After some agricultural products’ prices increased by a factor of two at the start of this year, Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi has at last answered.
Kenyans were protesting that the price of eggs had increased dramatically soon after CS Linturi took office.
In response, he described the farmers’ claims that raising chickens would increase their income as a good indicator.
Reliable estimates show that the price of eggs has nearly doubled since May of last year, rising to an average of Sh642 per tray in January.
Even though the government promised lower prices in February, the costs of other products, such as milk and corn, remain high.
The price of the bag of maize flour is Ksh 200 for every 2 kg in the wake of President William Gore’s death. Just today, the new secretary of agriculture, Mithika Linturi, spoke officially as Kenyans complained that even the price of eggs was continuing to rise. Now I don’t blame farmers who were laying hens on their farms. Why I am saying this: Remember that those hens that are laying eggs need good maintenance and enough money to buy medicine.
Now when Mr. Linturi says that, he should know that farmers need a profit because they buy a lot of equipment for keeping those hens.
Please leave your comments below, and if you know the challenges that farmers who are raising hens face, please feel free to comment.
