Dr. Farida Karoney Joins Cape Media in New ‘Growth Strategy Consultant’ Role

Cape Media Limited has appointed former Lands Cabinet Secretary Dr Farida Karoney, PhD, EGH, as Growth  Strategy  Consultant, tasking her with guiding the TV47, Radio47 and TV47 Digital brands through their next phase of expansion.

Under the consultancy, Dr Karoney will advise on policy shifts, digital‑first workflows and new revenue models aimed at strengthening the group’s market position.

The company confirmed the engagement in a statement, noting that her brief includes oversight of policy and strategic changes and the development of additional income streams beyond traditional advertising.

Board chair Prof  Simon Gicharu welcomed the move, saying the consultant’s experience would help “sustain the growth trajectory” the broadcaster has recorded since launching its IP‑based facilities earlier this year.

In her acceptance remarks to staff, Dr  Karoney emphasized brand consolidation and diversification.

Professional background

Before entering government, Dr Karoney served as Chief Operating Officer at Royal Media Services, where she oversaw Citizen TV’s rise to market leadership and coordinated multiple radio and television outlets.

Earlier posts include editorial and management roles at KTN, Nation Media Group and Al Jazeera, giving her broad exposure to local and international news operations.

From 2018  to  2022 she managed Kenya’s Ministry of Lands and Physical Planning, spearheading the Ardhisasa digitisation project that placed tens of thousands of land records online and reduced title‑processing times significantly. The digitisation initiative was frequently cited by the ministry as a key anti-fraud measure and a model for future e‑government projects.

In 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta awarded Dr Karoney the Elder of the Order of the Golden Heart (EGH) for distinguished public service.

Dr Karoney holds a PhD in Business Administration (Strategy) and an MBA in Strategic Management from the University of Nairobi, along with a Post‑graduate Diploma in Mass Communication from the same institution.

Her undergraduate degree is a BSc in Education (Botany and Zoology) from Kenyatta University.

The consultancy will prioritise Cape Media’s integrating its broadcast and digital newsrooms, capitalising on the recently launched fully IP‑based radio‑TV facility to streamline production and distribution.
