In a dramatic turn of events, Members of Parliament have rejected Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen’s explanations regarding the tragic death of engineer Michael Ojwang, who died under mysterious circumstances at a government infrastructure site. The lawmakers have now summoned the CS for further questioning, citing inconsistencies and a lack of clarity in his written response.
Ojwang, a respected engineer working on a major road project, was reportedly found dead at a construction site in unclear circumstances last month. The incident sparked public outrage and demands for accountability, especially from Ojwang’s family and professional peers in the engineering community.
In his initial response to Parliament, CS Murkomen provided a brief report suggesting that Ojwang’s death was accidental and that investigations were ongoing. However, the Transport Committee found the response unsatisfactory, calling it “vague and dismissive.” Several MPs expressed frustration, accusing the Ministry of attempting to downplay a potentially serious safety and accountability issue.
“We are not satisfied with the answers provided,” said one MP. “The family of Mr. Ojwang, and the public, deserve clear, honest, and thorough explanations. This is not a matter to be brushed aside.”
Murkomen is now expected to appear before the committee in person to answer tough questions about the incident, the safety protocols in place at government project sites, and the progress of the ongoing investigation. Lawmakers have also demanded a comprehensive report, including any surveillance footage, witness accounts, and forensic evidence related to the case.
The grilling session, expected to take place next week, is anticipated to shed more light on the circumstances surrounding Ojwang’s death and to determine if any negligence or foul play was involved. The incident continues to draw national attention as questions linger over worker safety and accountability in public infrastructur
e projects.
