“Don’t Associate Manhyia with Personal Deals” – Palace Responds to Adom-Otchere Allegations

The Manhyia Palace has strongly refuted claims that it had any involvement in the recent release of media personality Paul Adom-Otchere from the custody of the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) as reported by Ghana Web.

The allegations surfaced after Adom-Otchere’s brief detention in connection with a controversial revenue assurance contract awarded during his tenure as Board Chairman of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL). Speculation suggested that the palace intervened to facilitate his release.

In an interview with Opemsuo Radio, an official from the palace, referred to only as “Prof,” clarified that any official statement on the matter would only come from specific palace authorities.

“As you know, Manhyia has a process for handling such matters. Any official communication must come from the Chief of Staff, the Otumfuo’s secretaries, or through the linguist,” he stated.

This response follows Adom-Otchere’s own remarks upon his release, where he thanked various individuals and institutions, including the palace.

He had implied that Manhyia had intervened by criticizing the original bail conditions and supporting his release.

Adom-Otchere was detained on July 31, 2025, over the GACL contract, which allegedly lacked proper procurement procedures.

The OSP has confirmed that investigations are ongoing into the matter.

Adom-Otchere was released the following day after revised bail conditions were approved, following a dispute over the initial bail terms, including the requirement for landed property as surety, which he argued he did not possess.
