Delta CP Vows To Sack Police Officers Who Use Law Against Indecent Dressing To Extort, Harass Residents

Commissioner of Police in Delta State, Olufemi Abaniwonda, has vowed to dismiss any officer caight using the enforcement of the state’s Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Law on indecent dressing as avenue to extort or harass residents.

His warning comes shortly after the command announced that indecent dressing is now punishable under Section 29 of the Delta State VAPP Law, with offenders liable to a ₦50,000 fine or community service upon conviction.

The commissioner’s position was made public on Wednesday in a post shared by the Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, on X (formerly Twitter).

According to the post, “The CP Delta State CP Olufemi Abaniwonda has warned that any Policeman in the command who think enforcement of the Delta State VAPP law on indecent dressing is an avenue to extort and harrass residents will be shown the way out of the Job.”

Edafe also urged members of the public to report any case of misconduct through WhatsApp on 090111112311.
