Orange Democratic Movement party leader Raila Odinga has called for arrest and prosecution of corrupt governors amid a chaotic week start that saw Trans Nzoia governor George Natembeya arrested and charged with conflict of interest and abuse of office.

Speaking at the ICPAK 42nd annual conference today Tuesday 20th May, 2025 Raila called for devolution of the NG – CDF and the Roads Levy Fund but insisted that governors who engage in corrupt activities must not spared but fully brought to book.

Raila called on the accounting community to be on he frontline in reporting corrupt county and national government officials as accountants are the ones who interact with crucial financial documents.

“Accountants are the persons who interact with financial documents. They should be the first to call out corrupt leaders in government,” Raila insisted.

Though no names were mentioned in the entirety of his speech, the speech appeared to be an indirect response to the ongoing investigations into claims of corruption in Trans Nzoia county government. His arrest drew attention across the political divide with his supporters accusing the government of sponsoring the onslaught.

Raila was accompanied by Molo MP Kimani Kuria who questioned why leaders should continue demanding for more fund allocation to county governments when most counties have nothing to show for all the monies they have spent. ” We have no problem advocating for more funds allocation to counties. But if they have nothing to show for the KES 385B allocation why allocate them more money,” questioned Kuria.
