Matiang’i Dares Ruto as he Confirms Run for President; Ruto Finds Self in Tight Corner in UK After Tough Question & Why Anti-Ruto Forces Unity May be Mirage for 2027

Good morning,

On Wednesday, Civil society groups filed a petition seeking the impeachment of Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen over his shoot-to-kill remarks.

The petitioners argue that Murkomen is unfit to hold office following his orders as the comments incite violence and encourage unlawful police killings and amount to unacceptable ethical conduct required of a public officer.

The troubled CS has been facing backlash over the directive made in the wake of the 25 June 2025 Gen Z-led protests sparking widespread outrage among lawmakers, human rights groups, and the public.

The petition also seeks compensation for victims of police brutality and reimbursement of legal costs, stating the petition is brought in the public interest.

A section of MPs led by Manyatta MP Gitonga Mukunji also announced plans to table an impeachment motion against Murkomen in Parliament arguing that the CS’s remarks not only endanger lives but also undermine Kenya’s democratic principles.

Murkomen has since clarified that police are well aware of their limits in the use of force.

Do you think Murkomen should be removed from office over the ‘shoot-to-kill’ directive?
