UTME: House of Representatives Urges JAMB to Lift 3-Year Sanction on Mmesoma and Halt Further Action

The House of Representatives on Wednesday asked the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to lift the three-year ban on Ejikeme Mmesoma, a candidate for the 2023 Northern Tartary Matriculation Examination (UTME), for allegedly rigging her results The House of Representatives also requested that the ban be lifted.

According to Punch, The House of Representatives also decided to establish a special committee, chaired by Rep. Sada Soli, to investigate the allegations of result manipulation and tampering.

The House also resolved to investigate JAMB’s facilities to ensure that such a situation does not occur in the future.

The committee also plans to investigate problems at special testing centers in the country.

As a result, the House asked JAMB to suspend any further action on the matter pending the conclusion and outcome of the investigation.

The resolution was submitted by Congressman Awaji-Inombek D. Aviante in a plenary session titled “Joint Admission And Matriculation Board (JAMB) Rigging of the Unified Tartary Matriculation Examination (UTME). Request for Investigation of Allegations”.

Mr. Abiante, who presented the motion, called for the investigation, noting that the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is primarily responsible for managing the overall conduct of admission examinations for admission to Nigerian universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.

He said: “Secondary school leavers and others who have passed WAEC, NECO, and other qualifying examinations are required to sit for the UTME (Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination) through the JAMB (Joint Admission and Matriculation Board) annually for admission to universities.
