Akpabio Removes Natasha As Diaspora Committee Chair

The Nigerian Senate has removed lawmaker representing Kogi Central, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, from the role of chairman of senate committee on diaspora.

INFORMATION NIGERIA reports that Senate President Godswill Akpabio made the announcement during plenary on Thursday.

Akpabio named Aniekan Bassey, who represents Akwa Ibom north-east, as the new Chairman of the Diaspora and Non Governmental Organizations Committee.

The Senate President also hinted at a broader reshuffling of committee positions, saying a review of vice chairmanships would be undertaken in the coming week to ensure a more equitable distribution.

He said: “The new chairman is Distinguished Senator Aniekan Bassey, and it will take effect from today.

“We will make some changes to our vice chairmanship positions next week. Some of the senators have two vice chairmanship positions.

“Every senator should either be a chairman or a vice chairman so we balance the situation.”

Senator Natasha was suspended in March, 2025 over alleged gross misconduct following an altercation with Akpabio, with seating arrangements issue.

The female lawmaker, during an interview with Arise TV, accused Senate President of sexual harassment, saying that she was removed from her seating position over her refusal to grant Akpabio’s sexual advancement.
