Allies of President William Ruto recently organized a big fundraiser (harambee) in Bungoma County to support women’s empowerment.
The event was held in Kimilili town and brought together many leaders from the region. Their main goal was to help women’s groups by raising money to support their businesses and activities.
The leaders were able to raise a total of Ksh.6 million during the event. Out of this, President Ruto donated Ksh.3 million to support the cause.
His contribution was delivered by his close allies who attended the event on his behalf. Other government officials, Members of Parliament, and well-wishers also gave their support to make the fundraiser a success.
Speaking at the event, the leaders said that women play an important role in building the economy and that supporting them means supporting families and the whole country.
They encouraged women to use the funds wisely to grow their businesses, save in groups (chamas), and improve their lives.
Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa, who hosted the event, thanked the President for his support. He said that the money raised would be given to different women’s groups in the area to help them start or expand their income-generating projects.
Barasa also said this is part of the Kenya Kwanza government’s promise to uplift women and promote self-reliance.
Other leaders present praised the government’s efforts to include women in development programs.
They asked women to stay united and continue forming strong groups that can receive support from both the government and other partners.
Women who attended the harambee were happy and promised to make good use of the funds.
They said the support will help them start small businesses, pay school fees for their children, and improve their standards of living.
