A woman has shared a handwritten letter she wrote to her son in response to his disrespectful behaviour.

In the letter, Heidi Johnson called out her 13-year-old son, Aaron, and asked him to start contributing to household expenses.
“Dear Aaron, since you seem to have forgotten that you are only 13, that I am the parent, and that you refuse to be controlled, I guess you need a lesson in independence,” she wrote.
According to Heidi, her son had lost respect for her as a parent and was treating her more like a roommate.

Aaron claimed he was earning money, so she asked him to pay her back for all the things she had been providing.
“If you would like to use your lamp, light bulbs, or have access to the internet, you will need to pay your share of the costs,” she added.
Mum asks son to contribute KSh 96,855 for bills
The disappointed mother asked her son to pay $430 (KSh 55,753) for rent, $116 (KSh 15,040) for electricity, $21 (KSh 2,722) for internet, and $150 (KSh 19,448) for food.
She further directed him to empty the rubbish bins and vacuum the house on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
“You will need to keep your bathroom clean weekly, prepare your own meals, and clean up after yourself. If you fail to do so, I will charge you a $30 (KSh 3,889) maid fee,” wrote Heidi.
The total bill came to $747 (KSh 96,855), which Aaron surprisingly paid—much to Heidi’s shock. Her true intention was to teach him about the responsibilities that come with adulthood.
According to reports, the teenager had lied to his mother about completing his homework.
When Heidi threatened to restrict his internet access, he responded by saying he was earning money from his YouTube channel.

Netizens laud Heidi Johnson for teaching son responsibility
Social media users largely supported the mum, praising her for teaching financial responsibility and independence at a young age.
Nancy Pineda:
“Good for you, Mummy. You need to show your kids that they must be more responsible in life. I have a 36-year-old living with me, and she pays rent, utilities, and food. I don’t make it easy, but she’s getting her own house now.”
Rosalina Villaverde:
“It was so difficult raising three kids, especially as a single parent—my husband left us when my youngest was just 11. Problems cropped up. Our life as a family was not perfect, but somehow, we managed to get through. Thank God. I’m 66 now. My children are 40, 36, and 32. I must say they’ve become responsible now that they’re raising their own families.”
Sharlene Jumper:
“He’s actually getting off really cheap, because it costs a whole lot more than that to rent a room, eat prepared meals, and have all the other things mums just do that aren’t on the list! Good job, Mum! Hopefully, this will be a lesson learned and not just something he brushes off as ‘unfair.’ That’s how you raise a responsible young man who understands the value of family—and maybe even of a future wife! I applaud you!”
