Twist as Activist Hanifa Fires Back at Billionaire Wanjigi Over His Saba Saba State House Remarks

Hanifa, a well-known activist and frontline voice in the anti-government protests, has publicly rejected a call by businessman Jimi Wanjigi urging citizens to “occupy State House” on Saba Saba Day.

Taking to social media, Hanifa dismissed Wanjigi’s post as tone-deaf and opportunistic, accusing the billionaire of trying to hijack a movement built on grassroots sacrifices.

In her scathing response, Hanifa wrote, “A billionaire telling us to occupy statehouse haha. Lead with your family then we will follow.”

She went further to point out the disconnect between political elites and ordinary Kenyans, stating that people have died and struggled for over a year without seeing these figures on the frontlines.

She added, “A billionaire and Gaitho’s master, two people who’ve never been on the streets, will not tell me to occupy statehouse unless they’re on the frontline.”

The activist emphasized that the struggle is about real lives and not a political chess game.

Her statement drew widespread support, with many Kenyans echoing her sentiments in the comments, expressing frustration at politicians attempting to capitalize on a people’s movement for their own gains.

This public rejection highlights growing tension between protest leaders and political figures trying to insert themselves into the civic action space.

Hanifa’s strong stand reinforces the narrative that this fight is about ordinary citizens demanding dignity, justice, and accountability — not a stage for political rebranding.
