Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i received a warm reception today in Sengera, Bomachoge Chache, where he attended a funeral service that drew top political leaders and hundreds of residents.
While addressing mourners, Matiang’i shared that former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka had sent their condolences to the bereaved family.
As soon as Matiang’i mentioned Gachagua’s name, the crowd erupted into loud cheers and applause, showing clear support and excitement.
The reaction was notably stronger compared to when he mentioned Kalonzo, whose name was received respectfully but without as much enthusiasm.
“I want to convey messages of condolences from Hon. Rigathi Gachagua and Hon. Kalonzo Musyoka who could not be here with us today,” Matiang’i said, briefly pausing as the crowd continued to cheer for Gachagua.
Matiang’i thanked the community for standing together to comfort the grieving family and urged leaders to put politics aside during such occasions.

Earlier, the event was marked by drama after UDA MP Alpha Miruka was heckled and forced to cut short his speech when residents refused to listen to him.
The funeral also brought together other leaders including Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka and MP Antony Kibagendi, who addressed mourners peacefully.
Security remained tight but calm as residents followed the proceedings.
Matiang’i is expected to continue holding meetings in the region as speculation grows about his political plans ahead of 2027.
