‘City Of God Is More Than A Song’

Eric Jeshrun

Renowned Ghanaian Canada-based gospel musician and man of God, Eric Jeshrun, has unleashed an anointing-filled song dubbed ‘City of God’.

The song, produced by Prince Sennah, comes with a scintillating video directed and shot by Mr. Banks Films.

According to Eric Jeshrun, ‘City of God’ is not just a song; it’s a declaration rooted in scripture.

The song, released on Friday, April 25, 2025, is available on all digital platforms.

“My prayer is that as you listen, your awareness of this river that makes God’s City becomes more than just words. May it become your reality, in Jesus’ name,” he said.

Sharing the story behind the song, Eric Jeshrun said he came to Ghana to minister two years ago, and just before entering the service, he heard a piece of terrible news about a friend.

Down in spirit at the moment of ministration, he heard within that “there is a river whose streams make glad the City of God”. He ministered it, and the band tagged along.

Eric Jeshrun is optimistic that the song will bring joy to people who are in despair or experiencing difficult times in their lives.

Ex-National Signals Bureau Boss Adu-Boahen remanded for 7 Days

0

The former head of the National Signals Bureau, Kwabena Adu-Boahen, has been remanded into the custody of the Economic and Organised Organisation (EOCO) for seven days by a High Court in Accra following a hearing on Friday, May 2, 2025.

The ruling comes after the Attorney General, Dr. Dominic Ayine, urged the court to remand the accused, citing intelligence suggesting that Adu-Boahen had attempted to interfere with a key prosecution witness in the ongoing alleged stealing case.

The defence counsel, Samuel Atta Akyea, strongly disputed the claim, questioning both the credibility of the intelligence and his client’s ability to influence the witness.

The presiding judge initially deferred the ruling, stating the need to review the intelligence evidence in-camera before delivering a final decision.

After hearing arguments and reviewing preliminary material, the court ordered that Adu-Boahen be held in custody for a week while further assessments are made.

According to the judge, this is a balance between the freedom of the accused and to allow the state prepare it’s witness statements.

Meanwhile, the two other accused persons Angela Adjei-Boateng, wife of Kwabena Adu-Boahen and Mildred Donkor, a former bank relation’s officer for the couple have been granted bail.

In court, Dr. Ayine also disclosed that separate investigations involving Adu-Boahen are underway at Ghana Water Limited, suggesting that the accused may face additional legal scrutiny in the coming weeks.

Adu-Boahen is expected to reappear in court on Friday, May 9, 2025.

Avail yourself for probe to clear your name – GII urges A-G over A Plus’ corruption allegation

0

The Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII) has waded into the ongoing controversy between the Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, and the Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, over corruption allegations made on social media.

Speaking on the Fundraising Manager of GII, Michael Boadi, called for a thorough and independent investigation into the matter.

He stressed that the Attorney General must avail himself for investigation to clear his name.

“This is a corruption-related allegation, and it must be treated seriously. The Attorney General should subject himself to investigation to protect the integrity of his office,” Mr. Boadi said.

He noted that institutions such as the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), and the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service have the mandate to probe such allegations.

“The OSP, CHRAJ, and CID can all investigate this matter. The Special Prosecutor is legally empowered to do so, but the AG must not act as a barrier to that process,” Mr. Boadi explained.

He further stressed the need for both parties—the AG and A Plus—to follow due process.

“It’s not just about defending personal reputation. This concerns the integrity of our governance systems. A Plus should formally report the matter to the appropriate investigative bodies, and the AG should allow the law to take its course,” he added.

Mr. Boadi criticized the idea of engaging in a public feud over such a serious matter.

“It is painful when someone tarnishes your image, but the solution is not to descend into the mud. The AG should clear his name through legal channels, not exchanges in the public,” he said.

The Attorney General, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has already dismissed the allegations made by A Plus, who accused him of manipulating the drafting and passage of the Sanitation and Pollution Levy in 2021 for personal gain while in opposition.

In response, Dr. Ayine said during a press briefing on April 30:

Mr. Boadi, however, insisted that “this is not just a personal issue. It’s a national concern, and both parties must use the right legal procedures to ensure transparency and accountability.”

Apologise to Paul Afoko, Kwabena Agyepong – Arthur Kennedy to NPP leadership

Dr Arthur Kobina Kennedy, Former NPP presidential aspirant Dr Arthur Kobina Kennedy, Former NPP presidential aspirant

A medical doctor and former New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirant, Dr Arthur Kobina Kennedy, has made a strong case for ex-NPP National Chairman, Paul Afoko over his indefinite suspension from the party; as well as for ex-NPP General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong; who was initially also suspended.

He demanded that the party must not only reinstate them, but also apologise to them over the unfortunate turn of events in 2015.

He made this appeal during an interview on TV3 on April 1, 2025, while contributing to the ongoing debate on the NPP’s nationwide “Thank You Tour.”

In a subtle jab at the former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, he questioned why he remained silent on some of these key issues during his time in office.

He criticised Bawumia for the seeming shift of blame to his predecessor, former President Akufo-Addo and recommended that the party pulls the brakes on the ongoing tour to focus on reconciling all members who have defected for one reason or another.

“Did Dr Bawumia ever speak in cabinet against the cathedral? Did he ever condemn corruption? I mean, did he ever raise his voice against what happened to Afoko and Kwabena Agyepong, etc?” Dr Kennedy asked.

He subsequently demanded that Paul Afoko be reintegrated into the party, and both of them (Afoko and Kwabena Agyepong) be offered an apology.

“These two people were constitutionally elected leaders of the party who were suspended under bizarre circumstances. They didn’t do anything wrong. So, I think the party should apologise to them and incorporate them back into the party,” he said.

Dr Kennedy’s call for a rethink of the NPP nationwide “Thank You Tour” fall on the back of the withdrawal of key party leaders like the National Chairman, Stephen Ayensu Ntim; and former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong; from the tour.

Read statement on Afoko’s suspension below:

By the decision of the NEC, Paul Afoko is suspended indefinitely from the position of National Chairman of NPP.

Karim Zito speaks ahead of Super Clash against Hearts of Oak

0

Asante Kotoko head coach Karim Zito has cautioned against underestimating the difficulty of the match, regardless of either team’s form.

Speaking to the club’s media ahead of the showdown, Zito acknowledged the unpredictable nature of Ghana’s biggest football rivalry.

“They are not a bad side, but sometimes a little bit of luck eludes them when they play,” Zito said of Hearts of Oak.

He emphasized that unlike regular league fixtures, games between Hearts and Kotoko are defined more by passion and rivalry than by standings or recent performances.

“I think it’s going to be a difficult game because Hearts and Kotoko are not like other clubs. On Sunday, it won’t be an easy game for either side,” he explained.

Zito, who recently guided Kotoko to a vital win over Aduana Stars, admitted that even as a coach, predicting the outcome of this fixture remains a challenge.

“I know the game will be difficult. With Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko, you cannot predict the outcome until the 90th minute,” he concluded.

Kotoko have won the last three matches between the two.

The Porcupines are in the title race and would need a win to close in on Bibiani Golds Stars. Meanwhile, Hearts of Oak who are winless in their last four games, are aiming for a win to get back to winning ways.

Shatta Wale Apologises To Bulldog Over Fennec Okyere’s Murder Allegation

0

Dancehall star, Shatta Wale, has publicly apologised to his former manager, Lawrence Nana Asiamah Hanson, known in the entertainment industry as Bulldog, for accusing him of being involved in the 2014 murder of artist manager Fennec Okyere.

In a Facebook post, Shatta Wale retracted comments he made on November 2, 2022, which suggested that Bulldog had confessed to the crime. He admitted the statements were misleading and may have been misinterpreted.

“On November 2, 2022, I published a series of posts… which included a statement that I have now come to know was generally misunderstood or misconstrued as Mr Hanson’s confession… I wish to retract each of the statements… and apologise to Mr Hanson and all the persons whom my publications… have caused pain, agony, anguish, shame, ridicule, or hatred,” he wrote.

The apology is the latest development in a years-long feud between the two, which escalated after their professional relationship ended. Shatta Wale had previously accused Bulldog of infidelity, soliciting sex from workers, and being connected to Fennec Okyere’s death—allegations that led Bulldog to file a defamation lawsuit.

Following the accusations, the Ghana Police Service reopened investigations into the 2014 murder. However, no new charges were filed. Bulldog had been arrested in connection with the case in 2014 but was released in 2017 due to insufficient evidence.

Their conflict played out in the public eye for years, with both parties exchanging accusations online well into 2024. Shatta Wale’s apology may signal an effort to bring the long-standing dispute to a close.

Fennec Okyere, a well-known artist manager, was killed at his Accra home in March 2014. His murder remains unsolved.

Court remands Adu-Boahene into EOCO’s custody for 7 days

0

An Accra High Court has ordered that the former head of the National Signals Bureau, Kwabena Adu-Boahene, whose bail conditions were yet to be met, be kept in the custody of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) for seven working days, to enable the Attorney General to complete the preparation of its witness statements.

The case has thus been adjourned to May 13 for further directions by the court.

At the last court date, this suit was adjourned to today for the court to consider submissions for the grant of bail in camera to determine whether or not the first accused person is to continue on the existing bail terms.

Counsel for the accused persons had submitted to the court to order the existing bail terms to be continued for all the accused persons, to which the Attorney General opposed in respect of the first accused person. His reason was that he had demonstrated interference with potential witnesses for the prosecution.

It is the submission of the AG which necessitated the court to order Counsel for the respective parties to appear before it in camera to make their respective submissions for and against.

Having considered the respective submissions of Counsel for the Republic and Counsel for the accused persons and the need to balance the rights of the accused persons, the Judge ruled that the accused be kept in prison custody for seven days to enable the Attorney General to complete the preparation of his witness statements.

Counsel for the accused, Atta Akyea, pleaded with the judge to include weekends in the seven days, but the judge explained that the AG doesn’t work on weekends. Deputy AG Srem Sai also opposed the request.

The judge later explained that his intention is to allow the 7 days because one of the potential witnesses is not within the jurisdiction and the state needs time, and not necessarily seven working days.

ECOWAS is far from achieving its objectives – Dr Antwi-Danso

0

Dr. Vladimir Antwi-Danso

Dr Vladimir Antwi-Danso, the Dean and Director of Academic Affairs at the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College, says the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is far from achieving the objectives for which it was established.

He said 50 years after its creation, ECOWAS remained distant from the goal of building an integrated economic community that promoted trade among member states.

“Since 1975, we are nowhere near wanting to create an economic community where we trade amongst ourselves. Unfortunately, we are still almost at a standstill where integration is concerned,” he said.

Dr Antwi-Danso made the remarks in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Accra on the launch of ECOWAS’ 50th Anniversary celebrations and the challenges confronting the regional bloc.

The ECOWAS 50th anniversary was launched on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, in Accra, with participation from Heads of State and Governments, Ministers, and other dignitaries.

The event featured the unveiling of the ECOWAS Golden Jubilee logo and theme, as well as artistic performances celebrating the bloc’s history and achievements.

Dr Antwi-Danso identified poor leadership, trade barriers, inadequate infrastructure, and limited cooperation among member states as major impediments to the region’s integration efforts.

He noted that intra-ECOWAS trade currently stood between 10 and 14 per cent, compared to 86 percent of trade with external partners – a situation he described as unfavourable to the bloc’s development and integration goals.

“If the West African Power Pool and West African Gas Pipeline Projects were functioning as intended, there would be no power outages in any part of West Africa,” he added.

Dr Antwi-Danso criticised the incomplete status of the trans-ECOWAS highway, which is vital for the movement of goods and services across the region.

“The highway is still not completed, and as a result, one cannot drive from Ghana to Sierra Leone or Senegal,” he said.

He expressed concern over the unawareness of many citizens in member states of ECOWAS’ operations and offices, with the only visible presence often being an ECOWAS desk at ministries such as Foreign Affairs or Finance.

“It’s like the enthusiasm towards ECOWAS is now on the back burner, while each country focuses on its specific problems,” he stated.

Dr Antwi- Danso observed that 12 of the 15 West African countries involved in the ECOWAS project were considered underdeveloped, with only Nigeria, Ghana, and Senegal standing out.

The economic constraints of the majority of member states, he noted, had led them to prioritise national interests over regional cooperation.

Dr Antwi-Danso, therefore, called on ECOWAS to promote regional integration through policy harmonisation, resource pooling, and collective action to address the region’s pressing challenges.

He stressed the need for strong leadership and greater collaboration among member countries to strengthen the bloc’s security, economic development, and infrastructure agenda.

Saying no to gospel-secular collaborations honours God more

Gospel singer, Mavis Asante Gospel singer, Mavis Asante

Gospel singer, Mavis Asante, has made it clear she has no interest in collaborating with secular artistes.

According to her, such collaboration does not align with her divine calling as a minister of the gospel.

In an interview with Graphic Showbiz, the “Victory” singer, expressed strong disapproval of the growing trend where gospel artistes’ team up with secular musicians, describing the outcome of such projects as “noise” that adds no value to the gospel message.

“As gospel musicians, we have a unique calling that shouldn’t be mixed with secular pursuits. Before any collaboration, one must ask ‘What’s the purpose?’ Is it for fame, hype, or to win souls? Because if it’s not clearly rooted in a godly purpose, then it’s fundamentally wrong,” she said.

Drawing a parallel between professions, Mavis Asante noted that every individual has a specific assignment, and mixing roles only creates confusion.

“A lawyer can’t perform surgery, and a surgeon can’t defend anyone in court. In the same way, gospel and secular artistes have different callings and missions,” she explained.

She believes that instead of crossing over to work with secular names, gospel musicians should focus on prayerfully discerning their collaborations and consider the spiritual implications.

“Sometimes, saying no to certain desires like featuring a secular artiste honours God more than any big-name collaboration ever could,” she added.

OSP lists ongoing corruption trials of politically-exposed persons

Kissi Agyebeng is the Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng is the Special Prosecutor

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has released a list of ongoing corruption trials currently being prosecuted in Accra, Kumasi, and Tamale, reaffirming its commitment to actively combating corruption and related offenses across the country.

According to the OSP, significant progress has been made in its fight against corruption, noting that several cases have advanced positively through prosecution in court.

In addition to these legal proceedings, the office highlighted other key accomplishments, including the prevention of corruption by freezing and seizing assets of accused individuals, halting contracts deemed dubious or opaque, and recovering embezzled funds from those under investigation.

Among the list of the ongoing trials, some politically-exposed persons and former government appointees have been implicated.

Charles Bissue, a former Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM) and the 2024 Parliamentary Candidate for Essikado-Ketan, has been charged by the OSP with 15 counts of corruption and abuse of public office.

According to the OSP, Bissue, along with another individual, allegedly facilitated the bypassing of established procedures to enable unqualified companies to acquire mining licenses during his tenure at the IMCIM.

A plea, however, is expected to be taken on Tuesday, May 6, 2025.

Another politically-exposed individual on the OSP’s list is Adjenim Boateng Adjei, the former Chief Executive Officer of the Public Procurement Authority (PPA).

He has been charged with eight counts of corruption and using public office for profit, stemming from allegations that he manipulated procurement processes during his tenure.

According to the OSP, his prosecution is currently ongoing in Accra.

How one qualifies to buy gold from GoldBod

0

On Friday, March 28, 2025, Parliament passed the Ghana Gold Board Bill 2025 into law.

The Ghana Gold Board is tasked with overseeing, monitoring, and managing the buying, selling, and export of gold and other precious minerals.

This law designates GoldBod as the sole exporter of gold from Ghana’s small-scale mining sector, effectively prohibiting licensed traders and bullion dealers from exporting gold directly.

As part of efforts to revitalise the local economy, President John Dramani Mahama initiated the establishment of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), which falls under the Ministry of Finance.

The Chief Executive Officer of GoldBod, Sammy Gyamfi, has stated that, to apply for any license from the Gold Board, an individual must:

– Be Ghanaian.

– Demonstrate a minimum capital investment of at least 50kg of gold, which is equivalent to US$50 million.

– Provide proof through audited financial statements of their company or bank statements.

– Show evidence of bank statements from any investment partners or off takers outside the country who are willing to send funds for gold purchases.

– Additionally, the off taker or partner must transfer funds through GoldBod.

– GoldBod then converts the money into cedis at the interbank rate and purchases gold for customers through a self-financing aggregator, who must be Ghanaian.

– The aggregator uses the cedis to procure gold for GoldBod, earning a commission as a local trader.

– GoldBod then exports the gold to the offtaker who initially provided the funds via the Ghanaian self-financing aggregator.

Meanwhile, GoldBod has reiterated its directive for all foreigners in the gold trading sector to exit the market by April 30, 2025.

All individuals dealing in gold have also been directed to trade exclusively in Ghanaian cedis at the Bank of Ghana Reference Rate.

A breach of these directives shall constitute a punishable offense under the GoldBod Act, 2025 (ACT 1140). This directive was included in a press release issued by GoldBod on April 23, 2025.

Black Star Experience To Boost Ghana’s Economy By $5bn

0

President Mahama and Rex Omar, presidential staffer for the Black Star Experience

Ghana has launched a bold cultural and economic renaissance under the banner of the Black Star Experience (BSE), a multifaceted national brand initiative projected to generate $5 billion for the economy by the end of 2027.

The Black Star Experience, officially unveiled Thursday evening at the Freedom & Justice Monument in Accra, is being championed by President John Dramani Mahama as part of a comprehensive national repositioning to elevate Ghana as the continent’s foremost destination for cultural heritage, creative arts, culinary tourism, and diasporan engagement.

Originally announced in President Mahama’s State of the Nation Address in February, 2025, the Black Star Experience is envisioned as a year-round showcase of Ghana’s creative vitality. The program will deliver a calendar packed with dynamic cultural activations, from street carnivals and theatre shows to culinary expos, concert party competitions, and internationally recognized film and fashion festivals.

Speaking at the launch, President Mahama emphasized that the initiative transcends tourism. “The Black Star Experience is not just a tourism programme—it is an opportunity to tell our story, empower our youth, and invite the world to experience Ghana in all its richness,” he said.

A pivotal component of the plan includes the transformation of the historic Osu Castle and its surrounding area into a modern cultural district. This space is envisioned to host artisan markets, gold and jewellery hubs, interactive museums, and public art installations, creating a pedestrian-friendly, creative zone in the heart of Accra.

In addition to leisure and culture, the BSE targets the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) sector. Ghana will leverage its geographic location at the centre of the world and its democratic stability to become a prime venue for international conferences and global business forums.

Structured around key thematic pillars: Cinema, Audio, Cuisine, Aesthetics, Style, Literature, and Culture, the initiative blends local heritage with global creative expression. These pillars will guide content creation, merchandise development, and branding, creating a cohesive cultural identity for international audiences.

The BSE includes major programmes such as the Creative Connect Conference, a global thought-leadership event for creatives; the Talent Optimisation Project (TIP), which supports Ghanaian artists touring globally; and the Ghana Experience Guides Initiative, aimed at training thousands of tourism professionals. It also features immersive digital tourism via virtual reality installations at airports and heritage sites, enhancing accessibility for global audiences.

Global outreach will be powered by 360-degree advertising campaigns, strategic partnerships with global media, influencer collaborations, and international activations at events such as AfroNation, Coachella, Paris Fashion Week, and the Cannes Film Festival. Premium retail experiences through BSE-branded shops at international airports will further strengthen Ghana’s cultural exports.

The initiative is also geared toward fostering economic inclusion. By empowering artists, designers, filmmakers, and entrepreneurs, BSE is expected to create thousands of jobs and position Ghana as Africa’s Culture Capital.

The launch event brought together high-level government officials, diplomats, artists, industry stakeholders, and media professionals.

Mahama Rules Out ECG Privatisation

0

President John Dramani Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has categorically ruled out the privatisation of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), assuring workers and the general public that his focus is instead on enhancing efficiency in power distribution through public-private collaboration.

His remark is in response to increasing anxiety over the future of the country’s main power distributor, with many worried that ongoing financial woes and mismanagement could lead to its privatization.

Speaking at this year’s May Day celebration at the Independent Square in Accra yesterday, President Mahama explained that while urgent reforms are needed to prevent a total collapse of the power system, privatisation of ECG is not on the table.

“Let me assure you that it is not my intention to privatise ECG as an institution,” the President stated, noting, “Our attention is more on public-private collaboration to inject efficiency into our downstream electricity distribution system.”

The President highlighted what he described as a troubling deterioration of ECG’s financial health, blaming the past eight years of governance for mismanagement that has left the company heavily indebted.

“The ECG has been brought to its knees by a culture of poor governance over the last eight years, resulting in a debt of GH¢68 billion and rising,” he said and added, “If we do not take proactive measures, our power system will collapse.”

President Mahama emphasised that efficiency in power distribution is key to bringing down the cost of electricity for consumers, noting that unless drastic action is taken, the entire power sector could face serious consequences.

“We can only bring down tariffs if we improve the efficiency of the distribution of power. If we do not do something drastic, our whole power sector will collapse,” he said.

To support his call for public-private partnerships, the President cited his own track record during his previous administration. He referred specifically to the case of Enclave Power, a private company that was granted the right to manage metering and billing within the free zones.

“When I was President, in the free zones, a private company, Enclave Power, was given the right of metering and billing,” he explained, continuing, “ECG provided them with a bulk supply of power. They pay ECG, and until today, they still pay ECG monthly on time. Their billing and collection in the free zones enclave is 99% of revenue collected.”

President Mahama argued that examples like Enclave Power demonstrate how private sector involvement, when properly managed, can help restore efficiency in Ghana’s power distribution chain without surrendering public control of critical infrastructure.

“I am sure that we can make our electricity distribution more effective through public-private partnerships, but I can assure you that electricity as an institution will not be privatised,” he stressed again.

His remarks come at a time when electricity tariffs and service reliability remain top concerns for both consumers and businesses, with ECG facing widespread criticism over billing inefficiencies, power outages, and a growing debt burden.

The speech signals a major policy direction ahead of the 2024 elections, as Mahama positions himself as a pragmatic reformist, advocating structural change without compromising state ownership of strategic national assets.

My Colleagues Insult Me For Attention- Agya Koo

0

Agya Koo

Kumawood actor, Agya Koo, has voiced his disappointment over what he describes as a growing trend of disrespect from some of his peers in the film industry.

In a post on X on April 28, 2025, the actor reacted to recent remarks made by fellow actor Michael Afranie, who alleged that Agya Koo refused to attend the just-ended AshantiFest in Kumasi due to a “guilty conscience” linked to his political affiliations with the previous NPP administration.

Agya Koo dismissed the claim outright, stating that his absence had nothing to do with politics and expressing dismay over how some colleagues have used his name to draw public attention.

“Despite years in politics, I’ve maintained a record of respectful dialogue, never speaking ill of colleagues. Sadly, some have chosen to insult me for attention. Let’s focus on substance over sensationalism,” he wrote.

He stressed that, throughout his career and political involvement, he has made a conscious effort to uphold mutual respect in public discourse. He called on industry players to move away from personal attacks and instead contribute to more meaningful conversations that promote unity and progress.

Agya Koo remains one of the most influential figures in Ghana’s movie industry, particularly in the Kumawood scene, where his name continues to resonate despite his reduced screen presence in recent years.

We need to rebrand; assure Ghanaians that we’ll do better next time – Afenyo-Markin on NPP

0

The Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has called on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to undertake a strategic rebranding effort as it seeks to regain the trust of the Ghanaian electorate ahead of the upcoming general elections.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Friday, 2nd May, Mr Afenyo-Markin acknowledged that the party’s eight-year tenure in government had not been without flaws.

However, he was quick to point out that the administration also recorded significant achievements that must not be overlooked.

“We will have to rebrand and assure Ghanaians that we were in government for eight years, and we made some mistakes and also chalked up some great successes, such as the Free SHS,” he said, stressing the importance of striking a balance between humility and pride in past accomplishments.

The Effutu MP emphasised that reconnecting with the citizenry required honesty, accountability, and a renewed commitment to doing things differently.

“We must let Ghanaians know that we have learnt from our shortcomings and are prepared to govern with even greater diligence and responsiveness,” he added.

Ayine, A-Plus Clash Over Mudslinging

0

Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine and Kwame Asare Obeng

A public feud has erupted between the Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, and Member of Parliament (MP) for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus, over a bribery allegation that has sparked widespread public and media interest.

Speaking at a press conference, Dr. Ayine forcefully denied claims made by A-Plus on social media accusing him of corruption, including allegations that he attempted to bribe the Appointments Committee of Parliament and influenced the distribution of funds from the Sanitation Levy.

“I have never stolen before in my life and have never received a bribe in public office,” the Attorney General stated, adding, “All those who have dealt with me know this for a fact. The President would not have appointed me Attorney General if he had questions about my integrity.”

Dr. Ayine said he was shocked by the accusations, which he described as “palpable falsehoods” and “name-calling with no basis in fact.”

He explained that he had no involvement with the passage of the Sanitation Levy, as he was not a member of the Finance Committee in Parliament, which was responsible for the legislation.

“I have the Hansard and the votes and proceedings of Parliament to prove that I had no role in the matter A-Plus alleged,” he said, displaying documents he claimed support his defence.

“I was never in a position to influence the composition of the committee or channel any money,” he intimated.

Addressing the claim that he accepted campaign contributions, including pickups, from individuals such as a businessman identified as Dr. Sledge, Dr. Ayine said such contributions are a common part of political campaigns and do not amount to corruption.

“If receiving donations or a pickup for your campaign is corruption, then there are 276 thieves in Parliament, including the person making the allegation,” Dr. Ayine said, referring to the independent MP, who is doing business with the Majority Caucus in Parliament.

The Attorney General also condemned what he described as a veiled threat from A-Plus, who allegedly warned him not to take action or risk further exposure.

“That is laughable,” Dr. Ayine responded and continued, “I do not act carelessly. I think through the consequences of my actions, not only for myself but for others. I have nothing to hide.”

He further challenged A-Plus to either present concrete evidence at a press conference or submit it to the Ghana Police Service for formal investigation.

“Let him stop cowardly hiding behind social media. If he has something, let him bring it forward,” Dr. Ayine declared. “In my hometown of Zuarungu, we do not fear mud being thrown at us. We walk into the mud to face the one doing the mudslinging.”

The Attorney General then made a counter-suggestion, urging the media to question A-Plus about what he knows regarding the National Service “ghost name” scandal, hinting at potential misconduct on the part of the MP.

A-Plus Rebuttal

In a swift and fiery rebuttal on social media, A-Plus stood by his accusations and escalated the war of words.

“No! That is not true,” A-Plus wrote. “According to my information, you went to beg for 500,000 cedis that you were going to use to bribe the Appointments Committee of Parliament. You are not the only one.”

He added other unprintable words to his Facebook discourse.

The back-and-forth has sparked a broader conversation about integrity in public office and the increasing use of social media platforms to make serious allegations without formal evidence.

Ghana’s Former Chief Justice Seeks Fairer Removal Process for Top Judges

0

Sophia Akuffo
Sophia Akuffo

Former Chief Justice Sophia Akuffo has urged Ghana to reform its constitutional process for removing a sitting Chief Justice, arguing the current system grants excessive power to the executive branch and undermines judicial independence.

Speaking at a Constitutional Review Committee hearing in Accra on April 30, Akuffo criticized Article 146 of the 1992 Constitution, which allows the president to appoint a five-member committee to investigate misconduct allegations against the Chief Justice.

Under existing rules, the president selects two Supreme Court justices and three non-political appointees to review petitions, with findings finalized behind closed doors and no option for appeal. Akuffo described this framework as inherently flawed, advocating instead for an independent investigative body modeled after Kenya’s Judicial Service Commission. “There must be a provision for appeal, and an independent body rather than a presidentially appointed committee should handle such cases,” she said, according to the Ghana News Agency.

The proposals were presented during a session organized by the Institute of Economic Affairs, which supports the committee’s broader mandate to review Ghana’s constitution. Chaired by constitutional scholar Professor H. Kwasi Prempeh, the panel also heard from former Speaker of Parliament Aaron Mike Oquaye and ex-Council of State member Sam Okudzeto, who suggested reforms on issues including local elections and natural resource governance.

Akuffo’s push reflects longstanding concerns over executive influence in judicial matters. Critics point to the 2017 impeachment of Electoral Commission Chair Charlotte Osei, widely perceived as politically motivated, as evidence of systemic vulnerabilities. Similar debates resurfaced recently amid discussions about Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo’s tenure, highlighting tensions between accountability and judicial autonomy.

Ghana’s constitution, drafted during its transition to multiparty democracy, has faced repeated calls for updates to address governance gaps. The current review process, though slow-moving, offers a chance to recalibrate checks and balances. As African nations grapple with democratic backsliding, Ghana’s efforts to insulate its judiciary from political interference could set a regional precedent, reinforcing the judiciary’s role as a pillar of democracy rather than an extension of executive authority.

AG Charges Adu-Boahene, Wife Over GH¢49.1m ‘Theft’

0

Kwabena Adu-Boahene

The Office of the Attorney General has formally charged the former Executive-Director of National Signals Bureau (NSB), Kwabena Adu-Boahene and his wife, Angela Adjei-Boateng for allegedly stealing a total of GH¢49.1 million from the state.

The two, as well as Mildred Donkor and Advantage Solutions Limited are facing a total of 11 counts of conspiracy to commit crime, stealing, using public office for profit, and money laundering.

The accused persons were hauled before a High Court in Accra in the late hours of Wednesday, April 30, 2025, where they all pleaded not guilty to the charges levelled against them.

Atta Akyea, counsel for the accused persons, unsuccessfully tried to convince the court to adjourn proceedings to today, given the fact that the decision to haul his clients before court was on a very short notice, and they did not even have the charge sheet and the brief facts based on which they were before the court.

The Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has made a strong case for the revocation of the bail granted to Mr. Adu-Boahene by a High Court in Accra in March, arguing that he is a flight risk and capable of interfering with Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO)’s investigations and key witnesses.

He argues that “in the course of investigation, even though he was on bail, our surveillance shows that he was interfering with potential witnesses in this matter.”

His lawyer however, debunks this assertion, indicating that his client is not in any position to thwart all the powers at the disposal of EOCO, let alone influence a witness whom the state could shield with all the resources it has.

The court, presided over by Justice Eugene Nyante Nyadu, has asked counsel on both sides to address him in-camera on the allegations made by the prosecution, and for the Attorney General to provide the court with the said surveillance based on which he is seeking the revocation of Mr. Adu-Boahene’s bail.

Dr. Ayine, speaking at a press conference after the court proceedings, indicated that the diligent investigation done by EOCO gives him high level of confidence that, all things being equal, he will obtain convictions on most, if not all of the charges preferred against the accused persons.

Charges

Mr. Adu-Boahene has been charged with stealing, defrauding by false pretences, wilfully causing financial loss to the state, using public office for profit and money laundering.

His wife, Angela Adjei-Boateng has been charged with conspiracy to steal, collaboration to commit the crime of using public office for profit, conspiracy to commit money laundering and money laundering.

Mildred Donkor and Advantage Solutions Ltd. have been charged with two counts of conspiracy to commit money laundering and money laundering.

Allegations

Court documents indicate that Adu-Boahene somewhere February 2020, under the guise of procuring a cyber defence system for Ghana from ISC Holdings Limited, dishonestly appropriated GH¢27.1 million belonging to the state.

He is also accused of stealing another GH¢21 million in March 2020 under the guise of procuring a cyber defence system for the country, and dishonestly appropriated the money.

His wife, Angela Adjei-Boateng has been accused of collaborating with him to dishonestly abuse his office for private benefit in the sum of about GH¢49.1 million.

Again, the four accused persons have been charged for allegedly conspiring and laundering an amount of GH¢49.1 million belonging to the state.

Cybersecurity System

The accusations against the accused persons stem from Mr. Adu-Boahene allegedly signing a purported contract with ISC Holding Limited, an Israeli company, for the purchase of a cybersecurity system for the country in January 2020.

The cybersecurity system was to cost $7 million, an equivalent of GH¢49.1 million at the prevailing exchange rate in January 2020.

He, however, allegedly channelled the money into a private company owned by him and the wife, which court documents claimed was invested in treasury bills, real estate, the manufacturing of fertiliser and the rental of luxury cars to VIP customers.

My husband is a chronic cheat and I want to divorce him

File photo of a worried woman File photo of a worried woman

Dear GhanaWeb,

I’ve been married for five years and have two children with my husband. When we met, he seemed perfect, loving, open, wealthy, and handsome. Though intimacy was never his strong suit, I stayed faithful because I truly loved him.

A few months before our wedding, I noticed signs that he might be cheating. Still, I ignored them, I was the one he chose to marry, after all. But shortly after the wedding, he would come home smelling of various women’s perfumes. Not just once or twice, but constantly, and each time it was a different scent.

I kept quiet and observed, hoping it was nothing serious. But the signs became too frequent to ignore. Then, just recently, I found a woman’s underwear in his pocket. It was stained, had a strong smell of semen, and clearly hadn’t just “been picked off the floor,” as he claimed. Yes, that was his excuse, he said he found it somewhere and brought it home to throw away. What kind of man brings such an item home if he’s innocent?

This man continues to deny cheating, despite the obvious evidence. He begs me not to leave, but I’m at my breaking point. I’ve cried in silence for years while raising our children, trying to hold the family together. Meanwhile, he’s out chasing other women, risking my health and our family’s peace.

Is this what marriage is supposed to be like? Why can’t some men remain faithful? I’m tired, I feel disrespected, and I no longer trust him. I’m seriously considering divorce, but I’m confused. He’s begging for another chance.

Is it okay to walk away from a man who refuses to change, no matter how many chances he’s been given?

Adutwum post announcing NPP flagbearer interest goes ‘missing’ from his page

Dr Adutwum had earlier shared a post announcing his interest in the NPP flagbearership Dr Adutwum had earlier shared a post announcing his interest in the NPP flagbearership

A Facebook post by former Minister of Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, announcing his intention to contest the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer position for the 2028 general elections, has curiously gone missing from his social media page.

The announcement, initially made on Thursday, May 1, 2025, detailed Dr Adutwum’s bold declaration to vie for the NPP’s leadership ahead of the 2028 polls.

In the now unavailable post, Dr Adutwum touted his achievements and outlined his vision for national transformation, positioning himself as the party’s best chance for electoral victory.

“In the silence of the noise, one man’s record speaks louder than mere campaign chants. One man’s impact echoes across every region. One man’s vision is what Ghana needs for a total Ghanaian transformation. #TheAdutwumFactor,” the ‘missing’ post read.

However, current information available on the link to the post suggests that Dr Adutwum’s post has either been deleted or its audience changed.

“This content isn’t available right now. When this happens, it’s usually because the owner only shared it with a small group of people, changed who can see it, or it’s been deleted,” the link currently reads.

Dr Adutwum, renowned for his technocratic leadership and transformative educational reforms during his tenure as education minister, was expected to shake up the internal dynamics of the NPP with his announced entry into the flagbearer race.

Some political critics viewed his announcement as intensifying competition within the party, as nominations are yet to officially open.

However, shortly after the post gained traction, it mysteriously disappeared from Dr Adutwum’s Facebook page.

Meanwhile, the disappearance of the post has fueled speculations about whether Dr Adutwum’s announcement was premature or if internal party pressures led to its removal.

Dr Adutwum has not yet commented on the post or clarified his stance on the flagbearer race since then.

The NPP, which is currently embarking on an intensive reorganisation campaign, following the defeat suffered in the 2024 general election, has yet to set a timeline for its flagbearer primaries.

However, prominent figures such as former Assin Central Member of Parliament, Kennedy Agyapong; and Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who was the party’s flagbearer in 2024, are also expected to contest the race again.

13 Sad Signs You Love Someone Who Will Never Love You Back The Same Way

It’s painful to realize the person you love can’t give you the love you deserve. Even when you know something isn’t good for you, feeling “not good enough” can make you settle for less than you deserve.

In my practice, I work with women who chase the feeling of being worthy, often placing their sense of worth in someone else’s hands — a move that leaves them vulnerable to feeling “less than.” Ideally, we would make relationship decisions from a place of strong self-worth, attracting partners who meet our needs, but it’s not always that simple.

Everything Mahama is doing, is geared toward establishing a third-term agenda— Afenyo-Markin Alleges

News Hub Creator4h

According to GhanaWeb, the Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has raised concerns over President John Mahama’s decision to nominate seven Court of Appeal judges to the Supreme Court, suggesting it is part of a broader strategy to secure a third term in office.

During a press briefing held at the NPP Headquarters on Thursday, May 1, Afenyo-Markin expressed alarm over what he described as a move that could undermine judicial independence and disrupt the equilibrium among the branches of government.

He contended that the nominations were not part of a standard judicial process but rather a strategic attempt to reshape the Supreme Court with individuals aligned with the President, thereby facilitating his return to power for a third term.

“Everything the NDC is doing, and everything our President is doing, under the advice of the hawks within the NDC, is geared toward establishing a third-term agenda for his leadership,” he said.

Afenyo-Markin further urged the administration to proceed carefully, emphasizing that the decisions taken now will have long-lasting implications.

He warned that if this pattern continues, it could lead to a cycle of political retribution, where future governments prioritize political revenge over addressing national challenges.

Ken, Ntim Withdraw From NPP ‘Thank You Tour’

0

Kennedy Ohene Agyapong and Stephen Ntim

Tensions continue to rise within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, former Member of Parliament for Assin Central and 2024 presidential primaries runner-up, has abruptly withdrawn from the party’s ongoing ‘Thank You’ tour.

Mr. Agyapong announced his decision during the Kumasi leg of the nationwide tour, citing violent disturbances involving his supporters and alleged intimidation by party-affiliated security personnel.

The incident, which led to the injury of a student supporter, occurred after a group from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) reportedly joined the tour to show support for Mr. Agyapong by singing party songs.

A GH¢1,000 donation from a member of his camp to cover their transport costs allegedly triggered violence when the money was forcibly taken from them by individuals believed to be part of the tour’s security detail.

The scuffle that ensued resulted in the stabbing of a student and prompted Mr. Agyapong to file a complaint at the South Suntreso Police Station.

Addressing the media, Mr. Agyapong explained that he agreed to join the tour after receiving a personal invitation from Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s 2024 presidential candidate. However, he said the violent incident and the atmosphere of tension forced him to step away from the tour with immediate effect.

In a related development, Stephen Ntim, the NPP’s National Chairman, has also temporarily withdrawn from the tour. In a statement signed by the party’s Director of Communications, Richard Ahiagbah, the NPP said Mr. Ntim had taken a short break to attend to “pressing matters” but remains committed to rejoining the tour in due course.

The NPP’s ‘Thank You’ tour was launched to reconnect with the party’s base following its defeat in the 2024 general election.

However, the recent developments in Kumasi have cast a shadow over the party’s efforts to promote unity and reconciliation.

President Mahama should pursue a living wage Agenda -GNA CWU

0

Accra, May 02,GNA-The Communication Workers Union Division of the Ghana News Agency has encouraged President John Mahama to pursue a living wage agenda.

The Union said although, petty corruption and immortality anywhere cannot be justified, financial difficulties and hunger push many into the jaws of despondency and corrupt practices.

The Union’s message, under the hand of Mr Samuel Osei-Frempong, Chairman, was in commemoration of May Day.

“A man’s dignity is well attained or realized when the anxieties of life, particularly when he has no idea about where the next meal is coming from, is barely minimized. We can have a living wage if we put our heads together. Many nations have achieved this feat and we can do same. Where there is a will, there is a way.”

The statement asked government to urgently work to reduce food inflation because it “eats away all the meagre resources of Ghanaian workers in Urban areas. Even places like Sunyani and Tamale, which used to be low on food prices, have changed dramatically over the years.”

It suggested to government to open up the Western and Eastern corridors where foodstuffs normally get stuck at the farm gate.

We should be serious about the construction and maintenance of feeder roads because it is one of the pillars of a viable rural economy which feeds into other sectors of the economy.

It also asked government to revitalise cooperatives and get farmers into it so that they would be able to negotiate for fair prices for their produce and by so doing, make farming a profitable venture.

It called on all workers to unite against impunity and unfair labour practices at the workplace which have trumaticed many.

“But don’t let us also forget to work hard as we pursue our legitimate share of the kitty”

It appealed to Unionized Labour leadership to forge a path of unity by avoiding deeds or words, especially partisan politics, that will bring about division and conflict.

“Our pre-occupation is the welfare of workers and the fight against existential threats to our beautiful nation and her people,” the statement said.

Strategic oil and gas partnership, security cooperation are among Ghana’s latest pacts with Algeria

0

An agreement to increase the scholarship quota for Ghanaian students in AI, robotics and engineering; commitment to working on a direct flight from Accra to Algiers; commencement of a strategic oil and gas partnership; consolidation of security cooperation and intelligence sharing and reviving the Joint Economic Cooperation.

These are some of the recent deals signed between Ghana and Algeria, as announced by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.

In addition to these pacts, Ghana and Algeria have also signed a visa waiver agreement.

Mr Ablakwa announced these on his X page on Thursday, May 1.

He indicated that Ghana and Algeria have a shared history and historic bonds of solidarity which cannot be broken.

It is always worth remembering that the first time the Algerian flag and Algerian anthem were outdoored outside Algeria in the early 1960s was in Ghana, he said.

“Yesterday, I honoured a special brotherly invitation from the President and Foreign Minister of Algeria. It has been an exceedingly successful official visit to Algiers.

“We signed a visa waiver agreement; agreed to increase the scholarship quota for Ghanaian students in AI, robotics and engineering; committed to working on a direct flight from Accra to Algiers; commencing a strategic oil and gas partnership; consolidating security cooperation and intelligence sharing and reviving our Joint Economic Cooperation.”

“I convey heartfelt gratitude to President H.E. Abdelmadjid Tebboune and my brother, Foreign Minister H.E. Ahmed Attaf for their exceptionally warm hospitality and genuine friendship,” the Min sister added.

Over 400,000 messages blocked daily – MobileMoney Ltd

0

Mobile Money Limited is stepping up its fight against fraud, blocking over 400,000 scam text messages every day to protect customers, according to the company’s Chief Risk and Compliance Officer, Godwin Tamakloe.

Appearing on Breakfast Daily on Channel One TV on Friday, May 2, Tamakloe revealed that the company has deployed advanced security filters designed to detect and intercept suspicious SMS messages before they reach users.

“…With the text message, it is because we have a system that we have set some rules on that block that SMS that goes to the customers,” he explained, adding, “The attack channels are an SMS, a link, or a call.

“So the system blocks the SMS because of certain words in the SMS. We can block over 400,000 SMS in a day that should have gone to customers for them to now call up and defraud.”

Tamakloe also addressed growing public suspicion that some fraud cases may be linked to insiders within the mobile money service chain. He firmly refuted the claims, assuring customers that service personnel have no access to PINs or other confidential details that could be exploited by scammers.

Responding to the public discourse surrounding mobile money fraud, which has seen many victims take to social media to recount their experiences, Tamakloe urged transparency from affected users.

He called on victims to provide accurate accounts of how they were scammed, noting that honest feedback helps agents trace fraudulent operations and prevents others from falling prey.

With mobile money fraud continuing to evolve in sophistication, Tamakloe’s comments underscore the urgent need for both systemic protection and informed, vigilant customers.

Cedi gains not fueled by dollar injection – BoG Governor

0

Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Johnson Asiama, has dismissed suggestions that the central bank is propping up the cedi by pumping large volumes of dollars into the market.

In an exclusive interview at the IMF/World Bank Spring Meetings in Washington, D.C., Dr. Asiama clarified that the recent stability of the local currency is not due to direct interventions using the country’s foreign reserves.

MOMO vendors to receive safety education amid rising attacks

0

Mobile Money Limited has disclosed the company’s plan to work closely with law enforcement agencies to roll out safety education for mobile money agents, following a disturbing surge in violent attacks against vendors across the country.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on Friday, May 2, the Chief Risk and Compliance Officer of Mobile Money Limited, Godwin Tamakloe, announced that plans are underway to train agents on how to respond during robbery attempts and other security threats.

“Industry under the law enforcement agency have had series of discussion as to how best we can leverage on the work of our law enforcement to support and give some protective tips on what one can do in case you are being attacked here and there, because those protective works sit within the confines of our law enforcement agencies,” Tamakloe stated.

He stressed the importance of educating agents, who often operate in vulnerable locations and face increasing risks in their line of duty. He affirmed the company’s commitment to pursuing it with urgency.

“The agents have played a very key role in the success of this service. They bring the service closer to the customers to satisfy them. It is worrying to see some of the agents being attacked in that way,” he added.

The move comes after several high-profile attacks on mobile money vendors, particularly in the Ashanti Region.

Among the most notable incidents, 33-year-old vendor Augustine Mensah was shot and killed at Manso-Asamang in the Amansie West District on February 27, 2025. Reports revealed that he was attacked after attending to a customer late at night.

Earlier that month, Patricia Nimako was shot at her shop in Krofrom, and on March 10, Gideon Owusu Sarpong, known as Junior, was murdered in his home at Kwadaso during a robbery.

These incidents have triggered growing fear among mobile money operators and renewed calls for better protection.

“We are not only looking at it from the Mobile Money or the MTN perspective, but industry as a whole and how best the police can also support us in protecting these people,” Tamakloe noted.

‘I’m left with GH¢3,850 more to go’ – Sarkodie replies pastor’s GH¢25K expectation for 25-year-olds

Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie has responded satirically to a recent comment by the senior pastor of Pottersville Church International, Bishop Samuel Owusu, who claimed that 25-year-olds should have at least GH¢25,000 in their bank accounts.

In an interview on Onua TV on May 1, 2025, Bishop Owusu blatantly said, “At the age of 25, you should have at least GH¢25,000 in your bank account.”

Reacting to this statement, Sarkodie took to his X page, noting that he is only GH¢3,850 short of meeting the bishop’s benchmark.

With a touch of sarcasm, he acknowledged that while he may be a bit behind schedule considering his age, it’s “better late than never.”

“GH¢3,850 more then, I’m good to go. It’s a bit late but better than nothing, I guess,” he posted.

Meanwhile, the bishop’s comment has since sparked massive debate on social media.

While some users support the idea of cultivating financial responsibility from a young age, others labelled the GH¢25,000 savings expectation as unrealistic, especially given the economic challenges many Ghanaian youth currently face.

Scores of netizens are weighing in on the pressures placed on young people to achieve financial success by a certain age.

We won’t pile on more taxes, transparency is the way – President Mahama

0

President John Dramani Mahama President John Dramani Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has reassured the business community that his administration will not resort to increasing taxes as a solution to Ghana’s financial challenges.

Speaking to business leaders during a post-event reflection on the Kwahu Business Forum, Mahama emphasized the importance of fairness and transparency in taxation to encourage compliance and support economic growth.

“I noticed that when the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) was introduced, everyone applauded, you applauded the GRA.

The GRA is your friend. I can assure you they are your friend, and they will become even more business-friendly,” he said, highlighting the need for a cooperative relationship between the tax authority and the private sector.

Mahama criticized the idea of imposing more taxes, calling it counterproductive. “I believe the solution to our situation is not to pile on more taxes.

The solution is to make taxes more transparent and fair to encourage greater compliance. If you keep adding more taxes, people will inevitably find ways to avoid them,” he explained.

He cited the controversial Electronic Transfer Levy (E-Levy) introduced by the previous government as a cautionary example.

“That was the same argument we made against the previous government’s introduction of the E-Levy. We warned that people would find ways to avoid paying it — and they did.

Instead of addressing the financial challenges as promised, people simply withdrew funds from their digital wallets and reverted to using cash to sidestep the new levy,” Mahama said.

Kurt Okraku reacts to allegations of changing GFA statutes to allow him run for third term

0

Kurt Okraku is the President of the GFA Kurt Okraku is the President of the GFA

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, Kurt Okraku, has denied allegations that he intends to run for a third term by amending the statutes.

According to him, after the Normalisation Committee handed over to them in 2019, they were given the room to make adjustments to their statutes when necessary to ensure fairness and transparency.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) second vice president stated that his administration has identified some problems with the statutes that need to be resolved, hence the review by the committee.

Speaking in an interview with Metro TV, Okraku expressed dismay that people are more concerned about him running for a third term, indicating that the reforms are in the interest of the GFA, not for his personal ambition.

“I think that when we first met prior to the signing of the statutes in 2019, there was an overwhelming agreement that we should accept the statutes in their form and then find the right time to have a relook, since there were a lot of challenging areas within the statutes.

“it’s exactly what we are following. I don’t know why people think about the third term or a third term for somebody. The statutes are not made for any individual; they are made for the federation,” he clarified.

Some stakeholders in the sporting fraternity have urged Okraku to desist from running for a third term, allowing a different person to take over the affairs of Ghana football.

It remains to be seen whether the GFA boss will contest for a third term in office or not.

The Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South, Dr. Kingsley Agyemang, has praised Ghana’s security agencies for their swift and professional response in rescuing a young woman who was recently kidnapped in the constituency.

The victim’s safe return followed a coordinated operation involving the Ghana Police Service, National Security, and other collaborating agencies.

In a public statement, Dr. Agyemang lauded the effort, saying: “Your assurances to me, tireless dedication, and tactical excellence in tracking and rescuing the victim are commendable and truly deserving.”

He also expressed appreciation for the local support group, Proudly Asiakwan, acknowledging their solidarity during the crisis.

While celebrating the successful outcome, the MP urged residents to remain vigilant and proactive in safeguarding their communities. “Let this incident serve as a solemn reminder that threats to our safety can arise when we least expect them,” he cautioned, encouraging parents and guardians to be especially alert.

Dr. Agyemang further reaffirmed his commitment to improving local security infrastructure and deepening collaboration with stakeholders to prevent similar incidents in the future. “We must continue working together to build a safer and more secure community for all,” he emphasized.

The rescued victim is currently safe and receiving appropriate care.

Background

A 39-year-old woman at Asiakwa in the Abuakwa South Municipality of the Eastern Region was allegedly kidnapped by unknown men. The victim, Ama Serwaa Konadu, a popular hairdresser and event decorator in the area, was abducted on Tuesday, April 22, when she left her home to work.

Her abductors, the next day, released several nude videos of her through her phone to family members, assaulting her in the video with a machete.

Her abductors, who claimed to be holding her in Nigeria, demanded a GH₵500,000 ransom before they release her.

The family lodged a formal complaint with the Ghana Police Service and sister security and intelligence agencies, making available to them all the videos to aid their investigations.

CLOGSAG Demands Leadership Review Talks as Unions Reject ECG Partnership

Ghana’s Civil and Local Government Staff Association (CLOGSAG) has called for an urgent National Tripartite Committee meeting to address concerns over recent leadership changes in the public sector, while labor unions reject President John Mahama’s proposed public-private partnership (PPP) for the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

The dual controversies emerged during May Day observances, highlighting tensions between government reform efforts and workforce demands for procedural accountability.

CLOGSAG Executive Secretary Isaac Bampoe Addo accused the Mahama administration of bypassing legal protocols in the removal and transfer of chief directors and CEOs of state-owned enterprises. Citing Section 14 of the Presidential Transition Act (2012), which outlines leadership transitions during presidential changes, Addo argued that recent appointments lacked constitutional grounding. “The permanence and neutrality of public service roles are being undermined,” he stated, urging the Labour Minister to convene stakeholders swiftly.

Meanwhile, President Mahama defended his plan to revitalize ECG through a PPP model, emphasizing it would not equate to privatization. With the utility grappling with a GH¢68 billion debt, he framed the partnership as essential to modernizing operations. “ECG’s collapse would cripple the economy. This collaboration aims to enhance efficiency, not sell national assets,” Mahama told attendees at the May Day event in Accra.

Unions swiftly dismissed the proposal. Public Utilities Workers’ Union (PUWU) General Secretary Timothy Nyame asserted, “PPP is privatization rebranded. ECG’s workforce has the expertise to lead reforms without private interference.” Public Services Workers’ Union (PSWU) leader Bernard Adjei demanded inclusion in negotiations, stressing, “We must scrutinize any partnership to prevent exploitation and protect public ownership.”

The disputes reflect broader challenges in Ghana’s public sector, where leadership instability and contested reforms have eroded trust. CLOGSAG’s push for dialogue underscores fears that arbitrary executive decisions could weaken institutional governance, while union resistance highlights anxieties over job security and state control of critical infrastructure.

Ghana’s public enterprises have long struggled with politicized appointments and financial mismanagement, issues compounded by mounting debts and inefficient revenue models. Mahama’s PPP proposal, though framed as a pragmatic solution, faces skepticism in a climate where past privatization attempts, such as the failed 2019 ECG concession, left lasting scars. Analysts note that balancing reform with stakeholder engagement will be pivotal to averting further discord, particularly as the government seeks to stabilize institutions without imposing new taxes a pledge reiterated by Mahama days earlier.

The outcome of these clashes may shape not only ECG’s future but also set precedents for how Ghana navigates the interplay between public sector accountability and economic modernization. With unions vowing resistance and CLOGSAG demanding transparency, the government’s next steps will test its ability to align policy ambitions with grassroots realities.

Consequential in-camera trial meeting on Kwabena Adu-Boahene expected today

An in-camera consequential trial meeting sanctioned by His Lordship John Eugene Nyadu Nyante, the trial judge in the criminal case involving the former head of the National Signals Bureau, Kwabena Adu-Boahene, is expected to take place at the General jurisdiction division of the Accra High Court today.

Attorney General Dr Dominic Ayine and lead lawyer for the former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau, Ataa Akyea, are expected to join the judge at the meeting.

A consequential trial refers to a trial, or part of a trial, which addresses issues arising after a judgment has been rendered. These issues typically involve the practical steps needed to implement or enforce the original judgment, such as determining costs, permissions to appeal, or other actions related to the main outcome of the case.

The Attorney General, who prayed the court on Wednesday evening to curtail Mr Adu-Boahene’s current court bail because surveillance shows the accused person attempted to interfere with potential witnesses in the criminal trial, is expected to make further disclosures at the meeting.

The trial judge is expected to make a determination on whether or not to remand Mr Adu-Boahene into prison custody or otherwise, based on the strength of the evidence Dr Ayine will disclose at the scheduled in-camera meeting.

Adu-Boahene, his wife, one other, and their company have been slapped with eleven charges, including stealing, money laundering, and woefully causing financial loss to the state.

The accused persons have also been charged with the offences of using public office for profit, conspiracy to steal and conspiracy to commit money laundering. They have all pleaded not guilty to the eleven charges.

Mr Adu-Boahene is alleged to have masterminded the crimes during his tenure as Director General of the National Signals Bureau when he signed a fraudulent cybersecurity contract with ISC Holdings Limited, an Israeli technology firm.

Fitch Solutions maintains 4.2% growth projection for Ghana in 2025

Fitch Solutions has maintained its growth projection that Ghana’s economy will expand by 4.2% in 2025.

This estimate slightly exceeds the International Monetary Fund’s forecast of 4% and the World Bank’s projection of 3.9%.

The UK-based research firm attributes its outlook to historically high gold prices, which are expected to cushion the Ghanaian economy against a global slowdown triggered by rising tariffs.

Higher gold prices are anticipated to strengthen government revenue, enhance foreign exchange earnings, and help sustain currency stability.

The report also highlights that Ghana is relatively less vulnerable to increasing trade restrictions from the United States, given that its primary exports: gold and crude oil, are not directly affected by the tariffs introduced by President Trump’s administration.

Moreover, the US constitutes only about 4% to 5% of Ghana’s total exports.

In contrast, Ghana’s trade relations are more heavily oriented toward China and European countries, particularly Switzerland and the Netherlands.

Our staff can’t access your PIN – Godwin Tamakloe

0

Chief Risk and Compliance Officer of Mobile Money Limited, Godwin Tamakloe, has refuted claims that mobile money service personnel are complicit in the increasing cases of fraud affecting customers across the country.

Speaking on Breakfast Daily on Channel One TV on Friday, May 2, Tamakloe dismissed suspicions that mobile money agents or staff have access to customer PINS and work hand-in-hand with fraudsters to defraud users.

“Our staff do not have access to your pins. The PIN is system-generated. It is not that somebody sits there and says that I want to reset my PIN and they key in the figures, and then it comes to you. It is a button, so when you click on that button, the system sends an SMS to you, and the PIN is in the message,” he explained.

The officer emphasised that the system is built to protect customer data, and users have full control over their PINS, and such a structure makes it impossible for the service person to have access to the secret PIN.

“We even go ahead to tell you that you can change the PIN to any number that you want, so when the system gives you the number, you can change it to the number that you want,” he added.

His clarification comes amid growing concerns from the public over the safety of mobile money wallets, following a surge in fraud reports.

On April 16, a viral video of a woman crying and claiming to have lost over GHS 11,000 to scammers gained massive traction on social media. The woman insisted she had never shared her PIN with anyone, raising fears that internal workers might be leaking customer information.

In response, MTN Ghana also issued a statement, strongly denying that money can be withdrawn from MoMo wallets without the customer compromising their information.

The telecom giant reiterated that its systems remain secure, and no funds can be accessed unless the customer voluntarily or unknowingly provides their credentials to fraudsters.

GATE backs aggrieved teachers over 9-month salary arrears

0

The Global Association of Transformational Teachers (GATE), a supporting teacher union, has expressed concern over the inconsistent communication between the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service over nine months of unpaid salaries to some aggrieved newly posted teachers.

This follows rising agitations and a consequent picketing exercise at the Ghana Education Service Headquarters on Wednesday, April 30.

GES, in collaboration with the leadership of the aggrieved teachers, has constituted a committee to resolve the matter.

Speaking to Citi News on May 1, 2025, the General Secretary of the Global Association of Transformational Teachers (GATE), John Arthur, expressed their support for the aggrieved teachers

“We are a union behind them since they are also our members and colleagues. But the information we had when we got here seems to be a little confusing. When we got here, the group told us that they had an engagement with GES yesterday, and they were told that their documents were here.

“But today, GES is saying the documents have been submitted to the controller, and they are working on them; that is for those who have their staff ID. For those who are yet to get their ID, we are told they are seeking financial clearance for them.

“So, we are calling on all the stakeholders, especially the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance, to act within the shortest possible time, he stated.
