As Governor, I Didn’t Have Anything Called Private School Because No Nigerian Child Is Private- Peter Gregory Obi

Labour Party presidential flag bearer, Peter Gregory Obi has come out to lament the decline in quality, affordable education for every child across the country within the last 8 years.

A report by The PUNCH, Obi, on Saturday, July 15, was delivering a keynote address at the graduation ceremony of Pacesetters Academy in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), when he boasted that during his 8-year tenure as governor, every child in Anambra had access to quality education because there was no such thing as private schools in tbe state.

Going further, the Labour Party flag bearer insisted that the Nigerian government cannot continue to talk about development when education is poorly funded and over 20 million children are out of school. He went on to reveal that if he had his way in Nigeria, teachers would be the most celebrated and highly paid people in the country.

He said; “We can’t have 20 million out-of-school children and start to talk about development tomorrow. That is why we need to invest in education. During our campaigns, we said we will invest in public and private schools. We talked about having a budget for each child in a way that the budget for each child will be paid to their respective schools, whether private or public.

As the governor of Anambra State, I didn’t have anything called private school because there is no private child in Nigeria. I equipped schools with computers and other facilities. If I have my way, education will have the highest budget and teachers will be celebrated. They are the ones moulding the children.”
