Police officers in Kakamega county have launched an investigation following the brutal murder of two people whose bodies were found near a police station in Lurambi.
Among those killed was a security guard who was manning a petrol station in the area
According to witnesses, the security guard was attacked by a gang of criminals on the night of Tuesday, May 20, while on duty.

Security situation in Lurambi
The locals also expressed concerns about the deteriorating security situation in the area. They accused security agencies of failure to effectively deliver their mandate of protecting them.
The locals have now threatened to stage protests if the issue of rising insecurity is not addressed.
Led by Evans Shimonyo, the residents said that the security situation had deteriorated significantly and called on security agencies to increase patrols, arrest those found walking at night, and take other effective measures to combat crime.
“As Lurambi residents, we want justice for the deceased. He was killed just near a police station while guarding a petrol station where he was employed,” Shimonyo lamented.
Attacks on the locals in the area, according to residents, have been on the rise, with the police being blamed for failing to take swift action against the culprits.
The latest death comes barely a day after another body was also discovered near a police station in the area.
Locals said the lifeless body was discovered without clothes, and that to date, no arrests have been made.
“On Monday morning, we found a lifeless body of a man without clothes just here, who is believed to be the guard. Since that day, we haven’t heard anything from the police to show that the perpetrators are in cells,” one of the locals told TUKO.co.ke.
The Lurambi locals have now challenged the locals to ensure members of the gang terrorising them are arrested and prosecuted.
Confirming the two incidents, Kakamega sub-county police commander, Vincent Cherutich, said they had launched a thorough investigation into the circumstances that led to the deaths.
Cherutich also urged residents to come forward with information about the incident that could hasten the hunt for the suspects.
The bodies of the two individuals were moved to Kakamega Referral Hospital morgue and are awaiting postmortem to ascertain the cause of their deaths.
Khayega market mobile theft syndicate arrested
Previously, TUKO.co.ke reported that police officers in Kakamega had made a breakthrough in their fight against mobile theft cases within Khayega market.
The officers arrested five individuals who were linked to a criminal gang believed to have been behind the mobile theft in the market.
The arrests followed an operation conducted by the police in the area, which also recovered over 20 mobile phones.
