Homabay Town MP Peter Kaluma, has issued a strong warning to the mother of Kennedy Onyango, a 12-year-old boy who was shot, and killed during the Gen Z protests in Rongai last year.
Kaluma shared his message on his official X account, shortly after the boy’s mother joined other protestors, including former Chief Justice David Maraga, during a commemoration marking one year since the tragic incident.
In his post, Kaluma expressed concern that Kennedy’s mother was being drawn into political games, by people who only wanted to use her pain for their own gain.
He said she would soon understand, what it means to be in the hands of political opportunists.
According to Kaluma, such leaders are not truly interested in justice but in using grieving families, to push political agendas.
The MP wrote that people like Maraga, whom he described as political vultures, would only use her and parade her in protests to stir up emotions, create public anger, and incite violence.
He added that although they appear to stand with the victims, their real goal is to attract donor attention and funding.
Kaluma warned that after all the shouting and marching, Kennedy’s mother might return home with nothing.
He said the politicians will enjoy the donations, and benefits while families like hers remain with their sorrow and pain.
According to Kaluma, these leaders will pretend to fight for justice but will abandon the families, once they have served their purpose.
Kennedy’s death last year shocked the nation, and became a symbol of the brutality witnessed during the Gen Z protests.
His mother’s appearance during the anniversary protest was seen by many as a call for justice, but Kaluma’s comments have brought new debate over whether victims’ families are being respected, or misused.
