0

A group of brave and beautiful military women in Ghana have boldly come out to express their frustration over the lack of romantic interest from Ghanaian men. David Prah backs Adutwum as NPP’s hope for 2028

0

Former Eastern Regional Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), David Prah, has urged supporters of the various flagbearer hopefuls to engage in issue-based campaigning and refrain from personal attacks.

He also called for a ceasefire among supporters, stressing that campaigns based on tribalism and ethnicity will only cause harm to the party and lead to disunity.

Speaking on Burning Issues on Adom FM, hosted by Akua Boakyewaa Yiadom, the former Deputy Director of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) warned that insults and tribal politics could make it difficult for the party to unite behind one candidate after the primaries.

“After the contest, the party will have to campaign for one candidate who emerges as the flagbearer, and if supporters continue with insults, tribalism, and ethnic campaigning, it will be difficult to market that candidate to win power in 2028,” he stated.

Mr. Prah, who is supporting Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum to become the NPP’s flagbearer, described him as a unifier and transformational leader who, if elected, will unite the party and help recapture power from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the next general election.

“Even though Dr. Bawumia, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, and Kennedy Agyapong are all qualified to lead the NPP, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum stands tall among them. He is a unifier, hardworking, connected to the grassroots of the party, and has innovative ideas that can help turn the fortunes of this country around,” Mr. Prah said.

He also pointed to Dr. Adutwum’s impressive track record as Education Minister, which has earned him praise from many Ghanaians who are calling for him to lead the country.

“The world is moving at a fast pace, and we cannot continue doing things the same way. We need someone like Dr. Adutwum as President to bring his innovative ideas to bear for the benefit of the citizenry,” he concluded.

Man Drowns In River –

A MAN has drowned after a canoe he was propelling with a paddle to cross the Offin River at Achiase-Atumtuma in the Ashanti Region, suddenly capsized.

The deceased, who has since been identified by the police as Kwaku Ekow, was reportedly rescued by some Good Samaritans, but he had already given up the ghost.

A statement about the incident by the Nyinahin District Police, which falls under the Nkwawie Divisional Police, said the incident occurred at 1:30pm on June 19, 2025.

According to the police statement, which the DAILY GUIDE has sighted, “Kwaku Ekow, age unknown, was on board a canoe crossing the Offin River at Atumtuma.

“In the process, the canoe capsized, and he fell into the river and got drowned,” thereby putting Kwaku Ekow’s life in great danger at the time of the accident.

The police report indicated that a search party was quickly engaged to dive into the river and search for Kwaku Ekow, and he was shortly retrieved from the river dead.

The Unit Committee Chairman of Achiase-Atumtuma Electoral Area, Prince Barnie, reported to the Adobewura Police that “one Kwaku Ekow, aged unknown, was on board a canoe crossing the Offin River at Atumtuma.”

Having been informed about the incident, the police proceeded to the scene, and the body of the deceased, which had already been retrieved from the river, was seen lying at the bank of the river.

“The body was photographed and conveyed to the community mortuary, Nyinahin, for preservation and autopsy,” the police statement said, adding that investigations were ongoing.

WR NADMO Warehouse Looted – DailyGuide Network

Part of the looted warehouse

The Western Regional Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Daniel Darlington Atisio says he will take steps to replenish the organisation’s warehouse with essential relief items.

He claimed that the warehouse, which was once stocked with relief items for disaster victims, has been looted under suspicious circumstances.

He said, “NADMO is prepared to support disaster victims, even as investigations into the alleged theft continue.”

He mentioned the items allegedly stolen as sacks of rice, gallons of vegetable oil, plastic buckets, boxes of soap and some vital supplies meant to support flood victims across the Western Region.

This came to light when the Regional NADMO Director toured the facility to familiarise himself with operations.

He said the looting has left the Regional NADMO almost entirely depleted of edible stock, raising concerns about its capacity to respond to emergencies.

“I am reliably informed that in December 2024 prior to Christmas, the office realised that some relief items, including bags of rice and gallons of vegetable oil got missing from the warehouse.

“In the month of April, similar theft issues happened in the warehouse and in all instances there was not a force entry,” he disclosed.

“It is clear this was not the work of an outsider. Whoever took the items had keys to the warehouse.

“This is an inside job, and I am not going to take it lightly,” he pointed out.

Mr. Atisio indicated that the incident has been reported to the police.

“However, due to the unusual nature of the theft, I am calling for a forensic audit of the warehouse and NADMO’s internal operations,” he stated.

‘Former MMDCEs are a bunch of political prostitutes’ – Dr Asante Otchere

Dr Jonathan Asante Otchere is a political science lecturer at UCC Dr Jonathan Asante Otchere is a political science lecturer at UCC

Senior political science lecturer at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Dr Jonathan Asante Otchere, has slammed former Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) of New Patriotic Party (NPP) over the controversy surrounding their endorsement of flagbearer aspirants of the party.

According to the political scientist, the endorsements the former MMDCEs are giving to the various contenders for the NPP flagbearership position appear to be insincere.

Speaking to GHOne TV on June 24, 2025, Dr Asante Otchere remarked that the former chief executives appear to lack integrity because they endorse every candidate they meet.

“I do not see the former MMDCEs as people with integrity and principles; they’re a bunch of political prostitutes,” he said.

The criticism by the political science lecturer comes on the heels of claims and counterclaims that all the former MMDCEs are endorsing aspirants of the NPP presidential primaries, which is slated for January 31, 2026.

Several groups of the former MMDCEs have held press conferences either affirming or denying their endorsement of some of the contenders.

Meanwhile, some of the former MMDCEs have been captured singing the praises of all the contenders they have met.

Susu Company Agents Defraud Traders

0

A Savings and Loan entity popularly called ‘Susu’ company based in the Western Region has allegedly defrauded unsuspecting traders in the Shama district of hundreds of Ghana cedis.

The over 100 traders were from Abuesi, Aboadze, Dwomo, Nyankrom and Inchaban-, all in the Shama District of the Region.

According to information gathered the various sums of money collected from the affected traders as savings, cannot be accounted for by the agents of the savings and loans company.

A police investigation has established that the actual name of the alleged company is ‘Business for Home Susu Company’.

However, the name written at the back of the passbooks of the affected customers, is AKGMB Multilevel Business.

It was later revealed that the susu company had allegedly been operating without the necessary permits and licenses required for the business.

One of the victims, Madam Comfort Cudjoe, disclosed that some customers suspected the proprietor, identified as Michael Kojo Assan, of having squandered their investments.

This was after several efforts to retrieve their savings had failed

“Michael told us we should give  him sometime time to raise the money for payment, claiming that the money had been issued as credit to some other customers who are yet to pay back”,  Madam Comfort Cudjoe revealed.

She said Michael’s explanation did not go down well with the traders and suspected he might have absconded from the vicinity or squandered their savings.

She added that because they were afraid that they might lose their investments, they reported the case to the police at the Kojokrom Police Station and Michael was later arrested.

The Shama District Police Commander, Supt. Paul Ankan, who confirmed the story disclosed that responses offered by Michael to the Police during interrogation did not add up.

“He had informed the customers that he was only managing the branch in Shama District, not knowing he is actually the proprietor of that business”.

“He later explained that what he told the affected traders was his strategy for avoiding pressure from the customers,” the Commander pointed.

According to the Police, the suspect, Michael  Assan will soon be arraigned before court.

Telecel Ghana deepens ties with Enterprise clients in Ashanti Region

0

Telecel Ghana has stepped up direct engagement with key enterprise clients across the Ashanti Region to understand their evolving connectivity needs firsthand, strengthen existing relationships and outline plans to improve network reliability.

Led by members of the senior leadership team as part of the telco’s annual Ashanti Month celebrations this June, the visits were made to enterprise clients in education, healthcare, hospitality, manufacturing and finance sectors.

During the visit to the new production plant of DBS Industries in Kumasi – Nkoransa, a major manufacturer of roofing, concrete and steel structures, the Northern Regional Manager, Robert Lartey welcomed the Telecel Ghana team, shared the success stories of reliable connectivity for the business’ expansion and highlighted areas for improvement.

“Our business uses both mobile and postpaid connectivity and it helps with everything from production planning to customer orders. Our data connections are stronger here and that has helped with the expansion to this new plant. More connectivity improvements in other areas will strengthen our communication with other offices across the northern and southern sector of the business,” Mr. Lartey said.

Telecel Ghana’s Director of Technology, Ebenezer Siebu said the visit was organised to receive feedback from high-value clients like DBS Industries to guide the telco in aligning its connectivity services to support the client’s strategic growth.

“We appreciate your feedback and will continue to explore all available options for network optimisation to help improve overall service delivery at your manufacturing plants and offices.” Mr. Siebu said.

Director of Enterprise Business at Telecel Ghana, Tawa Bolarin, said that the annual ritual of senior leaders meeting face-to-face with decision-makers at client offices was vital to shaping connectivity solutions that fit their changing needs, especially as the Ashanti Region grows into a leading commercial hub.

“Our clients deserve a network and service experience that match their business strategies and ambitions. These visits allow us to hear their concerns directly and act swiftly to ensure our service keeps pace with their growth and the region’s commercial expansion,” said Ms. Bolarin.

The visits are part of a wider suite of activities marking Ashanti Month this June, including headlining the 68th Asantehene Open Golf Tournament, market activations, tech innovation exhibition, customer visits, community shop expansion, health outreaches, educational donations and greening Ghana initiatives all designed to strengthen sporting, economic, digital inclusion as well as health and wellbeing in the region.

Manasseh Warns NPP Against Selective Blame in Flagbearer Race

0

Ken BawumiaKen Bawumia
Ken Bawumia

Ghanaian journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni has cautioned the New Patriotic Party (NPP) against attributing the party’s governmental failures solely to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia during its internal presidential contest.

In a Facebook post, Awuni argued that while Bawumia was part of a “failed regime,” singling him out for blame is inconsistent when other key figures from the same administration are competing against him.

“Dr. Bawumia has been part of a failed regime,” Awuni wrote, directly quoting his post. “But… I will also explain why Bawumia’s failure in that regime is enough to disqualify his internal opponents if that failure were to form the basis for his rejection in the internal race,” he stated, attributing this argument to his forthcoming article.

Awuni asserted that Bawumia’s internal critics lack credibility. “You cannot pretend Bawumia was the only person in the Akufo-Addo government. If he failed, then all of them failed — and that includes those now claiming moral superiority to lead the party,” he wrote, sourcing this criticism directly to his Facebook commentary.

The journalist cited historical precedents of Ghanaian leaders who lost initial elections before winning power. “Kufuor lost in 1996 before winning in 2000. President Atta Mills lost twice before winning in 2008. President Akufo-Addo lost twice before winning in 2016. President Mahama lost twice before winning again in 2024,” Awuni noted, presenting these examples as part of his argument.

Awuni suggested Bawumia could unify the divided party. “At a period of heightened acrimony and division threatening the party’s chances at returning to power, the party needs a unifying figure. And I see that in Bawumia,” he wrote, directly attributing this assessment to his post.

He criticized the emphasis on financial resources in the contest. “I’ve heard that Bawumia has enough money to pump into the party. If the primary consideration for leading the NPP were money, then Chairman Wuntumi could as well be the NPP’s flagbearer,” Awuni stated, quoting his warning against reducing the selection to wealth.

Awuni concluded by reiterating his call for both major parties to prioritize strong candidates. “It is in the interest of the NDC that the NPP elect a bad candidate. And it is in the interest of the NPP that the NDC elect a bad candidate. However, it is in the interest of our democracy and the well-being of Ghanaians that both parties put their best foot forward,” he wrote, sourcing this principle to his Facebook commentary.

Ghana’s Fourth Republic, established in 1992, has maintained a competitive two-party system between the NPP and National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Maame Efua Houadjeto, has announced plans to build Ghana’s first ever amusement park in Cape Coast.

She made this known at the 2025 Ghana-China Business Summit held on June 23, 2025 where she shared new tourism initiatives aimed at making Ghana one of the best tourism destinations on the African continent.

According to her, the amusement park will be the first of its kind in Ghana and is expected to become a tourism attraction for the Central Region.

“We want to create the first Amusement park in Ghana, and we are looking at Cape Coast. We are looking to create the very first state of the art Amusement Park to add to our tourism destination,” she said.

In addition to the amusement park project, Maame Efua Houadjeto also called on both investors to support the development of eco-friendly lodges at some tourist sites.

“We also have the Kakum National Park, we have forest conservation going on there and so I would like people to support us when it comes to building some eco-lodges in that space,” she said.

She explained that discussions are already ongoing with some potential investors who have shown interest in supporting these eco-tourism projects.

“I am already talking to a few people who have shown interest, and putting together some eco-lodges in these places. We are looking at eco-lodges at Mole National Park, eco-lodges at the Kakum National Park,” she stated.

As part of efforts to improve tourism infrastructure, she also revealed that plans are in place to build new event centres in the Central Region and Accra to attract more events.

“We are also looking at expanding the space when it comes to event centres, we are looking at putting one together in Central Region and also putting one in Accra,” she added.

NIA workers declare indefinite strike over unpaid allowances

NIA workers declare indefinite strike over unpaid allowances NIA workers declare indefinite strike over unpaid allowances

Staff of the National Identification Authority (NIA), under the Public Services Workers’ Union (PSWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), has declared an indefinite strike from Tuesday, June 24, 2025, following unresolved issues surrounding the payment of their Operational Support Allowance.

The decision was announced in a statement issued on Monday, June 23, 2025, by the Divisional Executive Council of the Union as a final notice to the Ministry of Finance over delayed payment of allowances.

According to the Union, the strike has become necessary due to the ministry’s failure to provide a firm commitment and clear timelines for the resumption of payments of their allowance.

The Operational Support Allowance, which was agreed upon in July 2024 after extensive negotiations with the Ministry of Finance, the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, and the Union, was introduced to augment the relatively low basic salaries of NIA staff.

Payments began in August 2024 but were discontinued in January 2025 without any explanation.

Since then, Union members have continued working in anticipation of a resolution, relying on repeated assurances from NIA management that efforts were underway to restore the payments.

Management publicly reiterated these commitments at a press briefing on June 18, 2025, promising that the allowances would be paid “very, very soon.”

However, the Union says that after months of waiting, follow-ups, and engagements, the Ministry of Finance has failed to demonstrate any urgency or seriousness in addressing the matter.

It noted that members across the NIA’s Head Office, Regional Offices, Premium Centres, and District Offices are now facing severe financial and emotional strain.

“This industrial action should not be taken lightly. It reflects the deep frustration of staff who have endured this situation for far too long amidst persistent neglect,” the statement said.

The PSWU has consequently directed all its members within the NIA to withdraw their services indefinitely until the outstanding allowances are fully paid.

The Union also urged members to remain peaceful and law-abiding throughout the strike period.

While the Union has expressed willingness to return to the negotiation table, it insists that any dialogue must lead to the prompt and full payment of their agreed allowances.

Ghana’s inflation projected to drop to 16% in June 2025

0

IC Research is projecting Ghana's inflation to drop to 16% in June 2025 IC Research is projecting Ghana’s inflation to drop to 16% in June 2025

The latest IC Research report projects a sharp decline in inflation for June 2025 to 16%.

According to the report, the anticipated 240 basis points drop in year-on-year inflation is attributed to favorable foreign exchange dynamics, lower petroleum prices, and a marked reduction in transport fares.

“The June 2025 CPI data window recorded a 29.5% month-on-month and 35.3% year-on-year appreciation of the Ghanaian cedi against the US dollar. This exerted downward pressure on the prices of imported items, with notable declines in petroleum prices and transport fares. The announced 15.0% reduction in commercial transport fares will continue to restrain transport inflation, with downside spillovers for other items,” the report stated.

Meanwhile, the month-on-month inflation rate is expected to slow to 0.8%, supported by easing food price pressures, particularly in the vegetables and tubers category.

“We estimate that the lower transport cost likely eased the month-on-month pressure observed for vegetables and tubers last month, potentially sustaining food disinflation in June,” the report noted.

The June forecast marks the fifth consecutive month of disinflation, with a cumulative reduction in headline inflation reaching 540 basis points year-to-date.

This contrasts sharply with the marginal 10 basis points decline recorded during the same period in 2024.

The report further reveals that food inflation continued to decline, slowing by 220 basis points to 22.8% in May 2025, driven by a favorable base effect in the heavily weighted CPI for vegetables and tubers, which offset the uptick in fish and other seafood prices.

Inflation for vegetables and tubers fell sharply by 10.3 percentage points to 24.0% year-on-year, although the month-on-month rate surged to 2.4% due to the ongoing planting season.

How ‘Madiba Magic’ inspired Boks to 1995 World Cup glory

0

Three decades since some ‘Madiba Magic’ inspired South Africa to their seminal win over New Zealand in the 1995 Rugby World Cup final, a Springboks legend has predicted the side are on course for an unprecedented third straight title at the next tournament in Australia.

Standing 6ft 7in tall, Mark Andrews was one of the pillars of that World Cup success on 24 June 1995, but even he would admit it was the towering presence of statesman Nelson Mandela that loomed largest on the day.

“He was worth putting our bodies on the line for because of what he’d done,” said Andrews of the political prisoner turned South African President.

The final, played at Johannesburg’s Ellis Park, around 1,800m above sea level, was going to be about the survival of the fittest in the rarefied Highveld air.

The game was eventually settled in extra time by a drop goal from Springboks fly-half Joel Stransky, as the hosts edged it 15-12.

Years later, when speaking to All Blacks great Ian Jones, who also played in the final, Andrews recounted the theory that the fitter Springboks had outlasted the visitors.

Jones shook his head and told Andrews why he thought South Africa won: “‘You guys had 16 men on the field. You had Nelson Mandela.'”

The Madiba effect

Mandela had spent 27 years in prison but, after his release in 1990, he played a crucial role in ensuring a smooth transition from apartheid to democracy and was elected President in 1994.

His impact on the Springboks during the 1995 Rugby World Cup was immeasurable.

Mandela’s friendship with captain Francois Pienaar would later come to life in the 2009 film Invictus, which starred Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon as President and player respectively.

During the final, Madiba, the clan name by which he was affectionately known, wore the Springboks colours which had long been seen as a vestige of apartheid.

This gesture was a masterstroke as he sought to recast the emblem for all South Africans, sprinkling his charisma, known as ‘Madiba Magic’, on the momentous occasion.

“I think back to what Mandela did, how he united a country by wearing that green Springbok jersey – the jersey of his oppressors – into the stadium,” recalls Sean Fitzpatrick, who captained New Zealand in the final that day.

“I don’t think anyone else could have done what he did in terms of uniting a country.”

South Africa’s success resonated with a new generation of supporters, and on that historic day a young schoolboy by the name of Bryan Habana happened to attend his first ever game of rugby.

“Getting to experience the euphoria of the Springboks overcoming the incredibly talented All Blacks with rugby’s first global superstar in Jonah Lomu, and witnessing Nelson Mandela walk out there in that number six Springbok jersey lit a dream and an inspiration in a 12-year-old boy who’d never played the game of rugby before,” Habana reminisced.

Habana went on to lift the William Webb Ellis trophy in 2007 and, with his 15 tries across all tournaments, the winger sits alongside Lomu as the joint record holders for the most tries scored at Rugby World Cup finals.

“I get to tell everyone 1995 was a watershed moment in my life. For me 2007, winning the World Cup, was by far the pinnacle,” Habana said.

“But I honestly believe that 2019 was our proudest moment as a South African sporting country.”

Up until 2019, Chester Williams (1995), Habana and JP Pietersen (both 2007) were the only players classified as coloured, under South Africa’s apartheid-era racial laws, to feature for the Boks in a final.

Habana believes that the class of 2019 allowed the team to “speak to a community and a population of 60 million South Africans”.

That side, under Siya Kolisi’s captaincy, contained no fewer than six players of colour in the starting line-up and one more on the bench, showing that diversity can bring success.

The Springbok ‘must fall’

However, not everyone shares Habana’s sentiments.

Julius Malema, the leader of South Africa’s far-left opposition party, has described the Springbok emblem as “an apartheid symbol” which “represents white supremacists”.

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) commander-in-chief said “the springbok must fall” and that the national rugby team needs a new jersey, colours and name.

Last week the United Kingdom denied Malema a visa to enter the country, ruling he was “non conducive to the public good” and citing remarks he has made calling for violence against white South Africans.

Andrews believes that Mandela’s vision of unity is what the Springboks stand for, and suggests that politicians like Malema “are trying to marginalise and divide”.

“I don’t think they have what’s best for South Africa at heart,” the 53-year-old former number eight added.

“They have what’s best for them – to try and target and to make people angry and bitter.”

The EFF has been approached for comment.

Bidding for three in a row

The 1995 win set the tone for South African rugby and the country boasts a record four Rugby World Cup wins, including back-to-back triumphs in 2019 and 2023.

Mandela might not be around to be the 16th man, but under coach Rassie Erasmus it is South Africa’s powerful bench, nicknamed the ‘bomb squad’, which gives Andrews confidence that the Boks are on track for a hat-trick of titles in 2027.

“No other nation has two equally strong packs like we have,” he smiled.

“It gives us an unfair advantage because of our depth of talent in those positions. I mean, if we have it, use it.

“If Rassie balances experience and youth – where you have the experience to just guide that ship, and then you have youth that just brings that energy and drive – absolutely, yes, they can [win the title again].”

‘3 Faces of Jeffrey Nortey’ shines bright despite rains

0

IN a city where rain often brings life to a standstill, it was a pleasant surprise to see hundreds of Ghanaians defy the downpour that flooded some parts of Accra’s to throng the National Theatre on Saturday, June 14, for Jeffrey Nortey’s 3 Faces of Jeffrey Nortey.

The foyer of the National Theatre was lively with excited patrons who eagerly waited their turns to take photos and made their way into the auditorium long before the advertised 7:00 pm start time.

However, patrons had to sit for more than an hour for the event to kick off with comedian, ID James Brown warming the stage and setting the right mood for the night.

His hilarious self-critical humour was followed by Kwame Obed’s sidesplitting bit on African mothers and their dramatic flair and how Ewes are feared got patrons rolling with laughter.

Up and coming comedian, Noah Ash’s fresh jokes on dating Ewe women and  Kojo Pjay’s tales on the potholes and ‘pothills’  on the Tema Motorway’s; and inactive politicians had the crowd in stitches.

Nino GH and Khemikal also engaged in a banter of tribal jests about the Ga and Ewe communities, and Jeneral Ntatia wrapped up the segment with nostalgic stories of life in a Ga town and his ordeal campaigning for the now opposition New Patriotic Party(NPP). As comedian Parrot Mouth left the stage, the crowd anticipated the main man.

And instead of the expected entry of the person everyone has been waiting for, a deep baritone voice boomed from the back of the auditorium. And as everyone turned to see who owned that voice, Jeffrey Nortey’s on-screen confidant, Big Ghun,  emerged in the spotlight, welcoming his friend in lively Pidgin.

The curtains then parted, showing Jeffrey Nortey on stage, resplendent in a gleaming black suit sprinkled with glitter.

3 Faces of Jeffrey Nortey had Nortey’s versatility shinning through his three personalities: a spoken word artist, a traditional Ga priest, and The Dragon, a charismatic musician built through his social media skits.

The spoken word segment saw Nortey challenging Ghanaians to take responsibility for societal issues such as littering, climate change, and corruption.

His traditional Ga priest persona had the audience joining in to sing some well known Ga folk songs.Patrons sang along all the songs he raised, interspersing with some Ga jargons and folks, that got the audience excited.

It was a moment to savour the rich culture of the Ga people and Jeffrey proudly embodied his Ga roots on the night.

The Dragon character brought the house down with jama songs and rhythmic bars, which seemed to be the favourite for the dominant Gen-Z patrons in the auditorium. Nortey’s ability to blend comedy, poetry, music, and drama was great on the night.

It was not all about side-splitting jokes, the night also featured surprise performances by Jubed and Praye Tietia.

Praye Tietia was on point with his performance, taking patrons back to the early 2000s with hits such as Angelina, Shoddy, New Dance, Jacket and Ka Kyere Me.

As the crowd’s thunderous applause and response to Praye’s performance threatened to prolong the show beyond midnight, comedian Clemento Suarez wisely decided to wrap things up.

He thanked the enthusiastic patrons and bade them a good night at the event put together by Kasa Entertainment and Focus Afriq.

Bawumia deserves another chance to lead NPP – Political Analyst

0

Political analyst and Senior Lecturer at the University of Education, Winneba, Dr. Tutu Boahene, has called on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to offer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia a second opportunity to lead the party into the 2028 general elections.

Speaking on Adom TV’s Big Agenda, Dr. Boahene argued that historical trends favour second-time presidential contenders in Ghana.

“Ghana’s political history shows that many candidates win the presidency on their second attempt. The late President John Evans Atta Mills contested more than once before succeeding. The same applies to President John Mahama and former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo,” he noted.

His comments follow a recent endorsement of Dr. Bawumia by over 60 NPP MPs and 220 former Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), who pledged their support for his potential 2028 bid.

The former MMDCEs, who served under the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration between 2017 and 2024, promised to rally behind Dr. Bawumia with their votes, resources, and influence to help him secure the party’s leadership.

Dr. Boahene described the endorsement as significant, saying, “The support from the former MMDCEs clearly shows their confidence in Dr. Bawumia’s leadership. He has already contested for the flagbearer position, and giving him a second chance could yield results, just as it did for his predecessors.”

While acknowledging the credentials of other NPP aspirants, he stressed that Dr. Bawumia’s consistency and experience make him a compelling candidate for the party’s future.

“All the aspirants have potential, but giving Dr. Bawumia another chance could be what propels him to the presidency,” he added.

So far, three prominent figures have declared their intention to contest the NPP presidential primaries scheduled for January 31, 2026 — Abetifi MP and former Food and Agriculture Minister Dr. Bryan Acheampong, former Education Minister and Bosomtwe MP Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, and former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong.

Although Dr. Bawumia is yet to formally announce his candidacy, the growing support from party stakeholders signals increasing momentum behind his potential bid.

Eco Restore Launches Annual Tree Planting Month

Eco Restore, a leading reforestation and restorative social enterprise, which combines ancient sustainable practices with cutting-edge regenerative techniques to enhance soil health, restore biodiversity, and secure food security for future generations, has officially launched its annual tree planting month in Takorayiri, located in the North East Region.

The launch coincided with the celebration of World Environment Day (WED) on June 5, which this year focused on the theme “Beat Plastic Pollution”, which aligns with Eco Restore’s mission to restore ecosystems and promote sustainable land management.

The initiative is part of the Global Shea Landscape Emission Reduction Project (GSLERP), a five-year initiative that began last year. It is funded by the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and implemented by the Forestry Commission (FC) and the Global Shea Alliance (GSA), with technical support from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).

Eco Restore has partnered with Bunge, a major international shea processor, and their collaborator Agriterra as part of this initiative. The organisation aims to plant a total of 142,000 trees, including 100,000 shea trees and 42,000 non-shea trees, across 19 communities by 2025.

At the launch event, Eco Restore Director, Dr. Peter Lovett, announced that the organisation has successfully planted over a million trees in the past six years.

He emphasised the importance of cultivating more indigenous trees, particularly shea, noting their role in supporting reforestation, providing market value, and serving as a livelihood source for women.

Dr. Issahaku Zakaria, another Eco Restore Director, urged the public to refrain from activities that harm the environment and ecosystems. He encouraged everyone to plant more trees or replace those they cut down to prevent the risk of waking up to barren landscapes.

The chief of the Takorayiri community, Mba Takora Dinbahara Dabru, blessed the occasion with a symbolic tree planting exercise, joined by partners including ISODEC Coordinator Madam Agnes A. Gandaa, Madam Scholastica Atarah from the Centre for Ecological and Livelihood (CEAL), and Dr. Michael Barnor, officer-in-charge of the Bole sub-station of CRIG.

Ghana courts Chinese investors with 24-hour economy incentive

0

The Chief of Staff, Mr. Julius Debrah, has urged Chinese manufacturers to take advantage of Ghana’s 24-hour economy initiative, highlighting it as a major incentive for profitable investment.

Speaking at the opening of a Ghana-China business summit in Accra, Mr. Debrah described the initiative as a three-shift system designed to enhance productivity.

“The government, as part of our flagship programmes, is introducing what is commonly known as the 24-hour economy, which eventually gives you an expansion in your production capacity.

“Because instead of going to work for just eight hours, you have the opportunity to work for 24 hours with incentives given to you,” he said.

Under the theme “Synergising Opportunities: Strengthening the Ghana-China Relationship and Fostering a 24-Hour Economy,” the summit brought together Ghanaian and Chinese investors and businesses.

Mr. Debrah pledged government support to help Chinese businesses succeed, emphasizing Ghana’s readiness to welcome and encourage investment.

“When you invest in Ghana, you have the opportunity to export into the other West African countries — Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, Guinea,” he said, citing Ghana’s role as host of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat, proximity to Europe, strong airline connectivity, and two major ports as key strategic advantages.

He added that Chinese manufacturers who adopt the 24-hour economy model would benefit from tax incentives, a Time of Use (TOU) electricity tariff system with smart meters, and cheaper, more reliable power during off-peak hours.

Mr. Debrah identified key sectors ripe for investment, including petrochemicals, housing, electric vehicles, tourism, and agriculture.

He called for deeper collaboration between Ghana and China, noting the existing trade imbalance.

“As we speak, we have over 100 manufacturing entities owned by either the Chinese State government or the Chinese private sector. What that tells us is that Ghana is not a bad place to do business after all.”

In 2023, China exported goods worth US$3.7 billion to Ghana, while Ghana’s exports to China stood at US$1.8 billion.

Despite this imbalance, Mr. Debrah expressed optimism about the future, stating that more than 560 Chinese businesses have shown interest in operating in Ghana.

The week-long summit aims to generate ideas and broaden strategies to attract foreign direct investment (FDI), leveraging Chinese expertise and capital to enhance Ghana’s manufacturing base and reduce dependence on imports.

‘NPP flagbearer must have integrity, not just money’ – Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu

0

Former Majority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has asserted that wealth alone should not be a deciding factor in selecting a flagbearer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Speaking in an interview with 1957 News, and monitored by GhanaWeb on Tuesday, he made reference to the NPP’s Constitution, which stipulates that any individual aspiring to lead the party must be a member in good standing for at least four years.

“If you look at our party’s constitution, qualification for the position of the flagbearer or presidential candidate says you should have been in the party for at least four years and be in good standing. It means that maybe you’ve paid your dues and fulfilled other commitments.

“Beyond that, governance is not about somebody saying, ‘I have money to do this, I have money to do that.’ Because let’s face it, no single individual can finance the campaign of anybody,” he stated.

Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu argued that while financial contributions are important, it should not become a substitute for competence, character, and leadership qualities needed to lead a political party and a nation.

“You are looking at the competence of the person, the integrity, the character, and the ingenuity to lead. Wisdom and intelligence do not reside in one person alone,” he remarked.

His remarks come on the heels of recent statements by former Member of Parliament for Assin Central and flagbearer aspirant, Kennedy Agyapong, who has pledged to raise $7 million to support the party if it adopts a bottom-up approach in conducting its internal elections.

The NPP has scheduled its presidential primaries for Saturday, January 31, 2026.

Why Ghana’s finance minister is trending on social media

0

Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, Minister of Finance Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, Minister of Finance

The Minister of Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, has found himself at the center of social media debates, particularly on X, after the government once again failed to meet its treasury bill auction target.

On Monday, June 23, 2025, the government announced that it had missed its T-bill target for the fourth consecutive time.

According to data from the Bank of Ghana, the auction sought to raise GH¢4.551 billion but secured only GH¢3.379 billion, of which GH¢2.952 billion was accepted.

The consistent shortfalls have raised concerns among market watchers and the public.

However, financial analysts attribute the weak performance to shifting investor preferences. Many investors are reportedly moving towards Bank of Ghana bills, which currently offer a more attractive 27% yield, significantly higher than the national inflation rate of 18.4%.

This development has set social media ablaze, with the hashtag #AtoForson trending as users question the Finance Minister’s handling of the economy.

Some critics argue that the repeated auction misses signal waning investor confidence and are calling for clearer fiscal direction.

However, some netizens have defended the government, suggesting that the current strategy may be part of broader reforms aimed at reducing borrowing costs and repositioning the economy.

NPP MPs must remain neutral – Minority Leader, Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, Arthur Kennedy share views

0

The Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has advised members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) caucus in Parliament to remain neutral to foster a sense of unity among the rank and file after the party’s post-flagbearer elections on January 31, 2026.

He said as Members of Parliament (MPs), they were supposed to toe the middle ground, hold the party together, and not take sides openly.

“My view is that we should be very neutral in all this so that after the primary, we can bring all sides on board and be the advocate for peace,” the Minority Leader told the Daily Graphic in an exclusive interview.

We need unity

Sharing his perspective on the decision by some NPP MPs to support the flagbearer aspirants ahead of the party’s presidential primary scheduled for January 31, next year, Afenyo-Markin said: “If care is not taken, you, the MP yourself, becomes a target after the primary because somebody may not be happy the way you went about your campaign”.

“You may have your views alright, but it is important to remain neutral so that all candidates can reach out to you in difficulty, especially after the primaries because we need the unity of the party,” he said.

Time to show love

The Minority Leader postulated that NPP MPs, as well as supporters of the party, must also act with caution as the party was getting ready for the next presidential primary.

Mr Afenyo-Markin said if they supported any particular candidate, they must sell the brand of the candidate instead of insulting opponents.

“It does not help the good of democracy; what does your candidate stand for, his vision for the party and the country?” he said quizzically.

“To me, these are matters that matter, not the name-calling because in the world of politics, there is no perfect candidate,” the Minority Leader said.

He explained that in politics what mattered the most was the vision of a candidate as well as the group vision that “we will rally around and get into the elections”.

Asked what would be his advice for MPs who might decline to remain neutral, the Minority Leader persisted in entreating members of the caucus to exercise extreme caution in the manner they carried themselves.

“Be measured in your utterances so as to make it easy for post-primary reconciliation, where you yourselves will partake in. Because, definitely in post-election reconciliation, MPs will play a vital role,” he stated.

It is the time for us to show love and stay together,” Afenyo-Markin entreated.

“If you cannot adhere to my advice of being neutral and you want to show face, it is within your right, but be measured and put up a posture that will promote reconciliation,” the Leader of the Minority caucus added.

Guard against trust deficit

Using himself as an example, Mr Afenyo-Markin said he had personally restrained himself because he wanted to keep a good relationship with all flagbearer aspirants.

He said as a member of the NPP National Steering Committee and a member of the various organs of the party involved in decision-making, “if I am not seen to be neutral, I will suffer some trust deficit”.

The MP for Effutu also touted how being neutral in politics had allowed him to become a member of the Professor Mike Oquaye Committee that organised the party’s presidential primary in 2023.

“I was there in the committee because members trusted in our judgement of neutrality, and nobody objected to Prof. Oquaye being in charge of the presidential election committee.

“I was there and we received complaints and resolved every challenge that came and drew up the guidelines for elections,” he said, adding that “so, I would want to draw on that experience to continue to play same role again”.

As the Leader of the NPP Caucus in Parliament, Mr Afenyo-Markin added that his ultimate goal was for the party to win the next general election; therefore, “we in Parliament must do our work to demonstrate to the nation that the NPP is ready”.

“But to be ready means reforms as proposed and at delegates’ conference we will be able to firm up the direction we want to go by way of the kind of reforms we want,” he said.

Early presidential primary

On the issue of early flagbearer primary, the Minority Leader said the NPP constitution envisaged a situation where the party conducted early presidential contest while in opposition.

He, therefore, said he did not have any problem with the proposal by the Constitutional Review Committee, chaired by Frank Davies, and set up by National Council to push for early primary on January 31, next year.

Mr Afenyo-Markin said that notwithstanding, such a decision was subject to the annual delegates’ conference, made up of all the grassroots polling stations, constituency and regional executives, set for July 19, 2025, to confirm it.

“So, whatever the proposal may be, it would be sent to conference for confirmation,” he said.

Speed up internal organisation

Regarding the organisation of the NPP, the MP for Effutu said he was of the strong view that while the party desired to have an early presidential contest, the party should equally speed up its internal organisation.

He said the party should ensure that it organised all the internal structures to be ready for the flagbearer primary, “so that whoever wins can ride on the cohesion at the grassroots”.

Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu supports

For his part, the former MP for Suame in the Ashanti Region, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, who also served as the Majority Leader in the Eighth Parliament, defended the party’s decision to hold its presidential primary on January 31, 2026.

According to him, the National Council, the party’s highest decision-making body, has the authority to set the date, and the early election would promote peace within the party.

“NPP has done this before,” he said, and cited the 2012 example where the party elected its presidential candidate two years ahead of the election.

Mr Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu emphasised that the party’s constitution granted the National Council the power to make such decisions.

The party’s National Executive Committee and National Council made the decision to hold the presidential primary on January 31, 2026, after a crucial meeting on June 17, 2025.

Nominations for the primary are expected to open from December 2 to 6, 2025.

Arthur Kennedy disagrees

A member of the NPP, Dr Arthur Kennedy, expressed concern over the party’s decision to hold its presidential primary on January 31, 2026, to elect its flag bearer for the 2028 general election.

He said the party’s internal discourse had reached a boiling point, and the decision to pick a flag bearer at this time might be premature.

Dr Kennedy said this in an interview with the Daily Graphic.

“Traditionally, the NPP, at least since the time of B.J. Da Rocha, a founding member and first National Chairman, has always felt that right after a presidential election, there is the need for renewal of the mandate by all party executives, starting from the polling station all the way to the national level,” he explained.

He added that the tradition had been respected all the way to Peter Mac Manu’s tenure as the National Chairman.

Mandate

Dr Kennedy stressed that it was necessary for the party executives to first renew their mandate.

That, he said, was essential for the party’s growth and effectiveness.

The campaign manager for former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in 2008 questioned the timing of the flagbearer election, saying, “Why pick it in early 2026 when you could wait till mid-2027 or late 2027?”

“Election issues are not static. So, for example, the issues that are salient now may not be salient in 2028. So, most parties, out of pragmatism, wait until as close to the election as possible to pick their candidates,” he suggested.

He cited examples from other countries, such as the US, where parties often waited until close to the election to pick their candidates, allowing them to respond to changing electoral dynamics to buttress his point.

Dr Kennedy also stressed the importance of adopting a more democratic approach to the party’s primary elections, advocating a system where all party members could vote.

“The logical end of all this is letting everybody who is a party member to vote,” he said.

That would help prevent the buying of delegates and ensure the true voice of the party’s rank and file was heard, he added.

Constitution

The NPP constitution under Article 13(1)(1) provides that the date and venue for the election of the party’s Presidential Candidate shall be decided by the National Council of the party.

Article 13 (1) of the party’s Constitution says the election of the party’s Presidential Candidate shall be held not later than twenty-four (24) months from the date of the national election. The date and venue for the election shall be decided by the National Council, provided, however, that the National Council may, on appropriate occasion, vary the date.

Article 13 (2) says not later than six (6) months prior to the holding of the election, the General Secretary shall give notice inviting applications from members for nomination as the party’s candidate to contest for the office of President of the Republic.

Robert Beninn Calls For Entrepreneurial Mindset Shift

0

William Burckson

FOUNDER AND Chief Learning Strategist for Temple Advisory, Robert Beninn has called on individuals to renew their mindset on how they perceive entrepreneurship.

Speaking at the Enterprise and Employment Fair 2025 organized by Kingdom Expression Ministries Worldwide under the theme, “Rising Above: Building Resilience in Business and Career Development, “Mr. Beninn stated, “We’re all entrepreneurs, and for us to succeed, we need to begin to work each of us in our fields as entrepreneurs, not thinking of ourselves as people who are building careers, but as people who are bringing value to the workplace.”

Mr. Beninn emphasised that individuals have the power to redeem themselves and build their nation, urging them to think of their work as enterprises, creating value and generating rewards.

“We can’t wait for anybody to come redeem us; we can. We only have to change our mindset, build our entrepreneurial skills and abilities, and we can do this. If each one of us thinks of our society, the resources we have, the endowments that we have given by God, we can do a lot and redeem ourselves.”

President of Kingdom Expression Ministries Worldwide, William Burckson, speaking of the essence of the event stated that the church aims to raise men and women who will positively impact society by offering solutions, products, and services that uplift their communities.

He said the church’s approach to ministry involves training and developing individuals to serve society effectively. “To support this, specific platforms like the Enterprise and Employment Fair are organised with focuses on equipping individuals with the skills and knowledge needed to overcome obstacles.”

The Enterprise and Employment Fair features a workshop session and an exhibition of Ghana Made products. The workshop capacitates participants, helping them understand key concepts that enhance their effectiveness in their spaces. The exhibition showcases the work and ideas of some participants, demonstrating the impact of the training.

Odumodublvck and Blaqbonez clash online over who is the best rapper

0

Nigerian rappers Odumodublvck and Blaqbonez are locked in a heated online exchange over who truly reigns supreme in the rap game.

What began as a subtle verse in a newly released song has since escalated into a full-blown social media spat between the two artistes.

The tension started with the June 20, 2025 release of ‘Who Is Rapping’ by Nigerian rapper A-Q, which features Blaqbonez.

Though no names were explicitly mentioned, many listeners believed the track contained veiled shots at other rappers in the industry.

In hip-hop culture, such subliminal jabs are not uncommon and are often seen as part of the genre’s competitive spirit.

Shortly after the song dropped, Odumodublvck took to X, posting a series of cryptic but strongly worded messages that many interpreted as responses to the track and its featured artiste.

“Tell that old fool that Odumodu is really rapping,” he wrote.

In another post, he added: “Who vex smiggle?”, a reference seemingly aimed at mocking someone, likened by fans to Gollum from The Lord of the Rings.

He later tweeted: “A-FOOL”, a post fans took as a play on A-Q’s name, interpreting it as a direct insult.

Odumodublvck didn’t stop there. He continued posting indirect shots, including:

“There’s a rapper who made a deal they can’t get out of and is now trying to use my name to sell records.”

Although no name was mentioned, fans widely assumed it was a dig at Blaqbonez.

As the back-and-forth heated up, fans encouraged Odumodublvck to take the beef to the studio. But he dismissed the idea with: “Make Kendrick go dey battle Ace Hood.”

This was interpreted as him saying Blaqbonez is not on his level, likening any rap battle between them to a mismatch. “I no dey do rap beef with una,” he added, clarifying that he had no interest in engaging in a diss-track battle.

Blaqbonez subsequently enters the fray.

Rather than responding directly at first, Blaqbonez took a subtler approach.

He went on X to congratulate Olamide on his new album, praising the veteran rapper’s consistency and career longevity.

When a fan replied, expressing hope that Blaqbonez wouldn’t die soon, he took the opportunity to slide in a pointed remark: “Them say them go kill me, but I don record enough for 3 more albums. No fear, because rap actually hard for some people.”

This appeared to be a veiled response to Odumodublvck’s earlier comments.

Odumodublvck replied directly, referencing their 2024 collaboration ‘Technician’: “If rap hard for me, your last hit no go dey with me. I am everything you want to be, nigga.”

He implied that Blaqbonez’s last major hit was made possible through their collaboration.

Blaqbonez kept things cool, tweeting, “Been hot since I stepped into the game. Everlasting taker.”

Odumodublvck shot back, accusing Blaqbonez of relying on his record label to remain relevant, “You are not taking anything, nigga. You are using your label. Nobody book you for shows anymore. Me replying you is what you need for your career. And I’ll give you that, because you’ve got mouths to feed.”

Blaqbonez then challenged Odumodublvck to settle the matter musically rather than through tweets.

He accused Odumodublvck of complaining to event organisers and drew a comparison to Kendrick Lamar, implying that true rap legends take their battles to the mic, not social media.

“Enter studio & get tf out my mentions. This no be Twitter warfare. And stop calling the show industry crying about me. No be so Kendrick Lamar dey do. Hip-hop legacy,” he said.

But Odumodublvck remained firm in his stance, refusing to take the beef into the booth.

“You want to make it about studio. Na lie. We go meet again for street. You know the level. This is not a rap beef. Na me and you for this world,” he said.

Blaqbonez went quiet after that, not posting again on the issue.

Odumodu, however, continued to post more comments, though they weren’t as direct.

As for A-Q, he didn’t respond to Odumodublvck directly either, but he did share this message, which many believe is related to the situation.

“It’s funny how one verse can fxxk up the game,” A-Q added.

‘Insensitive, intolerant govt’ – Ntim Fordjour slams government over SWAT crackdown on teachers

0

Reverend John Ntim Fordjour is the Member of Parliament for Assin South Reverend John Ntim Fordjour is the Member of Parliament for Assin South

The Member of Parliament for Assin South and former Deputy Minister of Education, Reverend John Ntim Fordjour, has criticised government over the decision to deploy Police Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team to disperse teachers who were picketing at the Ghana Education Service (GES) headquarters on Monday, June 23, 2025.

In a post on his X account on June 24, 2025, Reverend Ntim Fordjour expressed his dismay at the incident, describing the government’s action as “insensitive and intolerant.”

He questioned the rationale behind using a SWAT team against teachers who were peacefully demanding their unpaid salaries, highlighting the humiliation the educators were subjected to because of the development.

“Under President Mahama, Police SWAT is called on unpaid teachers to heckle them out of Ghana Education Service HQ for simply demanding their lawful pay. What crime did they commit to face such humiliation? What happened to the dignity of teachers? Insensitive and intolerant govt,” Reverend Ntim Fordjour wrote.

The deployment of the SWAT team occurred during a protest by hundreds of trained teachers who have not received their salaries for the past 10 months.

The teachers had converged peacefully at the GES headquarters to demand urgent action from the government regarding their unpaid arrears, which they claim have made their lives unbearable.

Some of the teachers have been seen in viral videos lamenting the decision to chase them away with the police.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Education Service has announced that concrete steps are being taken to address the concerns of the newly posted teachers, but no specific timeline for resolution has been provided.

I had to choose between my job at NIB and my music career

0

Kofi Owusu Peprah is a Ghanaian gospel singer Kofi Owusu Peprah is a Ghanaian gospel singer

Gospel musician Kofi Owusu Peprah has revealed that he had to resign from the National Investigations Bureau (NIB) because the job clashed with his music career.

Speaking on Hitz FM’s Hitz Praise Zone with Nii Noi, the Big God hitmaker revealed that his exit from the bureau happened about four years ago.

According to him, he was issued a query by his superiors while he was live on air during a radio interview at Hitz FM, which led to his decision to resign.

“I have left the BNI for about four years. It is in the studio that I received my query letter. Yes, in this house. I came for an interview. It’s a broken record but this is the first time I am being explicit about it,” he stated.

Kofi Peprah explained that the ethics of the intelligence agency prohibit officers from engaging in music or similar public activities. After the query, he was given two options: either resign from his position or delete all his music content from platforms like YouTube and stop pursuing music altogether.

“I was given the opportunity to resign or quit everything relating to music, pull down all my YouTube stuff, you know. Those are the ethics: so I am saying this so that if you are in it and you wanna do music you know what you are getting yourself into,” he added.

Kofi Owusu Peprah is now focused fully on his music career. He is currently preparing for a gospel concert scheduled for 17th August 2025 at Cedar Mountain Chapel in Accra.

Ghana Education Service expected to resolve all issues of payment delays Ghana Education Service expected to resolve all issues of payment delays

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has stated that in an effort to address concerns of delayed payments to newly posted teachers, provisions have been made through the Ministry of Finance for the payment of their allowances in the 2025 budget.

In a press release dated Tuesday, June 24, 2025, the Public Relations Officer of GES, Daniel Fenyi, acknowledged the concerns raised by the aggrieved teachers and stated that efforts are underway to ensure the release of funds to facilitate their payments.

“We are pleased to confirm that the Ministry of Finance has made a budgetary provision for these teachers and others in the 2025 National Budget. We are optimistic that the necessary funds will be released soon to facilitate these payments,” portions of the statement read.

The state institution further indicated that it has established a committee comprising five representatives from the affected teacher groups, who will collaborate with the GES to expedite the resolution process and ensure that all concerns are thoroughly addressed.

“To fast-track the resolution process, a technical committee has been formed, including five representatives from the affected teachers. This committee is actively collaborating with GES Management and has already made significant progress,” the statement added.

The GES also bemoaned the frequent emergence of new groups with new leadership presenting grievances, stating that it hampers their ability to effectively track and address concerns.

Reiterating its commitment to resolving delays in the payment of allowances and issuance of IDs, the GES urged teacher groups to adopt a unified and coordinated representation, which it said would help streamline engagement processes and expedite the provision of solutions.

“While we are committed to resolving this issue, the GES appeals for coordinated, unified, and consistent representation from the teachers. The frequent emergence of new groups with shifting leadership makes it challenging to track concerns effectively and ensure progress. Consistent representation will greatly streamline our engagement process and accelerate solutions,” it added.

The statement follows a protest by a group of recently posted teachers from the 2022 batch of College of Education graduates, who gathered at the GES headquarters to demand the issuance of staff IDs and the payment of their salaries, which have been outstanding for ten months.

US Embassy urges visa applicants to apply personally US Embassy urges visa applicants to apply personally

The Consul General at the United States Embassy in Ghana, Elliot Fertik, has emphasised that visa applications can be completed independently, without the involvement of “agents” or “intermediaries,” by simply using the embassy’s official website.

According to him, anyone who promises to assist with a visa application for a fee is either lying or committing fraud.

He noted that relying on such consultants often contributes to the high rate of unsuccessful visa applications.

“I will say, in general, that the visa application process is something you can do by yourself. Visa fixers claim they have influence over the process and demand thousands of dollars, promising they can guarantee you a visa because they know someone inside the Embassy. Let me be clear, they are lying, and they are ripping you off. It is probably not legitimate,” Fertik was quoted by myjoyonline.com

He emphasised that personally applying through the embassy’s website reduces the risk of submitting incomplete or inaccurate documents, which often leads to visa denials.

Fertik urged applicants to carefully follow the instructions provided on the website and stressed the importance of obtaining accurate information directly from the U.S. Embassy’s official channels.

“You can complete the process on our website, and there are also phone numbers and email addresses available there for assistance if you encounter any difficulties,” he added.

Hearts of Oak struggle to strengthen squad due to transfer ban

Hearts of Oak's plans derailed by transfer ban by GFA due to failure to pay some money owed to NEU Hearts of Oak’s plans derailed by transfer ban by GFA due to failure to pay some money owed to NEU

Hearts of Oak’s rebuilding plans have been derailed by a transfer ban imposed by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) due to the club’s failure to pay $70,000 owed to New Edubiase United (NEU) for the transfer of Salim Adams.

This development has hindered their efforts to bolster the squad ahead of the new season.

The Phobians, determined to recover from a lackluster 2024/25 season, unveiled plans to overhaul their team. The club introduced a new recruitment team and appointed a new technical bench led by Mas-Ud Didi Dramani, with management optimistic about making significant strides to compete for top honors domestically and continentally.

The Ghana Football Association’s ruling, due to Hearts of Oak’s failure to pay the final installment of Salim Adams’ transfer fee, has resulted in a transfer ban, preventing the club from registering new players, both locally and internationally, and casting doubt on the club’s financial management and compliance with transfer rules.

According to club insiders, Hearts of Oak had identified several target players and were in advanced talks, but the transfer ban has put these plans on hold, dealing a significant blow to coach Mas-Ud Didi Dramani’s preparations for the upcoming season and potentially impacting the team’s competitiveness.

Hearts of Oak’s failure to quickly resolve the debt issue may cause them to miss out on key targets in the competitive transfer market, complicating their rebuilding plans and raising concerns about the club’s internal processes and financial management.

The club’s management must act fast to settle the debt and lift the transfer ban to avoid derailing their hopes for a successful season.

BoG followed due process in staff dismissals after probation review – Austin Gamey

0

Austin Gamey is a human resource consultant Austin Gamey is a human resource consultant

Human resource consultant Austin Gamey has weighed in on the Bank of Ghana’s recent staff terminations, stating that the central bank acted within the bounds of Ghanaian labour laws.

He explained that the law permits employers to hire new staff on a probationary basis for up to six months, during which their performance is closely evaluated.

According to Gamey, if a recruit fails to meet the organisation’s expectations, the employer has the right to terminate the appointment.

He noted that in such cases, employers are not necessarily required to provide lengthy notice periods, and in some instances, termination can occur without any notice at all.

“It’s standard practice for companies to let go of employees who don’t pass their probationary period, often with minimal notice, typically around two weeks, or even none,” Gamey is quoted to have said by JoyBusiness.

He emphasised, “You can even be asked to leave without notice. If someone completes their probation and the company cannot keep them, they can be let go with about two weeks’ notice or even none.”

His comments suggest that the Bank of Ghana’s decision to terminate the appointments of some staff recruited in December 2024 is consistent with established labour laws and practices in Ghana.

Women’s Development Bank critical to closing credit gap for female-led businesses

0

The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has stated that the establishment of a Women’s Development Bank is expected to help address longstanding credit access constraints facing women-led enterprises across sectors, including trade, agriculture and technology.

Delivering remarks on behalf of the Governor at the 2025 African Financial Inclusion Policy Initiative meetings on June 20, First Deputy Governor Dr. Zakari Mumuni stated that the move forms part of broader efforts to advance gender-inclusive financial policies.

“Beyond access, we are also committed to gender inclusive finance. In 2023, Ghana joined the African Development Bank’s AFAWA (Affirmative Finance Action for Women in Africa) initiative, supporting financial institutions to unlock credit for women entrepreneurs through risk sharing and technical assistance.

“Even more, under the leadership of His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama, Ghana is establishing a Women’s Development Bank with a seed capital of over GHȼ51 million allocated in the 2025 budget. This institution will directly address the persistent credit gap faced by women-led businesses, particularly in agriculture, trade, and tech areas. These initiatives reflect our belief that women’s financial inclusion is not a social obligation but a smart economic strategy,” Dr. Zakari Mumuni.

The establishment of the Women’s Development Bank was a key promise by President Mahama ahead of the 2024 elections.

It is a special-purpose bank run by women to support women-owned and women-led businesses with low-interest loans and other tailored financial services on very flexible terms. This is aimed at the economic empowerment of millions of Ghanaian women.

Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, during the 2025 Budget presentation, announced that the government has allocated GH¢51.3 million as seed fund for the establishment of the Women’s Development Bank.

Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture, John Dumelo, has emphasised the need for Ghana to transition from a consumption-driven economy to one centered on production in order to achieve greater national efficiency and long-term economic stability.

Speaking at the Ghana-China Business Summit in Accra on Monday, June 23, 2025, Dumelo underscored the importance of increasing agricultural productivity and value addition as key components of this shift.

“To feed our industries and to export is good, and adding value before we export is even better. But what we really need is efficiency, efficiency in maximising the use of the land we have. We must prioritize efficiency when it comes to agriculture,” he stated.

Dumelo noted that a production-focused economic model would drive job creation, support local businesses, and improve Ghana’s food security and export capabilities.

He also emphasised that the country’s economic resilience depends on building a strong foundation in agriculture and industrial production.

The Deputy Minister further called for innovative partnerships with technologically advanced countries, particularly China, to help modernise Ghana’s agricultural sector.

“That’s why it’s important to partner with countries like China to help us maximise the use of our land, especially in the transfer of technology. Even though our doors have been open for a long time, we are opening new doors now,” he explained.

Black Sherif’s team rejected GH¢300,000 payment – Organisers explain performance delay

Ghanaian musician Black Sherif Ghanaian musician Black Sherif

Organisers of the recently held Unifest concert at the Takoradi Mall Event Center, have explained the reasons behind the Black Sherif’s delayed performance that has since sparked discussions online.

It will be recalled that on June 22, 2025, Black Sherif became a trending topic on social media after fans pelted him with water in frustration over his late appearance on stage.

In a new development, event promoters have claimed that Black Sherif’s team rejected the agreed payment just an hour before his scheduled performance.

One of the organisers, Mutombo, explained during an interview that the artiste’s management initially agreed to a performance fee of GH¢300,000 but later demanded an additional GH¢50,000.

“We paid this guy GH¢300,000, and he refused to mount the stage. They were asking for an extra GH¢50,000, and for about an hour, they kept deliberating on this extra money,” he said.

Another organiser, YB, also spoke on YFM, offering further insight into the cause of the delay.

According to him, Black Sherif’s team raised concerns about the stage setup, claiming it did not meet their required standards.

“They have their standard, and the stage didn’t meet it. They made several complaints. I didn’t include production details in the contract, though. Still, the management wasn’t satisfied with the setup,” YB stated.

US Embassy in Ghana announces new student visa applicants policy US Embassy in Ghana announces new student visa applicants policy

The United States Embassy in Ghana has announced a new policy requiring student visa applicants to make their social media accounts public before attending their visa interviews.

According to Erik Fertik, the Consul General at the US Embassy in Accra, the updated requirement forms part of an enhanced vetting process targeting the online presence of applicants.

He shared this during an interview on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Monday, June 24, 2025 where he outlined the changes under the new policy.

“Under the new policy, we are engaged in enhanced vetting of the social media and online presence of all student visa applicants.

“That’s why we are telling student visa applicants that they must set their social media profiles to public before they come in for their interview,” he shared.

He added that while the social media screening process has always existed, this new approach places more emphasis on transparency and online behavior.

Fertik further stated that aside from the social media requirement, the visa application process remains largely unchanged.

Applicants will still be required to attend interviews and answer questions about their academic plans and financial preparedness.

The embassy’s new directive highlights the increasing role of digital activities in global visa processing and security screening procedures.

Kirsty Coventry becomes first female IOC President

Kirsty Coventry officially takes over as President of the International Olympic Committee Kirsty Coventry officially takes over as President of the International Olympic Committee

Former Zimbabwean swimming champion, Kirsty Coventry, has officially taken over as president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on Monday, June 23, 2025, in a historic ceremony held at the IOC headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Coventry begins her eight-year spell officially on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, as the most powerful sports administrator in the world, according to a report by gbcghanaonline.com on June 24.

She has also made history as the first woman and first African to be elected head of the Olympic ruling body.

In a symbolic handover, Thomas Bach passed the golden key of Olympic House to Kirsty Coventry, who pledged to enhance and expand the Olympic Games’ global reach.

Coventry hailed the Olympic Movement as a powerful force for inspiration, transformation, and hope, drawing from her own experience of chasing Olympic gold to now head the organisation.

Kirsty Coventry’s new role will see her focusing on the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, which faces hurdles like local protests and political tensions.

Her experience at Auburn University in the US is expected to help her navigate these challenges effectively.

Much of the discussion during campaigning focused on the IOC’s need for change in its marketing strategies, with several top Olympic sponsors having left in the past 12 months.

Coventry has long-standing ties with the United States, dating back to her time as a leading swimmer at Auburn University in Alabama.

Her experience with the US will prove useful ahead of LA 2028, as she has hinted that she seeks a meeting with President Donald Trump to discuss the Games.

Her unique background as an elite athlete and her status as the first female and African president bring diversity to the IOC’s leadership, aligning with the increasingly international and inclusive nature of the Olympic Movement.

As she embarks on her term, Coventry emphasised unity and innovation as keys to inspiring future generations and sustaining the Olympic legacy.

Uganda’s long-serving President Museveni to seek reelection, official says

Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni

Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni will seek reelection for another term in polls due early next year to extend his nearly four-decade rule, according to a senior official from the ruling party.

Although he was widely expected to run for office again, it is the first confirmation from his National Resistance Movement (NRM) party.

The Reuters Daily Briefing newsletter provides all the news you need to start your day. Sign up here.

Uganda will hold its general election in January, in which voters will also elect lawmakers.

Museveni, 80, has been in power since 1986 and is Africa’s fourth-longest-ruling leader. The ruling party has changed the constitution twice in the past to allow him to extend his rule.

In a video posted late on Monday by state broadcaster UBC on social media platform X, the chairperson of the ruling party’s electoral body, Tanga Odoi, said Museveni would pick up forms on June 28 to represent the party in the polls.

“The president … will pick up expression-of-interest forms for two positions, one for chairperson of the party and the other to contest if he is given the chance for presidential flag bearer,” Odoi said.

NRM and other political parties are at present vetting and clearing their candidate for the polls.

Museveni’s closest opponent will be pop star-turned-politician Bobi Wine, who came second in the last polls in 2021 and has already confirmed his intention to run in 2026.

Wine, whose real name is Robert Kyagulanyi, rejected the 2021 results, saying his victory had been stolen through ballot stuffing, intimidation by security forces, and other irregularities.

Rights activists and critics have long accused Museveni of using patronage and security forces to maintain his grip on power, but he has denied the accusations and says his long rule is due to popular support.

Agradaa Flaunts Her Kwahu Hotel, Takes Swipe at Empress Gifty

Agradaa has served Empress Gifty a shade after the latter ridiculed her inability to travel out of the country due to her legal issues

Empress Gifty said security authorities had confiscated her passport and dared her to prove her wrong

The controversial televangelist cheekily responded with a video of her properties

Ghanaian televangelist Evangelist Mama Pat, aka Agradaa, has showcased the current state of her huge property in Kwahu amid her fiery rivalry with Empress Gifty.

Agradaa’s opulent Love Palace is comprised of lavish apartments intended for commercial rental as upscale accommodations for tourists and affluent Ghanaians.

Reports indicate that the complex, with its chandeliers, imported furnishings, and luxurious amenities, makes Agradaa, who was once a traditional priestess, one of the richest women in the country.

Agradaa shared the video in reaction to Empress Gifty’s claim that the former couldn’t travel out of the country because of her legal issues.

Empress Gifty’s moments at the Kotoka International Airport and Europe sparked some interesting reactions on social media, with some people taking a dig at Agradaa.

Agradaa, peeved about Empress Gifty’s jab, established that having a property like hers in Kwahu was more valuable than flying abroad.

Earlier, YEN.com.gh reported that Agradaa had dragged Empress Gifty’s late mother, Agaga, into their fiery feud.

Nana Agradaa had claimed previously that Empress Gifty’s late mother, Stella Aba Annan, popularly known as Agaga, derived her moniker from her name “Agradaa”, which means thunder.

She told the singer that whenever she prayed to her mother’s spirit to come to her aid, she was rather summoning the spirit of Agradaa. Gifty clapped back and warned Nana Agradaa that continuing to provoke her would end badly, as she has the spirit of God on her side.

Gold Prices Decline May Erode Int’l Reserves – Fitch Solutions

0

A sharp decline in international gold prices following a return towards more conventional trade policies in the US and/or the resolution of major global geopolitical flashpoints would quickly erode the country’s international reserves, UK-based firm, Fitch Solutions, has warned.

It stated that the central bank would, in this scenario, struggle to maintain the cedi at current levels, leading to a renewed sell-off.

“This would keep inflation elevated, lead to a weakening in consumer and investor sentiment and prompt the central bank to keep interest rates higher for longer”, it stated in its downside risk forecast.

On the upside risk, it said a further appreciation of the cedi would bring inflation down more quickly than, “we currently project”.

This would support stronger private consumption and prompt the Bank of Ghana to ease monetary policy more rapidly, which would stimulate credit uptake.

Fitch further pointed out that the contribution of government consumption will be negative in 2025.

This is because the government pursues fiscal consolidation in line with Ghana’s International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme.

The report said a stronger exchange rate amid elevated gold prices will support the disinflation process, ease pressure on household budgets, and support consumer spending in the quarters ahead.

The Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA), in collaboration with the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), has successfully carried out a complex medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) operation involving a crew member aboard a supertanker navigating off the coast of Ghana.

The operation, which took place on June 5, 2025, highlights Ghana’s growing capability and commitment to international maritime safety standards.

According to the GMA, the National Search and Rescue (SAR) Centre, hosted by the Authority, received the distress call at 5:13 p.m. on June 4, 2025.

The vessel, a heavily laden supertanker en route to Spain, was located more than 100 nautical miles off the Ghanaian coast.

“In line with international search and rescue protocols, the GMA immediately activated an emergency response plan with the support of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority. The Ghana Navy was also placed on standby in case their intervention became necessary,” a statement signed by Issah Issahaku, Corporate Communications Officer for GMA read.

Due to the significant distance from shore, the rescue team maintained continuous communication with the vessel and successfully guided it towards a pre-agreed rendezvous point closer to the coast.

“A GPHA rescue vessel intercepted the tanker at the designated location and successfully evacuated the affected crew member, who was subsequently transported to receive the required medical attention,” the statement mentioned.

This marks the second joint MEDEVAC operation conducted by the GMA and GPHA within a short period. In November 2024, the two agencies successfully coordinated the evacuation of two critically ill passengers from the Italian cruise liner Costa Smeralda while it was transiting Ghanaian waters en route to Namibia.

“The successful evacuation of the 82-year-old and another passenger in November was a proud moment for Ghana. It demonstrated our readiness to respond swiftly to international SAR calls,” the statement noted.

The GMA emphasised that these operations reflect Ghana’s commitment to its international maritime obligations, particularly under the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC), which prioritises the welfare and safety of seafarers.

Minister for Transport, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, commended the joint efforts of the GMA and GPHA, praising their professionalism and timely response.

“These heroic efforts underscore the government’s commitment to enhancing Ghana’s search and rescue capabilities,” the sector minister stated.

“We will continue to support and strengthen collaboration among relevant ministries and agencies to ensure that Ghana’s maritime domain remains safe and responsive to emergencies,” he added.

Despite persistent challenges in national SAR capacity, both the GMA and GPHA have expressed satisfaction with the success of recent missions and reaffirmed their dedication to improving maritime safety within Ghana’s territorial waters.

“Our mission is clear; we will continue to prioritize the safety of all seafarers and provide swift responses to maritime emergencies in line with our global responsibilities,” the Authority assured.

The GMA called for continuous investment in Ghana’s SAR infrastructure and pledged to work closely with local and international partners to bolster the country’s readiness to manage emergencies at sea.
