A fatal road crash along the Zaria–Kano highway on Sunday, July 6, 2025, claimed the lives of 21 people, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Kano Sector Command.
The accident occurred at about 8:23 a.m. at Kasuwar Dogo, Dakatsalle, involving a DAF Trailer (GWL 422 ZE) and a Toyota Hummer Bus (KMC 171 YM).
In a statement signed by CRC Abdullahi Labaran, Sector Public Education Officer, it was confirmed that the crash was caused by a route violation by the bus driver, leading to a head-on collision followed by a fire outbreak that engulfed both vehicles.

Out of the 24 persons involved, 21 lost their lives, while three sustained varying degrees of injuries.

Corps Commander MB Bature said, “Preliminary findings revealed that the driver of the bus was driving against traffic, which directly led to the crash. This is a tragic reminder of the dangers of reckless driving.”
He added, “The burnt bodies have been deposited at Nassarawa Hospital Mortuary, while the injured are receiving treatment at Garun Malam General Hospital.”
FRSC officials, in collaboration with the Nigeria Police and fire services, worked swiftly to extinguish the flames and clear the wreckage.
“Thanks to the quick intervention of our Rs1.2 Kano Tow Truck team and police support, the obstruction was cleared, and traffic has returned to normal,” Labaran noted.
Commander Bature extended condolences to the families of the deceased and urged all road users to adhere to safety regulations.
“We strongly advise the public to avoid dangerous overtaking, obey traffic rules, and limit night travels to prevent avoidable tragedies,” he stressed.
