplaku remain healthy, productive, and empowered to contribute to the economy,” she added.

This intervention, she noted, was expected to enhance healthcare delivery in the area, strengthen community trust, and ultimately feed back into the nation’s economic growth through improved wellbeing and tax contribution.
