Malindi, Kenya — Top officials of the Pamoja African Alliance (PAA) have distanced the party from a controversial impeachment motion against Kilifi County Assembly Speaker Teddy Mwambire, declaring that the party has no hand in the unfolding political drama.
In strategic meeting held in Malindi town, PAA Chairman Ibrahim Khamis, Deputy Party Leader Hassan Abdala Albeit, and Secretary-General Kenneth Kazungu Tungule — who also serves as Ganze MP — met with nine of the party’s elected Members of County Assembly (MCAs) from Kilifi County.
The leadership emphasized that while the party values discipline and coordination, it respects the autonomy of its elected members in handling legislative business within the county assembly.
“Our position as PAA is very clear,” said SG Tungule.
“The party has not sanctioned any impeachment motion against Speaker Mwambire. We respect the independence of our MCAs and the separation between party politics and house operations.”
The statement comes amid heightened political tensions following a notice of motion by Tezo Ward MCA, who was elected on a PAA ticket, seeking the removal of Speaker Mwambire.
The motion has stirred speculation about possible political scheming within PAA ranks — a narrative the party’s leadership is eager to shut down.
Chairman Khamis reinforced the party’s neutral stance, warning against dragging PAA into personal or localized disputes within the assembly.
“The party must remain focused on its development agenda and unity. Internal assembly matters should not be politicized in our name,” he stated.
Deputy Leader Hassan Abdala echoed similar sentiments, urging MCAs to act in the best interest of their constituents and uphold the integrity of public office.
The meeting concluded with a call for calm and due process, as the fate of the impeachment motion now lies in the hands of the assembly.
Whether the motion will gather enough support remains uncertain — but what is clear is that PAA’s leadership wants no part in it.
