Mr Issa Aremu, the Director General, Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies (MINILS), Ilorin, has said the record of President-elect Bola Tinubu as two-term governor of Lagos State, and campaign programme of All Progressives Congress, APC positioned him “as the possible best labour-friendly President” in waiting.
Aremu spoke on Tuesday in Ilorin while declaring open a two-day induction of industrial relations training programme for the newly elected executive members of the newly formed Congress of Nigerian University Academics (CONUA)
“The inauguration of the new administration of President-elect, Sen. Bola Tinubu, offered a new opportunity for unions, governments and employers to rethink and deepen Nigeria/ILO Decent work agenda,” he said.
Aremu said Tinubu value labour as a critical success partner in his commendable renewed hope agenda through mass youth employment programmes and end to avoidable strikes in universities through social dialogue.
While backing up his assertion with facts, Aremu explained that Tinubu was the first presidential candidate to engage both NLC and TUC members on critical market issues with promises of social dialogue as means for resolving inevitable disputes in the world of work.
Biden joins 2024 election race, may face Trump again

United States President Joe Biden has officially announced his campaign for re-election in 2024 on the Democratic platform.
He automatically becomes the frontrunner in a race that could feature his predecessor and Republican opponent, Donald Trump.
The American leader’s declaration on Tuesday came on the fourth anniversary of his first successful presidential bid on April 25, 2019.80-year-old Biden still enjoys majority support of Democrats who are keen to retain power, according to a recent poll.
But the President’s ratings are currently low amid concerns over health and age. He is currently the oldest person to hold the office.
In January, Trump publicly declared his presidential bid for 2024 in New Hampshire and South Carolina, the first campaign appearances.
“Together we will complete the unfinished business of making America great again,” he told a gathering in Columbia where he introduced his leadership team.

Gov Adeleke visits Osun House, vows to reclaim state properties

Osun Governor, Ademola Adeleke has vowed that his administration will reclaim the state property located in Ikoyi, Lagos State.
Governor Adeleke gave the assurance on Monday during an on-the-spot assessment of the Osun House located at No 18, Femi Okunnu Road, former Cooper Road, Ikoyi, Lagos State.
Adeleke who recalled that the gigantic 18 suit apartment was purchased by the first executive governor of the state, the late Isiaka Adeleke for the purpose of serving as a liaison office decried the lackadaisical attitude of the management towards the proper maintenance of the property.
While noting that the building has no functional generating set, running pipe born water and other utilities, he promised to set up a committee to look into it and carry out a proper investigation with a view to resuscitating the dilapidated property.
“This property was purchased by my late brother, the first Executive Governor of Osun State as a liaison office. When I became the Governor, I made it a point of duty to have an on-the-spot assessment of all the state property located in different places. I visited the one in Abuja and work is ongoing on it.
Gunmen abduct Bayelsa NPC commissioner, demand N500m.

Some gunmen have kidnapped the Federal Commissioner representing Bayelsa State at the National Population Commission, Mrs Gloria Izonfuo.
She was said to have been abducted on Sunday evening around the Ogbakiri junction along the East-West Road in the Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Izonfuo was reportedly travelling to Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital, from a trip to Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State when the hoodlums struck at about 6:30pm.
It was learnt that the kidnappers intercepted the NPC federal commissioner’s vehicle and whisked her away with her driver and maid at gunpoint.
Our corresponeent learnt that the bandits had demanded N500m ransom for the release of the abductees.
The spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident.
She said the Commissioner of Police had ordered the command’s tactical teams to swing into action with a view to rescuing the victims.
