A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communications Team, Kwesi Botchway Jnr, has declared the former Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as the most experienced and exposed candidate in the NPP’s flagbearer race, making him the party’s most prepared and marketable choice for the 2028 general elections.
Speaking on JoyNews’ The Pulse, Mr. Botchway stated that Dr Bawumia’s record of political consistency, national visibility, and grassroots engagement places him far ahead of other contenders in the internal contest.
“Dr Bawumia has participated in five consecutive general elections since 2008,” he said.
“He was the NPP’s Vice-Presidential candidate in 2008, 2012, 2016, and 2020. In 2024, he leads as the Presidential Candidate. That level of consistency is unmatched.”
He argued that this consistency is a key ingredient for political success, referencing the careers of Presidents John Evans Atta Mills and Nana Akufo-Addo, who both secured the presidency after multiple attempts.
“President Mills lost in 2004 and came back to win in 2008. President Akufo-Addo also won in 2016 after defeats in 2008 and 2012. These stories show that perseverance and consistency matter. Dr Bawumia is following that path.”
He highlighted Dr Bawumia’s extensive nationwide reach, describing him as one of the most visible politicians in Ghana today.
“He has toured this country more than 25 times some say close to 30. From Axim to Zebilla, he’s known everywhere. Even schoolchildren know his name.”
He also pointed out the gap in public presence between Dr Bawumia and other aspirants in the race.
“With all due respect, I don’t think any of the other candidates have even toured 100 constituencies. Dr Bawumia has done so consistently—and he’s done it with humility and results.”
Mr. Botchway concluded by emphasising that, in terms of political strength and electability, Dr Bawumia is in a league of his own.
“When it comes to national appeal, visibility, and proven leadership, no one else in this race comes close. Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is clearly the most prepared and electable candidate the NPP can present in 2028.”

Political Analyst Dr. Jonathan Asante Otchere has criticised the group of 220 former Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) for endorsing former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia after previously meeting New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful Kennedy Agyapong.
Speaking on Citi Eyewitness News on Monday, June 23, Dr. Asante Okyere questioned the group’s political integrity, arguing that it was inappropriate for them to meet Agyapong only to later throw their support behind his rival.
He contended that the move reflects a lack of principle in political engagement and warned that such actions could come back to haunt the group should the political dynamics shift in Agyapong’s favour.
“Inasmuch as they have the right to do so, if I were them, I wouldn’t have honoured the invitation of Mr Kennedy Agyapong in the first place if they knew that Dr Bawumia was the person they were going to endorse,” he said.
“With this particular shift, what this means is that, tomorrow, if Kennedy Agyapong win, if you have someone who is politically vindictive, he is going to side-step all these people, he doesn’t care what will happen to his campaign. We need to do politics of principle. If it is Dr Bawumia, go all out and endorse him.”
The comments come after the former MMDCEs formally endorsed Dr. Bawumia to lead the NPP into the 2028 general elections, following a closed-door meeting—despite previously honouring an invitation from Kennedy Agyapong.

Keta, (V/R), June 23, GNA – The Scripture Union (S.U.) of the Keta Senior High Technical School (KETASCO) in the Keta Municipal, has made a donation to the Good Samaritan Home in Adidome, a foster home for orphaned and vulnerable children.
The donation was aimed to promote compassion and social responsibility among students.
The union, led by its executives and patrons, donated assorted items, including foodstuffs, clothing, toiletries, bottled water, and soft drinks to support the daily upkeep of the home.
The donation also aimed to reaffirm the Union’s commitment to social impact and Christian charity beyond the school community.
Master Emmanuel Armah, President of the KETASCO Scripture Union, told GNA the gesture reflected the group’s belief in investing in the potential of every child, regardless of their background.
“The children at Good Samaritan Home are not just recipients of our generosity; they are our brothers and sisters, the future leaders, innovators, and changemakers of our world. By supporting them, we are not just contributing to a better society and upholding the Christian values of love and service, but also pulling them along to develop with us,” Master Armah said.
The Good Samaritan Home, which also runs vocational training programmes in carpentry, dressmaking; and agriculture, continues to face financial and logistical challenges in maintaining its educational and caregiving efforts, a situation that necessitated the benevolent action by the students of KETASCO.
Reverend Father Mark Ekpo, Head of the Good Samaritan Home, applauded the students and staff for their generosity and called on well-meaning individuals and organisations to also support the home to sustain it.
“It is heartwarming to see young students take up the mantle of giving. However, this Home needs consistent support from stakeholders to provide holistic care and skill-based education to these children,” he remarked.
Mr. Prosper Agbagli, Patron of KETASCO SU, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, commended the initiative and expressed pride in the leadership and benevolence displayed by the Union. He assured that the school’s administration would continue to support initiatives that develop students morally, spiritually, and socially.
He also expressed gratitude to all contributors and reaffirmed their commitment to returning for future outreach activities.
The group described the donation as just the beginning of a long-term relationship with the home.
“This is not a one-time act of kindness. We look forward to continuing our support and mobilising more people to extend love to those who need it most,” Mr. Agbagli said
The visit was part of a broader vision by the Union to promote a culture of service among the youth, echoing the belief that change begins with simple acts of kindness.
The Good Samaritan Home is a sanctuary for persons with intellectual disabilities aimed at providing holistic education towards human dignity.
The collaboration represents a major milestone for Drela

The collaboration represents a major milestone for Drela, marking his biggest crossover moment to date, as he steps into the continental spotlight alongside one of Africa’s most consistent musical exports.
For Stonebwoy, “DEM DEAD” continues his well-documented commitment to amplifying emerging talents across Africa, proving once again why he remains a dynamic force in global music.

Former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Adentan, Ebenezer Doku, has dismissed claims that New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential hopeful, Kennedy Agyapong, was endorsed by 220 former Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) who served under the NPP between 2017 and 2024.
Addressing the media on Monday, June 23, 2025, Doku clarified that the meeting involving the former MMDCEs was convened by Kennedy Agyapong and did not result in any formal endorsement.
“He called us; we didn’t go to Ken. He invited us to meet him, and he gave us his message. Other speakers also spoke at the meeting. He was cordial with us, we all met, wined, dined, and then left. There was no endorsement as is being claimed today.”
“We did not tell him we would give him our support. The fact that we did not respond should tell you we have a candidate we are supporting,” he emphasised.
The former MMDCEs have since publicly declared their support for former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to lead the NPP into the 2028 general elections, ahead of the party’s presidential primaries scheduled for January 31, 2026.

Edmond Kombat is the Acting Managing Director of Tema Oil Refinery
The Tema Oil Refinery’s (TOR) debt has surged to $517 million as of December 2024, largely due to operational liabilities and government accounting changes.
The state-owned refinery’s Acting Managing Director, Edmond Kombat, said the debt includes trade obligations and unpaid crude oil supplies.
Also, some grants from the Ministry of Finance were reclassified as debt as part of the government’s IMF agreement, contributing to the increased liabilities.
He noted that verification process is underway to confirm the debt amount, which will be publicly disclosed once completed.
“We are doing that verification, and as I mentioned, once we do that verification and authentication of what we have been able to bring down, that will be communicated publicly,” he said.
TOR’s management is working to rectify the situation, prevent future occurrences, and restore the refinery’s operations, with plans to resume full operations by October 2025 after a prolonged shutdown due to crude supply issues

Roy Keane has got his kids’ names tattooed on his right arm
Roy Keane has once again set social media ablaze, and this time, it’s not because of a fiery post-match rant or a heated punditry moment.
Instead, the former Manchester United captain has gone viral for a brutally honest admission about his tattoos and his wife.
In a quote shared by renowned football journalist Fabrizio Romano on his social media platforms, Keane revealed the sentimental reasoning behind the tattoos on his right arm, while delivering a trademark dose of bluntness.
“I’ve got my kids tattooed on my right arm: Shannon, Caragh, Aidan and Leah. My wife did ask me why I didn’t get hers, and I said ‘They’ll always be my kids but you won’t necessarily always be my wife,’ which she wasn’t too pleased about,” Keane said.
The admission, both hilarious and savage, has been making waves online, with fans and pundits alike reacting in equal parts amusement and disbelief.
Many noted that it’s classic Roy Keane, unfiltered, brutally honest, and unintentionally funny.
Keane, known for his no-nonsense personality on and off the pitch, has rarely shied away from sharing his personal opinions, even when they might stir controversy.

The Accra High Court has granted an order for substituted service in the ongoing legal battle between Alabaster Box and Ghanaian rapper Samuel Adu Frimpong, popularly known as Medikal.
According to court documents certified on June 12, 2025, by the Registrar of the High Court, the ruling was made following a motion filed by Alabaster Box on May 26, 2025. The plaintiff alleges that efforts to serve Medikal with a Writ of Summons and Statement of Claim through traditional means had been unsuccessful, prompting a request for alternative service methods.
Justice John Bosco Nabarese, presiding over the General Jurisdiction (4) division of the High Court, ruled in favour of the substituted service, allowing the plaintiff to notify the defendant using the following methods:
Posting a copy of the writ and statement of claim on the High Court Notice Board at the Law Court Complex in Accra.
Delivering copies via Medikal’s verified social media platforms, specifically Facebook (Medikal), Instagram (@amgmedikal), and X (@AmgMedikal).
Sending a copy to the defendant’s manager, Kofi Jam, via his registered WhatsApp contact.
The substituted service is to remain in effect for a period of 21 days, according to the court’s directive.
Ghanaian a cappella group Alabaster Box sued rapper Medikal in April 2025, accusing him of using portions of their song Akwaaba without permission.
According to the group, Medikal’s Welcome to Africa lifts the first 10 seconds from their track Akwaaba, with its title and verses bearing striking similarities to their original work.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has reiterated its firm call for a rerun of the parliamentary elections in Ablekuma North, rejecting what it describes as an unlawful and unprocedural reliance on scanned pink sheets in the collation of results.
Mahdi Gibril, the party’s Deputy Director of Elections and IT, insisted that due process must prevail, not just for the sake of the constituency but to preserve the integrity of Ghana’s democratic framework.
Hairstyles are more than just a fashion statement—they’re a powerful expression of identity, confidence, and lifestyle. Whether you’re ready to try something bold or refine a classic favorite, your hair tells a story about who you are. From timeless cuts to trending styles, here’s a guide to the best hairstyles for both men and women that are making waves in 2025.
Women’s Hairstyles: Versatile, Stylish, and Empowering
Women’s hairstyles offer a world of creative possibilities—from chic cuts to natural textures. One timeless option is the bob cut, which remains a go-to for elegance and simplicity. For a modern flair, opt for variations like the asymmetrical bob or the blunt bob, both perfect for a sleek, professional appearance.
If you prefer longer hair, layered styles are ideal for adding volume, movement, and face-framing definition. Layers work beautifully with straight, wavy, or curly textures. For a bold and daring transformation, the pixie cut stands out—especially when styled with subtle highlights or edgy undercuts, projecting confidence and charm.
Natural and textured hair continues to shine in 2025. Styles like the curly afro, twist-outs, and braid-outs highlight the beauty of curls and coils. Protective hairstyles such as box braids, cornrows, and Fulani braids not only showcase African heritage but also offer low-maintenance versatility and style.
Men’s Hairstyles: Modern, Masculine, and Expressive
Men’s grooming has evolved, and hairstyles are no longer just about function—they’re fashion-forward and expressive. The ever-popular fade cut, especially the high fade and skin fade, delivers a clean, sharp look. Paired with a pompadour or quiff, it creates a bold, polished finish that suits nearly any face shape.
For men who prefer a more laid-back vibe, the textured crop or messy fringe is a solid choice. These styles embrace natural hair texture and are easy to maintain—perfect for the man on the go.
Longer hairstyles for men are also trending. Think shoulder-length waves, man buns, or undercuts, offering a fresh and confident alternative to traditional short cuts.
Final Thoughts
Your hairstyle is more than just hair—it’s a reflection of your individuality. Whether you’re opting for a trendy update or sticking to a timeless classic, the most important thing is to choose a look that fits your lifestyle, enhances your features, and makes you feel authentically you. In 2025, both men and women are embracing diversity in hair, from natural textures to edgy designs, proving that style truly starts at the top.
The streets of Cantonments came alive with colour, rhythm, and unity as the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) and the African American Association of Ghana (AAAG) marked Juneteenth with a vibrant parade and cultural celebration.
The event began at the W.E.B. DuBois Centre—opposite the U.S. Embassy—and ended at the GTA headquarters, drawing scores of participants from both Ghana and the African Diaspora.
Juneteenth commemorates the 1865 emancipation of enslaved African Americans, and this year’s celebration in Accra went beyond remembrance—blending festivity with a strong call for reconnection between Ghanaians and the global Black community.
“In 1863, President Lincoln announced the freedom of slaves in the southern states, but they didn’t know for two years due to the lack of communication. Union soldiers brought the news in 1865, ending their bondage,” Maurice Cheetham, Vice President of AAAG said.
Highlighting the shared legacy between Africans and African Americans, Cheetham added, “Our history is your history. We’re celebrating our tradition, which is your tradition.”
Cheetham also highlighted AAAG’s broader community impact, citing projects like a newly established school near L’Enchant, the African STEM Academy, and educational programmes at Basics International in Chorkor.
He warned, however, about the growing omission of Black history in the United States. “Slavery is being taken out of books. If we don’t discuss this, our history fades,” he said. He called for greater collaboration with Ghanaians, inviting deeper participation in AAAG’s mission.
The Ghana Tourism Authority threw its full weight behind the celebration—providing stage and sound support, media visibility, and staff participation in the parade.
In a statement delivered by the GTA’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Bright Asempa Tsadidey, on behalf of CEO Maame Efua Houadjeto, the Authority reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to Pan-African unity, saying “Your presence reaffirms that the ties that bind us are unbreakable.”
“Juneteenth is a call to reflection, unity, and forward movement for the global African family,” GTA reiterated.
The festival, filled with storytelling, traditional music, and dance, served not only as a cultural showcase but also as a healing space—bridging generations and geographies under the banner of Pan-African solidarity.
A group of 220 former Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) who served under the immediate past New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration have officially declared their endorsement of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2028 general elections.
Dr. Bawumia held an open interaction with the MMDCEs in Accra on Monday morning as part of his stakeholder consultations. Following the meeting, the former MMDCEs held a press conference to declare their absolute confidence in Dr. Bawumia’s leadership and endorsed his candidature for the 2028 elections.
“Following extensive consultations with all aspirants, and after a thorough assessment of their vision, competence, and commitment to the NPP’s progress, we are convinced beyond any doubt that Dr. Bawumia is the best candidate to lead the NPP to victory in 2028,” the MMDCEs said in their statement.
“Our endorsement is not merely symbolic; it is a strategic and operational commitment. With 95% of us having previously served as constituency and regional executives—some for over 16 years—we possess an intimate understanding of the NPP’s structures, dynamics, and electoral needs. We will deploy this experience to ensure Dr. Bawumia’s message resonates in every corner of Ghana,” they added.
Why Bawumia?
The MMDCEs described Dr. Bawumia as “a man of proven track record in public service” and one whose appeal “cuts across demographics.”
“As Vice President, Dr. Bawumia spearheaded transformative policies such as the digitalisation drive (Ghana Card, Mobile Money Interoperability, Paperless Ports), which have enhanced efficiency and formalised Ghana’s economy.”
“His analytical, data-driven approach to governance ensures that policies are evidence-based and impactful—a critical need for Ghana’s next phase of development.”
The group also highlighted Dr. Bawumia’s unifying traits, describing him as “a unifier and a grassroots mobiliser.”
“Dr. Bawumia has demonstrated an inclusive leadership style, engaging all factions of the party and fostering unity. He has consistently exhibited this trait in his approach within the party.”
“His accessibility and humility resonate deeply with grassroots supporters, making him the ideal leader to galvanise the NPP’s base.”
Last week, an overwhelming majority of the 88 NPP Members of Parliament—about 65—also declared their support for Dr. Bawumia.
The MMDCEs’ endorsement is expected to bolster the former Vice President’s bid to lead the NPP once again, with the party’s flagbearer election scheduled for January 31, 2026.

Two-time NBA champion Kevin Durant has acquired a minority stake in Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), marking a major step in the French club’s growing ambitions beyond football.
The Phoenix Suns forward has entered a strategic partnership with Qatar Sports Investments (QSI), PSG’s majority owners, and will contribute his expertise as the club prepares to expand into professional basketball.
“It is an honour to partner with QSI and to be a shareholder of PSG, a club and a city that is deeply close to my heart,” said Durant. “This club has big plans and I look forward to being part of the next phase of growth.”
Durant’s media and investment firm, Boardroom, will collaborate with PSG on various commercial and content ventures as part of the deal. The partnership also comes amid QSI’s interest in owning a team in a proposed European basketball league backed by the NBA and FIBA.
Although already linked to PSG through minority stakeholder Arctos Partners, Durant’s new investment gives him a direct role in the club’s evolving multi-sport strategy.
The move follows his recent gold medal win at the 2024 Paris Olympics and his inclusion in Forbes’ 2025 list of highest-paid athletes.
QSI, which took over PSG in 2011, has transformed the club into a powerhouse, securing 11 Ligue 1 titles and their maiden Champions League triumph, a 5-0 win over Inter Milan last month.
Former Big Brother Naija star and businesswoman Uriel Oputa has taken a stand against age-shaming, particularly towards women.
In an Instagram post, Uriel called out Nigerian men who shame women for growing older, questioning why a natural part of life should be used as an insult.
Spokesperson for Kennedy Agyapong’s campaign, Kwasi Kwarteng, says the team is unbothered by claims from the camp of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia that over 200 Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) have endorsed his bid to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) into the 2028 elections.
Speaking on JoyNews’ on Monday, June 23, Mr. Kwarteng said such endorsements are not new and do not necessarily translate into electoral victory.
“It is good for them [the Bawumia camp], we wish them well if indeed they believe they have over 200 MMDCEs. I’m sure the election day will vindicate that position.”
He criticised what he described as a deliberate tactic to stage endorsements and create a false sense of widespread support.
“It was a similar practice done during the last elections that directly convinced polling station executives to vote for Dr. Bawumia, and we all saw the outcome.”
Mr. Kwarteng further stated that the former Assin Central MP’s campaign approach is focused on the grassroots.
“Our focus is to engage over 200,000 polling station executives. We are confident that they will make a determination on who they believe should lead the party — a candidate who is marketable, winnable, and can unite the party.”
He continued, “But I know that this time around, they will not make a decision and elect a candidate that is not marketable, elect a candidate that is not winnable, elect a candidate that will not be able to unite the party. I know that this time around, they will not make that decision. So it is left for them [the Bawumia camp] to lie to themselves that they have been endorsed by these MMDCEs.”
His comments come after more than 200 former MMDCEs met former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia on Monday, as the race to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) into the 2028 general election heats up.
The meeting, which took place at the Alisa Hotel in Accra, came just days after Dr. Bawumia hosted over 60 NPP Members of Parliament at his campaign office, where they publicly declared their support for his bid to become the party’s flagbearer.
The former MMDCEs, who served under previous NPP administrations, reportedly discussed strategies and declared their support for Dr. Bawumia ahead of the crucial internal presidential primary slated for January 2026.
The W.E.B. Du Bois Museum Foundation, in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture and the J.J. Rawlings Foundation, marked a momentous occasion with the 40th Anniversary celebration of the W.E.B. Du Bois Memorial Centre for Pan-African Culture.
The commemorative event drew dignitaries, diplomats, cultural leaders, scholars, and members of the Pan-African community from around the world to honour the enduring legacy of Dr. W.E.B. Du Bois.
This year’s anniversary held added significance, coinciding with the birthday of H.E. J.J. Rawlings, the late former President of Ghana under whose visionary leadership the Centre was originally commissioned in 1985.
His foundational role in establishing the Du Bois Centre was remembered with deep reverence throughout the day’s activities.
The celebration began with a warm welcome delivered by Dr. Kofi Boateng, Chief Financial Officer of the W.E.B. Du Bois Museum Foundation, who read the welcome address on behalf of Mr. Daniel Rose, Chairman of the Foundation’s Board.
His remarks set the tone for the day, reaffirming the Foundation’s commitment to preserving and expanding Dr. Du Bois’s legacy for generations to come.
The programme continued with a powerful keynote by Yaa Asantewaa Agyeman-Rawlings, daughter of the late President Jerry John Rawlings, who commissioned the Centre on June 22, 1985—his 38th birthday.
In her address, she paid a stirring tribute to both Dr. W.E.B. Du Bois and her father’s Pan-African vision.
She reflected on Ghana’s place in the global Black freedom struggle, recalling how figures like Malcolm X, Martin Luther King Jr., and Muhammad Ali found inspiration in Ghana during its post-independence years.
Her tribute honoured the Du Bois Centre as both a monument of memory and a rallying point for Pan-African engagement.
One of the most anticipated moments was the official public introduction of Jeffrey Alan Peck, great-grandson of Dr. Du Bois and a Board Member of the Foundation.
Peck spoke passionately about his family’s connection to Ghana and expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Rawlings and Nkrumah families, as well as the people of Ghana, for honouring his great-grandfather’s legacy.
In his address, Mr. Japhet Aryiku, Executive Director of the W.E.B. Du Bois Museum Foundation, acknowledged the millions of dollars already invested into the Centre’s restoration—thanks to the generosity of the Foundation’s Board members.
He announced that a global fundraising initiative will soon be launched to support the next phase of development.Mr. Aryiku also made a public appeal for the recovery of authentic Du Bois belongings:
“We are actively searching for original furniture, personal items, and archival materials once owned by Dr. Du Bois and Shirley Graham Du Bois during their time in Ghana. If you know the whereabouts of any such items, we invite you to join us in restoring the Du Boises’ home with authenticity and dignity.”
The event brought together past directors and thought leaders who reflected on the Centre’s founding purpose and its evolving role in Pan-African scholarship and cultural preservation. It featured speakers including, Prof. Anne V. Adams, Professor Emerita, Cornell University and former Director of the Centre,Senator Conmany B. Wesseh, Liberian statesman and former Director of the Centre,
Dr. Sekou Nkrumah, son of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and former Executive Director of the Centre, Dr. William N.T. Evans-Anfom, renowned physician, statesman, and architect of the Du Bois tomb, Maame Efua Honadjeto, CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority, representing the Minister of Tourism.
Their remarks offered reflections on the Centre’s original vision and aspirations for its continued relevance in Pan-African and global Black thought.
A moving tribute was paid to President Jerry John Rawlings for his instrumental role in commissioning the Centre 40 years ago. In recognition of his contributions, a special birthday celebration and cake-cutting ceremony was held in his honour, marking not just a personal milestone but a national legacy deeply intertwined with the history of the Centre.
Guests were treated to a preview of an exclusive exhibition showcasing rare materials from the lives of Dr. Du Bois and Shirley Graham Du Bois during their years in Ghana. From personal letters to never-before-seen photographs and political artifacts, the exhibition offered an intimate look into the couple’s final chapter on the African continent.
The celebration was further enriched by the presence of several high-profile dignitaries and diplomats, including:Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, Former First Lady of Ghana, Hiroshi Yoshimoto, Ambassador of Japan to Ghana, Kyrre Holm, Deputy Head of Mission, Royal Norwegian Embassy, Jonathan Wiesner, Deputy Executive Director, Helping Africa Foundation, Fritz Baffour, former Minister of Information and Foundation Board Member; Madam Maame Efua Honadjeto, CEO, Ghana Tourism Authority.
Their participation underscored the global reach and influence of Dr. Du Bois’s legacy.

Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, says he is taking a more grounded approach to building his support base within the New Patriotic Party as he declares his intention to contest the party’s flagbearship race.
The former Minister for Education acknowledged the visible public support for his contenders but says he is quietly building his base.
“The job dey ground,” he told JoyNews in an exclusive interview. “You really have to go to the grounds and talk to people and get them excited about the prospect of your potential candidacy. I am happy there are MPs who have come to me ‘Nicodemusly’ and that is the name of the game. I don’t have to come out and do a public display of those who are for me or those who are against me. Once I can line them up, there will be a surprise in this country.”
Dr. Adutwum officially declared his intention to contest the NPP flagbearer race for election 2028 in a Facebook announcement on Wednesday, June 18, 2025.
While widely recognized for his work in the education sector, he also addressed concerns about his economic credentials, pointing to his background in Development Economics.
He argued that his long-term vision connects education directly with national economic transformation.
“I understand the economy through the prism of how strong economies are built. I am a student of Development Economics. I understand how Singapore and China became. With a strong education foundation, they built industry and industry co-existed with a robust education system and the rest is history. The nexus between education, industrialization and economic development is where I find myself and it’s a very good place to be,” he explained.
The MP said his candidacy is rooted in national interest and believes his track record in transforming Ghana’s education system is a strong foundation to build on.
“It’s not about me but about the future of this nation. I am going to make a strong case with the delegates, that if they put me at the top at the delegate level, Ghanaians will welcome me with open arms,” he added.
Dr. Adutwum believes the party’s ultimate choice should be based on vision and track record, not just popularity. He says his work in transforming education is only a glimpse of what he can offer.
“Anyone of us who wins will be a good candidate for the New Patriotic Party, but I know Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, so far as I’m concerned, I’ve shown innovation through education, and I’m going to get an opportunity to show innovation through economic development and building a robust middle class,” he said.

MARIA ADEBUSOLA Olanrewaju, widow of the late Nigerian boxer Gabriel Oluwasegun Olanrewaju, has revealed she is yet to receive the $3,000 donation made by the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) during the repatriation of her husband’s remains to Nigeria.
Mrs. Olanrewaju said internal family disputes have prevented her from accessing the funds. “The family members of my husband are fighting over the $3,000 donated by the entourage from Ghana. The money is yet to be given to me,” she stated.
She further expressed distress over being sidelined during the funeral. According to her, she and her children were barred from participating in final rites and denied access to her husband’s body. “Immediately we received my husband’s body, his family did not allow me to perform my rites. They did not give me and the children access,” she added.
The boxer died in Ghana after collapsing in the ring during a bout with Ghana’s John Mbanugu at the Bukom Boxing Arena. An autopsy confirmed he died of cardiac arrest.
The GBA, which facilitated the return of his body to Nigeria, had pledged the $3,000 donation to support the bereaved family.
Iran has launched at least six missiles at US military assets in Qatar, Axios reporter Barak Ravid said on Monday, citing Israeli officials, signaling the Iranian response to the US bombing of Iran’s nuclear facilities has begun.
The reported missile launch comes after Fox News and other outlets said that an Iranian attack on US assets in the region was “imminent” and Qatar announced that it was closing its airspace.
Accra, June 23, GNA – An associate professor at the Department of Marine and Fisheries SCIENCES, University of Ghana, Legon, has called for a national shift in approach of just planting trees to intentionally nurturing them as a long-term climate change solution.
Dr Francis Kofi Ewusie Nunoo, informed that while tree planting remained an essential intervention for climate resilience, some of the trees planted across the country did not survive beyond the first year due to poor maintenance and a lack of community ownership.
He was speaking at tree planting exercise organised by Women in Water, Sanitation and Climate Change (WWSCC) and partners at the Accra High School.
More than 2,000 seedlings made up ornamentals, vegetables, fruits and shade plants were planted at the school.
Prof Nunoo, Madam Evelyn Sagbil Nabia, the Headmistress of the School and Mr Sai Subramanian, the Asset Director of Tullow Ghana, planted seedlings in their name.
“Planting a tree is only the beginning. We must water, protect, and monitor them if we want to realise the true environmental, economic, and social benefits trees offer.”Prof. Nunoo said.
He added that trees served as carbon sinks, drawing down greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, helping to reduce global warming and mitigate climate change impacts such as extreme heat, erratic rainfall, and floods.
Prof. Nunoo said Ghana, like many African nations, was increasingly vulnerable to the effects of climate change and one of the important measures to live with the impacts.
He urged the government to invest in monitoring technologies, irrigation systems, and community-based incentive schemes that reward high survival rates.
Madam Nabia, welcomed the initiative and said the environmental club of school would ensure that each tree planted was assigned a caretaker to well nurture it.
She said the exercise had not only beautified the school environment but had also inspired a sense of responsibility among the students towards protecting nature.
“This event goes beyond the physical act of planting trees. It is about planting ideas and values in the hearts of our young ones, values of sustainability, environmental stewardship, and civic responsibility,” she said.
Madam Nabia noted that the trees planted would serve multiple purposes, including providing shade, improving air quality, and supporting biodiversity on the school compound.
Madam Sandra Kyere, the Executive Director of WWSCC, said the exercise, formed part of a broader climate action initiative aimed at promoting environmental stewardship among the youth.
She explained that involving students in such practical activities was a deliberate effort to inspire long-term behavioural change and environmental consciousness from an early age.
“We believe schools are fertile grounds not just for academic learning, but also for cultivating values that shape responsible citizens. Planting a tree may seem small, but it is a powerful act of hope and investment in the future,” the Executive Director stated.
Madam Kyere noted that the initiative aligned with national and global goals, including Ghana’s Green Ghana campaign and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 13 on Climate Action and Goal 15 on Life on Land. GNA 23 June 2025 Edited by Samuel Osei-Frempong
Some Ghanaian businesses operating in Israel have expressed concerned about the potential rise in freight charges due to the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran. With tensions between the two nations on the rise, shipping costs are expected to surge, posing significant challenges for businesses that rely heavily on imports and exports in the region.
Speaking to Joy Business, President of the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA), Joesph Obeng said some members are worried about the impact of the war on rising costs on their of freight.
He disclosed that freight charges on the route are already indicating signs of instability, making it difficult for businesses to predict the future.
“The only problem we see is that it is going to affect us is the freight charges and the prolonged delivery of our goods because most of these shipping lines are going to reroute. If care is not also taken, the Strait of Hormuz is also going to be closed”.
The conflict has already triggered a 3% rise in global oil prices since markets reopened, following the U.S. strike on three Iranian nuclear facilities. To this end, Mr. Obeng is calling on the United Nations and world leaders to address the issue amicably to forestall major setback
“Most of the essential cargo comes from this corridor also, and that’s why we do not seek the escalation of this war, but rather pray to the leaders of the world, the UN and the United States, to find ways to bring a ceasefire and find a dialogue or political solution to this problem”, he pleaded.
Meanwhile, government is considering suspending the Price Stabilization and Recovery Levy as part of efforts to cushion consumers against a potential surge in global oil prices, should the Israel-Iran conflict escalate further.

Ghanaian artiste Arathejay has stated that he wears a mask because in the early days of his career, he didn’t want to show his face.
In an interview on Hitz FM, the Jesus Christ hitmaker explained that his decision to wear a mask was based on a belief that music should be judged by its message, not by the image of the person behind it.
According to him, his focus from the beginning was to draw attention to the substance of his music. He wanted listeners to engage with his lyrics and message without being influenced by his physical appearance.
“Initially, I didn’t want to show my face, but now I’m showing my face. I believe music is not so much about image. But I believe it’s so much about what I have to say. So, you need to focus on what I have to say. Yeah. So initially I didn’t even want anyone to see me,” he said.
Arathejay revealed that his perspective began to shift after discussions with his team and management. They helped him understand the role of image in today’s music industry and how it can help amplify the message he wants to share.
“But as time went on, talking with the team, everything, you find an image to buttress the music. So, I had to show my face a little,” he said.
Though still wearing the mask, Arathejay hinted that he may soon unveil his full face to the public.
“I might probably take it off soon,” he added.

Special Aide to former Vice President Mahamudu Bwumia, Dennis Miracles Aboagye
Special Aide to former Vice President Mahamudu Bwumia, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has emphasized the strategic advantage of continuity in political campaigns, arguing that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) stands a better chance in the next general election by sticking with a candidate who already commands a significant voter base.
“If you look at the electoral history of this country, it clearly tells you that you are better off going into your next elections with a candidate that has a baseline vote in his basket than to go with one that is zero,” he argued while speaking to the media during former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s meeting with the immediate past Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs).
He pointed to past elections to support his claim, referencing President John Agyekum Kufuor’s rebound after an initial loss.
“President Kufuor came back from 39 percent to win the next elections,” Aboagye stated. “Every successful candidate since Rawlings has come into the race with some prior electoral capital.”

Naa Lamle Orleans-Lindsay, Director of the Legal Division at the GIPC
The Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) will soon be known as the Ghana Investment Promotion Authority (GIPA) once the GIPA Bill 2025, which has been sent to Parliament, is passed into law.
According to Naa Lamle Orleans-Lindsay, Director of the Legal Division at the Centre, it has become necessary to amend the GIPC Act, which has been in use for over three decades.
The new bill presented to Parliament includes key provisions such as the change of name from “Centre” to “Authority,” an expansion of the Authority’s objectives and functions, a revision of the governance structure, and a proposed review of the minimum foreign capital requirements, among others.
Speaking to the media on the sidelines of a Technology Transfer Agreement stakeholder engagement, Orleans-Lindsay explained, “We are seeking to revise those capital requirements downwards. In fact, the proposal now is to remove them entirely, except for the capital requirements applicable to trading.”
“So, under the new GIPA law, we envisage that the capital requirements for joint ventures and wholly foreign-owned companies will be removed, leaving only the requirement for trading companies owned by foreigners,” she added.
She noted that the decision to review the law is based on feedback collected from clients and stakeholders over the years.
“We are seeking to revise the law into the GIPA law to create a more effective, streamlined process for registering, monitoring, and keeping records of Technology Transfer Agreements,” the Director explained.
Orleans-Lindsay further assured that all stakeholder concerns have been carefully considered.
“We have heard the concerns of our clients and stakeholders. I want to reassure them that all their concerns have been taken on board, and the GIPA Bill will reflect provisions aimed at resolving these issues once and for all,” she emphasised.
Ghanaian midfielder, Thomas Teye Partey, has opened up about his early days as a footballer in the country before leaving to Europe.
In a heartfelt revelation during the interview with Kafui Dey and shared on his X account on June 23, 2025, Partey disclosed that he left Ghana with just a little of his belongings.
He noted that he went on the flight wearing a Ronaldinho jersey and a pair of boots, without a jacket.
Partey recounted his humble beginnings, saying, “I left Ghana in a Ronaldinho jersey, boots and without a jacket to chase my football dreams in Europe.”
When asked about how he felt stepping into the airplane for the first time he said, “oh I just slept. I was so tired from all the hustle of Ashaiman. All this aero plane experience is like chilling.”
He talked about how his contemporaries would often adopt nicknames based on international football stars.
Specifically, Partey mentioned that he used to fantasise on how to play like Zinedine Zidane when he was a young boy.
He recounted a memorable experience from his school days when his father took him to a painting shop.
Despite the initial excitement, the experience did not resonate with him.
“I went only once. It was boring. It’s not like football because my friends are going somewhere to play and enjoy themselves, and I was just sitting in the painting room,” he recounted.
Partey’s journey has been an inspiration to many young footballers in Ghana and beyond.
His story serves as a testament to the power of determination and the rewards that come with hard work and dedication.
Reflecting on his time from playing Colts football in Ghana to becoming a key player for Arsenal and the Black Stars; Partey’s rise is a shining example of what can be achieved with passion and perseverance.
As a respected figure in Ghanaian football, Partey’s story is likely to motivate a new generation of footballers.
His experience, both on and off the pitch, has shaped him into a leader and a role model.
With his participation, the Black Stars are hopeful of achieving great success in upcoming tournaments, including the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Media personality and entertainment pundit MC Yaa Yeboah has come to the strong defence of Ghanaian musician Hajia4Reall, urging the public to refrain from linking her to the recent arrests involving a $100 million fraud case.
Her comments follow growing speculation on social media alleging that Hajia4Reall may have served as an informant for the FBI in connection with the arrest of Kofi Boat, along with two other individuals known only by the aliases “Agony” and a third unnamed accomplice. The trio are currently facing extradition to the United States for their alleged involvement in romance scams and money laundering schemes.
During a panel discussion on United Showbiz last weekend, Yaa Yeboah addressed the public backlash being directed at Hajia4Reall and pushed back against suggestions that she had committed any wrongdoing if she did, in fact, cooperate with authorities.
“Let’s assume Hajia4Reall was the one who provided the FBI with this information,” she said. “What wrong would she have done? It would actually be against our Criminal Offences Act if she had prior knowledge of individuals engaging in illicit activities and chose to remain silent.”
Referencing Section 20 of Ghana’s Criminal Offences Act, Yaa Yeboah explained that anyone with knowledge of criminal activity has a legal duty to report it. In that context, she argued, even if Hajia4Reall had assisted law enforcement, it would have been a responsible and lawful decision—not a betrayal.
Beyond the legal justification, Yaa Yeboah also raised a serious concern about the tone and intensity of the accusations being hurled online. “Let’s be careful of the accusations we are making against her. We are putting her life in danger with that,” she cautioned. “How we are saying it, for it to settle in people’s ears for them to believe it — we should be careful.”
She expressed concern over the way social media users are not only spreading unfounded allegations but also appearing to celebrate the arrests and urging more investigations without any understanding of how such processes work.
“I have come across numerous videos on social media, where some individuals are celebrating and calling for the FBI to investigate specific persons,” she said. “If the FBI decides to come after you, it’s a result of meticulously gathered evidence. It’s perplexing why anyone would be linking Hajia4Reall to these arrests. We must exercise caution because, in doing so, we may inadvertently place this young woman’s life at risk.”
Yaa Yeboah believes that instead of vilifying Hajia4Reall, the public should commend her if she has played a role in exposing criminal activity. To her, this is not betrayal—it is whistleblowing.
Dennis Miracles Aboagye has emphasized the strategic advantage of continuity in political campaigns, arguing that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) stands a better chance in the next general election by sticking with a candidate who already commands a significant voter base.
“If you look at the electoral history of this country, it clearly tells you that you are better off going into your next elections with a candidate that has a baseline vote in his basket than to go with one that is zero,” he argued while speaking to the media during Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s meeting with the immediate past Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs).

Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has pledged his full support for the Airport City Kumasi project and has called on indigenes of the Ashanti Region to rally behind the initiative.
Describing it as a life-changing venture, he noted that the project would not only transform the physical space it occupies but also significantly boost the hospitality industry and local economy.
Otumfuo stressed that the success of the Kumasi Airport City project should inspire bigger dreams and unlock greater investment opportunities for the city.
In a speech read on his behalf at the sod-cutting ceremony for the project, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II emphasised that Kumasi, as Ghana’s second capital, needs a massive regeneration.
He highlighted the city’s potential as an industrial powerhouse for the northern sector of the country, underscoring the need for job creation and equal opportunities for all, particularly the youth.
The Asantehene paid glowing tribute to Stephen Owusu, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of HDG Inc., whose brainchild is the Airport City Kumasi project.
He remarked, “The Golden Stool is proud to pay tribute to our proud son, Stephen Owusu, for his vision, creativity, and dedication to the development of this homeland. We pay tribute to his foreign partners for their faith in him and in the country. And we pay tribute to all those who have helped make this possible.”
Otumfuo passionately appealed to the people of Ashanti and Ghanaians across the country to support the Airport City Kumasi project.
Stephen Owusu, CEO of HDG Inc., said he draws inspiration from the Asantehene, whose unwavering encouragement has kept him going even in difficult times.
He explained that the vision is to develop a modern, smart, and sustainable city on the 50-acre site, comparable to leading global cities.
According to him, the city will include newly constructed roads, designated bike lanes, well-planned pavements and drainage systems, and lush green environments aimed at restoring Kumasi’s reputation as the Garden City.
Phase One of the project will feature Kensington Heights — a 15-floor development on 10 acres — consisting of international and local restaurants, gyms, spas, sports centres, pools, and 750 apartments.
Mr. Owusu stated, “Airport City Kumasi represents a bold initiative toward redefining urban living and convenience within Kumasi.”

Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, has disclosed the government’s plans to attract more Chinese manufacturers to establish assembly plants in the country.
According to him, this initiative is part of a broader effort to strengthen Ghana’s position as a manufacturing and export hub for the West African region.
“Ghana is not a bad place to do business after all. The 100 [Chinese companies] that are already here wouldn’t have come if it were otherwise. What we intend to do, or what the President envisions, is to encourage as many Chinese manufacturers as possible to consider setting up assembly plants or establishing new entities in Ghana,” he stated.
Speaking at the opening of the Ghana-China Business Summit 2025 on Monday, June 23, 2025, Debrah explained that relocating manufacturing closer to West African markets would help companies reduce logistical challenges and overcome market barriers.
“You get closer to the market, where you’ll also be permitted to export to the entire West African zone,” he added.
He also outlined a range of sectors where foreign investment would be particularly encouraged, including petrochemicals, housing, automobile manufacturing, electric vehicles (EVs), and tourism.
Debrah further assured potential Chinese investors of full government support. “Any Chinese entity willing to establish a manufacturing plant in Ghana will be welcomed, encouraged, supported, and pushed to succeed,” he said.

How social engineering hacks your mind and your bank account
A Supreme Court nominee, Justice Kweku T. Ackaah-Boafo, has called on the nation to protect young girls from abuses, including child marriage and witchcraft accusations.
According to him, education and legal reforms are needed in protecting the rights of vulnerable groups, particularly girls.
Appearing before Parliament’s Appointments Committee, Justice Ackaah-Boafo stated that, “The girl child should have the opportunity to be educated and develop her talent…”
He said putting a child into a marriage against their wishes is certainly a “no-no” for him.
He added, “I do not believe that children should be put in marriage at a tender age. Every child should have the opportunity to develop their talents, and if there is a need for us to regulate that through law, I am all for it. But I think many of these things come with education rather than just law.”
Justice Ackaah-Boafo said it is important to give every girl child the opportunity to pursue education and realise her full potential, describing forced child marriages as “completely unacceptable.”
Turning to the issue of witchcraft accusations, the nominee questioned why such practices persist in contemporary society.
“But why are we in a globalised society, and should we be talking about witchcraft?” he asked.
“I think that these are nuances that we may have to address. We accuse people of being witches, and you have to find out what the standard of such determination is,” he asserted.
Justice Ackaah-Boafo made these remarks during his vetting by the Appointments Committee as part of the process for his nomination to the Supreme Court.
Former presidential staffer Dennis Miracles Aboagye has hit back at claims that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is responsible for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) so-called “worst electoral defeat,” defending the Vice President’s candidacy for the 2028 general elections.
He made the remarks during a media interview at the sidelines of Bawumia’s meeting with former Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) monitored by MyNewsGh.

The Service emphasised that any legitimate recruitment will be announced exclusively through its authorised channels.
“The Service has not announced any new recruitment exercise. Any recruitment exercise will be duly advertised through the official communication channels of the Service, including the official website, verified social media platforms, and the national dailies,” the statement added.

“The public is hereby advised to disregard such fraudulent claims and desist from engaging with individuals or groups who promise recruitment opportunities in exchange for money,” the statement warned.
On enforcement, the Police Service assured that investigations into these scams are ongoing, with those found culpable facing arrest and prosecution.

Ghanaian entertainment pundit, Nana Frimpong Ziega
Entertainment pundit Nana Frimpong Ziega has issued a stern warning to netizens accusing Hajia4Reall of providing the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) with information about individuals allegedly involved in a $100 million romance scam.
Speaking on United Showbiz on June 21, 2025, Nana Frimpong Ziega emphasised that the arrest of the alleged fraudsters is part of a government-led initiative, not the result of an individual’s actions.
He explained that one of the government’s priorities is tackling crime, including fraud and romance scams, and therefore, linking Hajia4Reall to the ongoing FBI raids is unfounded and inappropriate.
“There are some things that, if this current government fails to achieve, will hurt them in 2028, such as economic stability, galamsey, and dumsor. Romance scams are also something the government has been actively fighting.
“Let’s stop this myopic thinking. It is wrong for us to believe that she bargained with the FBI to provide information in exchange for her release. That is absolute nonsense,” he said.
He further warned that associating Hajia4Reall with the alleged romance scam could put her life in danger.
“Let’s be careful with these accusations because someone could harm her for no reason based on these false claims,” he added.
Nana Frimpong Ziega’s comments come in the wake of the FBI arresting several Ghanaian businessmen, Kofi Boateng (popularly known as Kofi Boat), Joseph Boateng (Dada Joe Remix), Inusah Ahmed (also known as Agony), and others, over their alleged involvement in a $100 million fraud scheme.

Kwame Baffoe is the Bono Regional Chairman of the NPP
The Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, widely known as Abronye DC, has hit back at what he describes as double standards within the party’s leadership amid ongoing calls for unity.
Speaking on Ohia TV and monitored by GhanaWeb on Monday, June 23, 2025, Abronye questioned the party’s commitment to unity, pointing accusing fingers at the campaign team of Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, the former Member of Parliament for Assin Central.
He alleged that despite preaching unity, national party executives have failed to call out flagbearer aspirants whose teams are allegedly behind coordinated smear campaigns.
“They talk about unity, but they can’t even call such people to order. How is that unity?
“We see the smear campaigns on social media. Bawumia’s name has been linked to a rice importation scandal. Everyone in the party is aware of what’s going on. Yet, the very people promoting this division are the ones calling for calm,” he alleged.
Abronye further challenged the party to take action against him.
“Suspend who? I’m only speaking about things I know, and nothing will change my position,” he fumed.
His reaction follows a directive from the party’s national leadership, which cautioned both him and Deputy Communications Officer Ernest Owusu-Bempah over acts of indiscipline.
Despite the warning, Abronye insists he will not be silenced, stressing that genuine unity must be built on fairness not silence and hypocrisy.

GIPC has established a Technology Transfer Agreement (TTA) Department
The Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) has announced the establishment of a Technology Transfer Agreement (TTA) Department to provide swift responses to clients and improve service delivery.
The Director of the Technology Transfer Agreement Department at GIPC, Emmanuel Osei, explained that a technology transfer agreement involves the licensing of industrial property rights, the supply of technical expertise or technical services, the provision of managerial expertise and training, and the distribution of know-how.
According to him, under a TTA, the recipient of the service must be located in Ghana, while the provider of the service must be based outside the country.
Speaking on the sidelines of a stakeholder engagement on June 23, 2025, Osei noted that the duration of a TTA, under current law, should not be less than 18 months and not exceed 10 years.
He said, “Agreements can also be renewed for a further period of five years. When you apply to GIPC, the Centre will review, register, monitor, and keep records of all agreements submitted for registration. When it comes to the renewal of a registration or agreement, the GIPC collaborates with the relevant sector regulator. For example, as you are witnessing here today, we have engagements with various commercial banks and the Bank of Ghana, which is the regulator.”
He further emphasised the decision to create a dedicated department solely for TTA registration, citing the need for speed and efficiency.
“Over the years, we realised that initially, the registration of these agreements was handled by the Legal Division of GIPC. However, to speed up the process, we now have a new Technology Transfer Agreement Division that exclusively handles the registration, review, and monitoring of all TTAs,” Osei explained.
The GIPC is also working on revising the GIPC Bill, which will change the name from “Centre” to “Authority” and amend aspects of the current GIPC Act.
Osei noted, “The laws we are currently using include the GIPC Act, 2013 (Act 865) and the Technology Transfer Regulations, LI 1547, which has been in place since 1992. It has been a long time, so we are currently revising the GIPC Bill and the LI to ensure companies comply with updated legislation.”
He also cautioned that failure to comply with the required processes could result in the revocation of a company’s registration with the Centre, particularly where improper fee transfers are involved.
“Now, we have a dedicated team of lawyers and paralegals who are tasked solely with registering technology transfer agreements to ensure that clients who submit their TTAs to us receive timely registration,” Osei added.

Hearts of Oak’s Communications Director, Kwame Opare Addo, says the club is working tirelessly to settle the $70,000 transfer dispute with New Edubiase.
Hearts of Oak has been handed a transfer ban due to a dispute with New Edubiase over a $70,000 transfer fee.
The club missed the final deadline to pay the amount, resulting in the ban.
The ban is in line with Article 15(1)(c) of the GFA Disciplinary Code, and was applied after Hearts of Oak missed the final deadline on May 31, 2025, to settle the amount.
Speaking on Asempa FM on Monday, June 23, 2025, Opare Addo confirmed the Ghana Football Association’s ruling while indicating that the club is working to get the issue resolved.
“This is an issue that is being resolved. I can say that when it is eventually resolved, New Edubiase will testify to it that it has been resolved.
“Who knows, in the next few minutes it could be resolved. When it is fully done, and you ask New Edubiase, they will also testify to it. The two parties are in constant touch to make sure it happens but everything you read from the GFA document is correct,” he said.
The Phobians are hoping to resolve the impasse quickly ahead of preparations for the upcoming football season.
The CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Maame Efua Houadjeto, on Thursday said plans are underway for the start of the “Black Star Experience” in July.
She said the GTA and its partners have put together several programmes starting from July, which would run throughout the year.
The “Black Star Experience” is a key initiative under the government’s flagship programme for the tourism, arts, and culture sector.
The project is designed to redefine and promote the Ghanaian identity, attract investments, generate employment, and boost tourism.
It will feature a year-round celebration encompassing all major entertainment, artistic, cultural, and educational disciplines.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Mrs. Houadjeto said: “We are putting together a number of events that will be remarkable for anybody who comes in.”
She said that in July, there would be the Black Star Festival both in Ghana and abroad. Then in August, PANAFEST and Emancipation would take place in Accra and Cape Coast, along with food fairs and fashion shows.
“Apart from that, we are also putting together jazz and symphony orchestra performances, as well as a gospel fest. There will also be a highlife festival, as well as the usual concerts and music festivals.”
Mrs. Houadjeto noted that in September, FESTAC Africa would be organised for the first time in Accra, to coincide with the UNWTO Tourism Month celebrations.
“We will celebrate arts and culture, the movie industry, our youth, and our health,” she said.
“The whole of Africa will be in Ghana to display their diverse cultures and show the unity and beauty of Africans, because we are one people separated by artificial borders.”
She noted that the “Black Star Experience” is different from the ‘Beyond the Return’ initiative, which focused only on the diaspora.
“The ‘Black Star Experience’ is going to have a global feeling.”
“We want to go all out there and tell everybody to come to Ghana at any point to experience Ghana in totality. It is like imagining an experience, and overall, that is what we call the ‘Black Star Experience.’”
She urged Ghanaians to watch out for these programmes and more between now and December, while calling on the world to experience destination Ghana “with all the beautiful people, the food, the clothing, the culture, festivals, sites, and attractions.”
A coalition of 220 former Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) who served under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration from 2017 to 2024 has declared full support for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the party’s flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.
At a press conference held at the Alisa Hotel in Accra on Monday, June 23, the group, known as the Forum of Former MMDCEs for Dr. Bawumia, announced their “strong, unshaken endorsement” of the former Vice President. Their backing comes ahead of the party’s internal elections slated for January 31, 2026.
The forum described its support as more than symbolic, stressing that it is a practical commitment of time, resources, and political effort to help secure Dr. Bawumia’s candidacy and eventual victory.
According to the group, after extensive consultations with all aspirants and a thorough assessment of their competence and vision, they were convinced that Dr. Bawumia stood out as the most suitable leader for both the party and the country.
Bawumia’s message resonates in every corner of Ghana,” they said.
They praised Dr. Bawumia for his proven record in public service, especially his leadership in Ghana’s digital transformation, including the rollout of the Ghana Card, mobile money interoperability, and the paperless ports system. These, they said, had improved efficiency and formalised key sectors of the economy.
The forum also commended Dr. Bawumia’s inclusive leadership style, describing him as accessible, humble, and a unifier who engages with all factions of the party. His popularity with the grassroots, youth, and floating voters, they noted, gives the NPP a competitive advantage heading into the next national elections.
They argued that Dr. Bawumia’s national appeal and widespread recognition—established during the 2024 campaign—make him the party’s strongest bet for the presidency in 2028.
According to them, the electoral data suggests that beginning the campaign with a known candidate like Dr. Bawumia offers the NPP a significant head start, unlike the risk of fielding a new candidate with no established base.
The former MMDCEs said they view Dr. Bawumia as a leader who balances continuity and innovation, capable of upholding Ghana’s development gains while introducing new ideas for national progress.
They further pledged to mobilise their grassroots networks across all 16 regions of the country to support his campaign.
“We, the former MMDCEs, are not just endorsing—we are activating our networks. We will: Mobilise at the grassroots in all 16 regions, leveraging our deep-rooted connections. Engage in door-to-door campaigns, articulating Dr. Bawumia’s vision. Counter misinformation with facts about his achievements and potential. Resource the campaign through fundraising and logistical support.”
The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) is intensifying efforts to reconnect the African Diaspora with their ancestral roots, partnering with the African American Association of Ghana (AAAG) to deliver immersive cultural experiences grounded in history, identity, and pride.
Speaking at this year’s Juneteenth celebration in Accra, Deputy Director of Corporate Affairs at the GTA, Kofi Atta Kakra Kusi, emphasized the growing synergy between the two organizations, noting that the collaboration forms a critical part of Ghana’s broader Pan-African agenda.
The celebration, marked by a colourful parade and cultural festival, was held as a precursor to the upcoming Panafest Emancipation Festival. Mr. Kusi highlighted the AAAG’s central role in curating the Black Star Experience—one of this year’s key Panafest attractions—anchored on seven pillars: cinema, audio, cuisine, aesthetics, style, literature, and heritage.
“We’ve involved AAAG in our events before, and there are numerous activities lined up throughout the year,” Mr. Kusi noted, stressing that long-term partnerships are essential to advancing the Black Agenda.
The Juneteenth event, which commemorates the 1865 emancipation of enslaved African Americans, was supported by the GTA and drew participants from across the African Diaspora. Mr. Kusi described the celebration as a powerful affirmation of identity and cultural reconnection.
“It gives them their right, their strength, their support to believe in themselves as Africans,” he said.
Beyond symbolic engagement, the GTA’s sponsorship and staff participation underscored its commitment to using cultural tourism as a tool to grow Ghana’s economy and deepen ties with the Diaspora.
Tying the occasion to the larger reparations discourse at the heart of this year’s Panafest, Mr. Kusi declared, “We cannot exclude Diaspora Africans when speaking about reparations. It’s time to ask for what belongs to us as Africans, who were enslaved.”
Former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for New Juaben, Isaac Apaw Gyasi, has said that Ghanaians were not patient with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government during its time in office, despite the economic groundwork it laid.
Speaking to Citi News’ Hanson Agyeman ahead of a high-level engagement between former Vice President and 2024 NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and past Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), Mr. Gyasi defended the economic policies introduced under Dr. Bawumia’s leadership.
He cited the recent stability of the Ghanaian Cedi as evidence of the long-term impact of those policies.
“The Cedi’s appreciation has a historical background,” he said. “Under the able leadership of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the fundamentals had been set right. Even President John Dramani Mahama acknowledged the policies and programmes that were put in place — especially the Gold-for-Oil programme and the strategic gold purchases by the state.”
According to him, it is unrealistic to credit the current administration for the Cedi’s recent stability, given the short time it has been in office.
“How can a government that has been in office for less than a month claim credit for stabilising the Cedi? It is practically impossible. The stability we see today is due to earlier programmes and foundations laid before,” Mr. Gyasi argued.
He added that while progress had been made, many Ghanaians were too quick to judge the NPP’s efforts without allowing enough time for results to show.
“One thing about Ghanaians is that we need to learn to be patient. As they say, patience is a virtue. A lot of people did not have patience for us,” he remarked.
Drawing a historical comparison, Mr. Gyasi said, “It took America over 300 years to reach where it is now. Our democracy is just about 68 years old. So, I plead with the people of this country: let us be more patient as we come together to build this nation.”

Ghana’s first and only female ambassador to the US explained that the government’s contract with Fred Kwarteng, a staff at the IT Department of the Embassy, was legitimate and had no financial implications for Ghana.
The immediate past Ghana Ambassador to the United States, Hajia Alima Mahama has called on the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, to commit more time to understanding the operations of Ghana’s embassy in Washington, DC.
A group of former Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) have firmly denied endorsing Kennedy Agyapong’s candidacy in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer race.
Their rebuttal comes in response to claims by the former Assin Central MP that 268 former MMDCEs had declared their support for him during a courtesy visit to his private residence in Accra on Thursday, 19 June.
Addressing a press conference, former Adenta MCE, Doku Ebenezer—who confirmed his presence at the meeting—dismissed the claim as entirely inaccurate.
“Kennedy Agyapong invited all of us; I was there,” he said. “But we did not throw our support behind him. His assertion that over 250 MMDCEs came to endorse him is false.”
Mr Doku described the meeting as an informal social gathering rather than a political endorsement event.
“We are reading a statement today on behalf of all of us. No statement was read during the meeting. We spoke, wined and dined, and then we left,” he explained. “Today, we are making this clear with an official statement.”
The group of former MMDCEs highlighted three key points in their clarification:
They did not endorse Kennedy Agyapong during or after the meeting.
No formal or informal support was given.
Reports suggesting widespread backing are false and misleading.
“This is our only official position. Any other claims are wrong and should be ignored,” the group concluded.

Former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for New Juaben South, Ike Apaw Gyasi, has expressed strong confidence in the leadership qualities of Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, describing him as a well-nurtured leader capable of steering both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Ghana to greater heights.
Speaking on Channel One TV on Monday, June 23, ahead of a high-level engagement with the immediate past MMDCES of the NPP government with Dr. Bawumia, he appealed to Ghanaians to exercise patience and look beyond partisanship in evaluating policies and national leadership.
“I will plead with Ghanaians to be patient, because for me, if the economy is good, it is good for everybody, and we ought not to be too partisan. We need to look at the bigger picture. Ghana is bigger than everybody,” he stated.
He urged citizens to support policies that benefit the nation, regardless of which political party proposes them. “If a policy is good for a country, irrespective of whoever has put that policy in place, we need to support that. Ghana first, as far as I am concerned,” he emphasised.
Apaw Gyasi also pointed out that Ghana is on the brink of a needed transformation and believes Dr. Bawumia is the right leader to drive that agenda, noting that leadership development takes time, urging the nation to allow Dr. Bawumia’s leadership to mature and be tested at the highest level.
“I am waiting for this country to go through the transformational process that we have always talked about, and in my view, I think that we have in Dr. Bawumia a leader who has shown a proven track record.
“When we nurture leadership, we must always give it time to blossom. I see Dr. Bawumia as somebody who has been nurtured by this country, and in my view, I think that he will be a fine president in this country,” he added.
The endorsement from Ike Apaw Gyasi comes on the back of the New Patriotic Party’s preparation for its next presidential primaries, officially scheduled for January 31, 2026.
This was confirmed by NPP General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Koduah, following the National Council’s adoption of a proposal from the party’s constitution review committee.
Koduah clarified that the date was approved by the National Council and would not be subject to a broader delegates’ conference vote.
