The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Akwa Ibom State has arrested 312 suspects and seized a total of 803.672 kilograms of drugs between June 2024 and May 2025.
The state commander, Mrs. Obot Bassey, revealed this on Tuesday during a press briefing in Uyo to mark the 2025 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
Bassey disclosed that out of the total suspects, 261 were men and 51 were women. Within the same period, the command also secured the conviction of 38 drug offenders and rehabilitated 43 male drug dependents.

Additionally, 179 individuals received counseling while the agency extended preventive education to 91 locations across the state.

She emphasized the year’s campaign theme, “The Evidence Is Clear: Invest In Prevention, #Break the Circle” and noted that the NDLEA’s current strategy is data-driven. “From June 2024 to May 2025, we have arrested 312 suspects, made up of 261 males and 51 females, and we have seized a quantity of drugs, 803.672 kg,” she stated.
Highlighting the need for collective action, Bassey said: “Drug abuse is not just a criminal issue but a public health issue. Prevention is a shared responsibility.”
She appealed to parents, teachers, religious leaders, and community stakeholders to actively support efforts to curb drug use.
Bassey praised the Akwa Ibom State Government for its cooperation but appealed for more support, particularly logistics vehicles to help the agency cover all 31 local government areas.
She also thanked sister security agencies for their ongoing collaboration in the fight against drugs.
